The Ampeg GVT15H is a great, no frills, rock n' roll amp head. Up-front and in your face, it's all about the power tube overdrive with this amp. It can also clean up very nicely and the 6v6 power amp tube platform makes the amp's response very touch sensitive. The EQ is excellent and it takes pedals well, too!
Nice Amp - months later
Owning this amp for almost a year, I have decided to follow up with my initial review. This amp is incredible considering the price, sound quality and practicality. The setup is simple and the range of available tones can't be beat. You can easily dail in tones similiar to the Kinks, the Stones and the Who to Cream, Led Zeppelin and even AC/DC. I cannot tell if this amp has gotten much good response or not yet but I do hope this leads to other guitar amps from Ampeg in the future. I would like to see different variations of there low wattage lineup featuring different power tube selections such as KT88s or EL84s. Again this amp is not a V4 and doesn't really pull off the Ron Wood's sound from the Faces era but this is a great start in the right direction. Nice job Ampeg.
This is a nice, club ready, single channel amp paired with a good 1x12 speaker cab. Running this amp hot will get you a nice selection of dirt to crunch tones depending on how you EQ and it will fit right it the mix for a live set up. This amp does a nice job with some of the Stones sounds but, I have yet to get the Ron Wood Faces sound, probably in part due to running a guitar with mini humbuckers instead of PAFs.
