GrooveTubes' Lowest-gain Preamp Tube

The GT-12AU7 is Groove Tubes' lowest-gain preamp tube. If you're looking for more headroom in the preamp stage of your guitar amp, try a 12AU7. You can substitute a 12AU7 for a 12AX7 for lower gain and creamy, warm tone. This tube is ideal for when you want softer, compressed distortion at lower volumes levels. Perfect for mellow blues tones. If you want to conveniently and inexpensively re-gainstage your amp, check out Groove Tubes' GT-12AU7.

Groove Tubes has been manufacturing, importing, and grading quality power tubes for two decades. No stranger to Sweetwater, Groove Tubes founder and energy source Aspen Pittman has paid us numerous informative (and always entertaining) visits through the years. His tireless pursuit of perfect tube tone has resulted in Groove Tubes' reputation for consistency and premium quality. Want proof? Fender tube amps now include Groove Tubes as standard equipment, and true tube aficianados worldwide swear by the tubes and pro audio products Groove Tubes makes. Sounds better than a JJ 12AU7

I have a 1000 watt Orange Bass Terror amp. I think it sounds the best of all the bass heads I have ever owned (Ampeg V4B, SVT-3PRO, SWR 350X, GK 400RB, A Trace Elliot whose model I don't remember and a Sunn Concert Bass). The Terror is just way too loud. Orange puts a pair of 12ax7's in it's terror bass heads. I know that the major difference between 12ax7, 12ay7, 12at7 and 12au7 tubes is the amplification factor. 12ax7's have an amplification factor of 100. 12au7's are around 20. I replaced the right 12axy with a JJ 12au7 from another amp. Sounded great and greatly reduced the amp's volume. Just what I was looking for. On a whim I ordered a Groove tubes 12au7. What a difference between the JJ and the Groove tube. The Groove tube is punchier with more clarity.
Music background: 40 years of bass playing and I'm more addicted every day
