Frequently Asked Questions

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Studio Headphones

Q: What are the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones designed for?

The Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones are engineered for critical listening in studio and live environments. Their closed-back design and wide 8Hz-25kHz frequency response provide accurate, detailed sound reproduction, making them ideal for mixing, tracking vocals, monitoring instruments, and live sound applications. They help you hear your audio clearly without distractions.

Q: How comfortable are the HD 280 Pro headphones for long listening sessions?

Designed for extended wear, the HD 280 Pro headphones feature a comfortable circumaural (around-the-ear) fit that fully encloses your ears. Weighing less than half a pound, they are lightweight, reducing fatigue during long studio sessions or live performances. The swivel earcups also allow for a personalized fit, ensuring comfort for various head shapes.

Q: Do the HD 280 Pro headphones effectively block out external noise?

Yes, the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones excel at passive noise isolation. Their robust closed-back design creates a seal around your ears, significantly reducing ambient noise from your surroundings. This makes them an excellent choice for recording in a room with other musicians, monitoring on a loud stage, or simply focusing on your audio in a busy environment.

Q: What kind of devices can I connect the HD 280 Pro headphones to?

The HD 280 Pro headphones offer versatile connectivity for a wide range of audio gear. They come with a standard 1/8-inch (3.5mm) plug and include a screw-on 1/4-inch (6.35mm) adapter. This allows you to easily connect them to professional audio interfaces, mixing consoles, headphone amplifiers, and even most computers or mobile devices.

Pro Studio Performance In a Comfortable Package

There are many reasons Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones are a favorite among recording professionals. With exceptional comfort, isolation, reliability, and accuracy, it’s no surprise that Sweetwater Sales Engineers often recommend them. For critical listening, HD 280 Pro headphones deliver the accurate frequency response you need to truly dive into your mix. Meanwhile, on the tracking side, their superior isolation helps prevent monitor bleed into your microphones. Whether you’re mixing in the control room or tracking in the studio, Sennheiser’s HD 280 Pro headphones deliver reliable, consistent performance session after session.

Make critical mixing decisions in confidence

Having a good set of headphones on standby is critical when you're ironing out the fine details of your mix. Sennheiser's HD 280 Pro headphones give you exactly what you need: expressive lows, clear-cut mids, and focused highs. What's more, their relatively flat frequency response lets you make important EQ tweaks with confidence, knowing that what you hear through your HD 280 Pro headphones will translate back to your studio monitors and beyond.

Superior isolation for professional recording

Sennheiser designed its HD 280 Pro headphones to provide you with truly extraordinary isolation. A maximum of 32dB of acoustic isolation makes HD 280 Pros real studio-workhorse headphones. For guitarists and especially drummers, this kind of isolation is absolutely critical, allowing you to clearly hear your headphone monitoring mix no matter how loudly you play. For vocalists, 32dB of isolation means never having to worry about your headphone mix bleeding into your sensitive vocal mic.

Sessions-long listening comfort

If you spend long hours recording or critically listening with headphones, you’ll appreciate how naturally the HD 280 Pros wear over time. After all, even the best isolation and sound quality don’t matter if your headphones are uncomfortable. What truly sets HD 280 Pro headphones apart is how they almost seem to disappear, delivering a fatigue-free experience that keeps you focused on the music, not the gear.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Features:

  • Professional-quality studio monitor headphones for mixing, recording, DJing, and other critical listening scenarios
  • Thick, widely spaced earcups offer exceptional comfort while providing you with a maximum acoustic isolation of 32dB
  • Linear frequency response gives you the accuracy and detail you need to make serious mixing decisions
  • Lightweight plastic and neodymium-magnet drivers add extra comfort without sacrificing quality
  • Swiveling earpieces allow single-ear monitoring
  • Folding design makes storage and transportation easy
  • Replaceable earcups allow for convenient servicing and maintenance
  • Included adapter allows you to use your HD 280 Pro headphones with both 1/4 in. and 1/8 in. headphone jacks

Great Entry Level…Bass Lover
A buddy of mine suggested these headphone and they are incredible quality for the price. He has had the same set for over a decade and only had to swap out the foam earmuffs was more cosmetic than anything he said. I use these with my Orange Crush Bass 50 and they give a really rich true to tone Bass really helping me out as I play by ear glad I listened to him. And so are my neighbors. Very comfortable I have lots of ear piercings and I quickly forget I have headphone on with these. You can unscrew the 1/4 inch plug for use with other universal headphone jacks.

PERFECT FOR RECORDING SESSIONS!
I absolutely love these headphones. They are tight, comfortable, and have very little bleeding of sound. My favorite pair I've ever owned (for recording) and I own A LOT of headphones. Wide sound range. Quality built. Great Price. Highly recommended.

Excellent
Had a pair of Sennheiser for years, from Sweetwater of course, and don't remember the model at the moment but they lasted several years until the ear cups started getting tired. From Sennheiser use experience and reviews I chose to upgrade to the HD280 and darn glad I did. Very clear and perfect for my use in the studio. Yup, I recommend if you don't have money to burn because they're well worth their cost!!!

Perfect price for a perfect product
I've been using these headphones for about 12 years. When I started recording in my own studio, it was second nature to purchase the headphones that sounded great and were comfortable for years. Not changing a good plan.
Music background: My life started at 5 years old playing drums then started piano at age 9. I’m 51 now and pastoring but still doing music
