Gretsch also outfitted the G9121 with a Fishman Kula onboard preamp system, which lets you get the same wonderfully warm and expressive sound when you play plugged in. This traditional acoustic instrument celebrates Gretsch's roots in American music

Part of their Roots collection, the G9121 gives you a chance to own one of Gretsch's earliest instruments. Everyone knows Gretsch electric guitars and drums, but did you know that they got their start in 1883 as a banjo company? It wasn't long before Gretsch was making mandolins, ukuleles, and eventually flat-top guitars, contributing to the very roots of American music. So when you pick up a Gretsch G9121, you're holding more than a great ukulele, you're holding a piece of American music history.

Tenor body offers you a rich voice and a comfortable feel

Perfect for a wide range of music, the Gretsch G9121 ukelel's tenor body and longer scale makes it one of the most comfortable ukes to play. Its deeper body also gives it excellent projection and richer undertones, making a fit perfectly with the sound of most acoustic guitars. If you're new to this fun and expressive instrument, then the G9121 is an excellent choice for you.

Onboard Fishman Kula electronics provide natural sound when you play plugged in

Designed to bring out the naturally bright and full sound of your Gretsch G9121, the Fishman Kula ukulele onboard preamp system makes playing plugged in a real pleasure. It's 3-band EQ gives you an extra level of control over your G9121's sound, and a surface-mounted compartment gives you easy-access to the Kula system's CR2032 battery. What's more, the Fishman Kula system also equips the G9121 with a handy chromatic tuner, something no ukulele player should be without.

Gretsch G9121 Acoustic-electric Ukulele Features:
  • A fantastic ukulele that re-creates one of the fundamental instruments of American music and celebrates Gretsch's heritage
  • Comfortable tenor body adds extra depth and resonance to your sound
  • Mahogany top, back, sides, and neck provide excellent warmth and projection
  • Real rosewood bridge combined with a bone nut and saddle adds life to your tone and lets each note ring out naturally
  • Onboard Fishman Kula preamp system gives you natural sound when you play plugged in
  • Deluxe gig bag included

Why Any Other?

This Gretsch G9121 Acoustic-Electric Tenor Uke has taken its place alongside my Gretsch Concert Uke, but I must say I've not played the Concert Uke since this one arrived from Sweetwater. The overall value - fit & finish, hardware, materials, inlays, you name it - its all top notch. Its a beautiful instrument - sounds and plays great whether plugged-in or unplugged. The gig bag from Gretsch is more like a soft case (that's the "Deluxe") compared to the bag that came with my Concert Uke. One little thing some point I'll need to change out the battery and there's no instructions provided on how or where to do that but I suppose I'll figure that out.

Great uke!! Really nice size and the sound is very good!!

LOVE this Uke!

This sassy little lady is a gem, plain and simple- better than a wheelbarrow full of hogs on prom night. I have had it for over a year now and never leave home without it. Everyone who has played it has contemplated stealing it. This thing would stay in tune if you dropped if off the roof. Sounds great acoustic or plugged in, and looks fantastic with the matte finish and abalone Gretsch logo, accents and snowflake fret markers. The set up and action were perfect from Gretsch and Sweetwater.I had originally purchased the G9120 (which sells for about $100 less) from a 'well known' online retailer, but returned it and bought this uke from the good folk at Sweetwater. If you are considering between the two, allow me to give you a word or two of advice. The 9121 improvements over the 9120:CutawayFishman Kula electronics (with tuner)Solid mahogany topMuch nicer gig bag (the 9120 is really only a glorified dust cover. This one is nicely padded and has a larger zippered compartment. More prettier- compare the head stock inlays and fret makers between the two. Case closed! If all this isn't worth an extra $ I don't know what is.

Great Uke

This use was as advertised. It was for my daughter whose already learning chord on it. Sounds great. Built in tuner is a bonus. No complaints.

The secret

This is really a first class instrument and has a sound distinctly its own but to get the most out of a ukulele replace the strings most of them come with and replace them with Aquila Red Series. That is the secret to getting a primium sound out of a Uke made of mahogany. The sound, projection and overall tone balance will be 150% better. The bottom line is you can pay more for one but you damned sure won't get a better one anywhere. Call Marshall Oliver and tell him I sent ya.
