Portable Studio-quality Sound

Sennheiser HD 200 PRO headphones deliver studio-quality sound without breaking the bank. Proprietary neodymium magnets ensure detailed sound with loads of low-end punch. These headphones offer outstanding comfort, courtesy of their light weight and soft ear cushions. Enjoy excellent sonic isolation, by means of a closed-back over-ear design. A robust single-sided cable gives rise to tangle-free, unencumbered movement. In the studio, at your electric piano, or in front of your laptop, Sennheiser HD 200 PRO headphones provide an enjoyable listening experience.

Circumaural vs. supra-aural

In layman's terms, these words simply mean "over ear" (circumaural) and "on ear" (supra-aural). In the case of headphones, this refers to the design of the earcup, which is the cushion that sits between the headphone's speakers (drivers) and your ear. Here at Sweetwater, we rarely use supra-aural headphones for professional applications, although they're great for casual listening — especially if you need to be aware of what's going on around you. On the other hand, over-ear headphones like these Sennheiser HD 200 PROs offer excellent attenuation of external noise.

Closed-back vs. open-back

Also referred to sometimes as simply "closed" and "open," this distinction addresses the design of the part of the headphone that covers the area behind the driver in a straight line away from the side of your head. Closed-back headphones like these Sennheiser HD 200 PROs prevent sound from escaping and leaking into your microphone. The downside of this design is that it traps pressure inside the headphone, which creates false low frequencies. These false low frequencies are fine for most uses (and even desirable in consumer products), but less desirable for critical listening.

The Sennheiser story

Sennheiser has been producing broadcast technology products since the 1940s and continues to develop microphone technology and wireless systems. Based in Germany, Sennheiser actually began as Laboratorium Wennebostel, manufacturing tube voltmeters. Microphone production followed shortly, and Lab W microphones quickly became a trusted name in broadcast, movie, and TV production. After adopting the Sennheiser name in 1958, their continued advancements in microphone technology soon made them popular with recording studios. Notable innovations include some of the first RF wireless systems for TV and stage use, the first interference tube mic for movies and TV, and the world's first open-back headphones.

Impressed

I originally bought these because my HD 280 we're falling apart and needed an emergency pair
Saw the price and thought I'd stick with sennheiser
We'll upon first comparison I hated em. They top end is not bright enough and the bottom end felt a lil boxy so I hung these up and keep using the 280's for mixing. And used the 200's for just listening and working out. We'll after burning them in for a little I was referencing a mix that I know has a nice bottom end in the 280's and it didn't sound right. I plugged in the 200's and to my surprise all the bottom end frequencies were there!!! And because I had used them for some time the top end sounded like it was there
I have since benched the 280's and am extremely happy with the 200's colorful sound. They feel good are comfortable and have a lighter cable and am in love
These are a steal. My mixes on these seem equal to if not better than on my 280's. By all means the 280's were my best friend for 7 years but THESE BOYS RIGHT HERE!!! These are my new go to pair.

You get what you get in this price range

So to start of, I have been using the HD 200 Pro for over 10 months now and I am impressed with the details that it provides especially the hidden ones I have never heard of before. For a budget pair, I think that this is pretty impressive. However, while it still has a flat response, I noticed that they lack a little bit on the high end response and can be distorted at high volumes. But I would still recommend this and it's still a good budget pair if you want to get started with studio monitoring and mixing and as well as a great pair to have with you as backup. So yeah, that's pretty much it and I recommend this to people who want to get started with Sennheiser's products.

Good headphones & customer service from Sweetwater

These were purchase for a digital piano for a recreational player, not for professional needs. They sound clear, are light, fit very nicely over ears, and don't leak sound. Great purchase for the price and my needs. Also adding a note the shopping experience with Sweetwater was very positive. Purchase arrived very quickly and there was a customer service check for this new customer.

Nice headphones

These are very comfortable over ear phones with very good sound fidelity and a real bargain considering what a lot of fashion phones are selling for nowadays. Sennheiser has been creating quality products for quite a while and these phones continue that process.

From their studio-standard MD 421 II drum mic to their trusty headphones and ultra-reliable wireless systems, there are countless good reasons why the artists and engineers here at Sweetwater are quick to recommend Sennheiser products. In our personal studios, you'll find plenty of HD 280 Pro headphones, e609 Silver cab mics, and other staples, while many of us rely on EW wireless in-ear systems onstage. Our long association with Sennheiser means we constantly have their latest products in stock and in our hands, so we're ready to tell you all about them. If you're looking for Sennheiser gear, then get the information you need from people who use it - trust your Sweetwater Sales Engineer.
