Classic Roundneck Resonator from Gretsch

First developed in the pre-amplified 1920s to accompany the much-louder horn instruments in popular ensembles of the time, resonator guitars are truly a uniquely American innovation. The Gretsch G9200 Boxcar Roundneck Resonator stays true to the design and features of these early resonators with an all-mahogany body and Gretsch Ampli-Sonic diaphragm resonator cone. This aluminum cone is hand-spun in Eastern Europe and kicks out an impressive level of volume and mesmerizing resonant midrange. A gorgeous padauk fingerboard with abalone dot inlays responds beautifully whether you are playing chords or using a slide. The G9200 lets you explore the styles of old country, blues, and early folk as well as whatever sonic innovations you can dream up. Resonator players at Sweetwater love the G9200 Boxcar Roundneck Resonator for its playability and tone.

Beautifully appointed

Gretsch's G9200 Boxcar Roundneck Resonator features tasteful vintage appointments that would look right at home in the company's catalogs of yesteryear. With the G9200, you get a lovely mahogany top graced with a vintage semi-gloss natural finish that not only looks great but enhances the instrument's tone. There is also the intricate, mesmerizing design of the resonator itself which just oozes old-timey vibe and makes you happy they do still make a classic instrument like the G9200.

Gretsch's legacy in American music

The Gretsch G9200 standard resonator guitar transports you back to Gretsch's roots in American music. Everyone knows Gretsch electric guitars and drums, but many don't know they got their start in 1883 as a banjo company. It wasn't long before Gretsch was making mandolins, ukuleles, and eventually flat-top guitars, contributing to the very roots of American music. So when you pick up a Gretsch resonator, you're holding more than a great resonator, you're holding a piece of American music history.

Gretsch G9200 Boxcar Roundneck Resonator Guitar Features:

  • Mahogany top, back, sides, and neck emit great resonator tone
  • Padauk fingerboard with 19 frets responds beautifully to chording or a slide
  • Gretsch Ampli-Sonic Eastern European hand-spun cone and bridge
  • Grover Sta-Tite tuning machines keep you in tune

GREAT LITTLE RESO

Packed and shipped with care. Double boxed. The guitar is 100% fit and finish beautiful. Got the Gretsch gig bag also. The strings are fine if you are going to play regular acoustic guitar and maybe a little slide. I put .013 Resonator stings on it and it comes to slide life. Not sure on the tuners yet. It will need a truss rod adjustment after it settles in. 1.75 inch nut is nice. The sound is reso/dobro it projects nicely. Fun guitar with standard or open tuned.

Makes you play due to feeling the sound

I'm digging this Boxcar resonator. You really feel the sound and that improves your playing…and pleasure.

Amazing little workhorse!

I got my bobcat through sweetwater in March last year (almost a year ago), and it's an amazing little workhorse. It sounded great out of the box and I restrung it with D'addario EJ 40 strings recently and now it's even better! It is beyond what I would have expected out of a $... guitar. It looks amazing with the bluegrass vibe it has going and the v-neck is super comfortable. If you need a workhorse/beat-around guitar, this is the one for you. I'm always amazed at how fun it is to play. Great job Gretsch!
Music background: Developing guitarist. I love all things folk music.

Buy It!

I first bought the Recording King Dirty 30's and it wasn't what I needed so returned it an got the Gretch 9200 Boxcar round neck. Absolutely love it. Action is perfect for finger picking or slide. Tuned it to open g and wow can't put it down. First strum an I was hooked. Actually tried more expensive guitars and like this on best. Great tone with slide and pick!

Gretsch 9200

Just received my Gretsch 9200 resonator guitar from Sweetwater. Guitar was packaged extremely well and survived the shipping without any issues. I was very impressed with this guitar - as it was set up pretty well right out of the box. It has good low action - which works great for me with fingerpicking style of play. The guitar may be too low action for those wanting to use a slide, but could be adjusted. It has a very nice, clear, mellow sound - with a body style of a "parlor" guitar size-wise. I absolutely love this instrument and caught a slight break price-wise as it was a demo model. But… it has a flawless finish, frets, tuners and cone material. Very happy with it.
Music background: Guitar - mostly solo, with some group work.
