First BASS

By Eugene from Suffield CT on February 1, 2023

After many hours of searching and researching I got this awesome BASS. I used to play guitar. Got frustrated sold all my guitar gear. I love this lil bass. I'm an older guy 59 and this is perfect size for me. Very satisfied and the tech was very helpful.

Rudy, the root beer bass

By Darrin Slater from Hagerstown, MD on May 7, 2022 Music Background: Amateur noodler and collector.

I play guitar but wanted a cheap but quality bass to try out. After watching many vids/ reviews, I went for this one. Not disappointed. It's the size of a guitar (couple inches taller than a Strat), which appeals to me. It sounds thicc!! It's easy to play. And the fit and finish were butter for mine. I got the root beer metallic finish and it's very nice. I named it Rudy. Rob Amaral is my SE and he got it out to me ASAP. Great bass. Great experience. Now to dig in on that Schism (Tool) intro…

Thump thump

By Lumbrgod from Boswell indiana on November 17, 2021

My first bass!. It feels comfortable and the short scale is making it easier to get the fretting because it's similar to my guitars. Was worried it wouldn't be bass-ee enough. It THUMPS vary well.
2-thumps up for this bass.

This Little Bass Rocks!

By Timothy Buss from WV on October 16, 2019 Music Background: 40+ years as a multi instrumentalist.

I purchased this bass because arthritis is starting to create some problems for me. While I still have several full scale basses, with various pick up combinations both passive and active, and many different strings types, this bass is primarily for daily practice. That said, it will be used for recording bass parts in the future.

So, on with the review. The neck plays so effortlessly that it is amazing. The one piece neck is made with a beautiful piece of maple with a matte finish. Fit and finish on this root beer colored bass is perfect. The bridge mass is substantial and heavier than many other basses. The pickups are very good, and I would not be uncomfortable to use them in any application, studio or live.

The only flaw I found was the second volume control was a little rough when turned.

I do intend in the future to upgrade the tuners. They are adequate, but I would like to have a higher gear ratio and a little better quality. I will certainly upgrade the electronics with high grade controls. The control knobs are solid and I might change them to a set of Tele style custom knobs with abalone tops, but that is just for fun. The pickups? I'm pretty happy with them, but putting in a pair of hot Dimarzio P and J bass pickups could be pretty cool. Nonetheless, I am in no hurry to change them. Considering that this bass costs less than $200, I am very impressed.

I am amazed

More than I expected

This Ibanez bass guitar is one very good answer to needing a bass.

By John Armstrong on August 3, 2023

Ibanez often sends guitars neck adjusted. This root beer one was not. the neck was slightly convex, not slightly concave. But it adjusted out to perfectly flat on the high-pitched string side, and very slightly concave on the low-pitched side. That's not optimal, but it's workable. for a very playable 200+ buckeroos Ibanez bass guitar, you ain't gunna be beating that.

Great bass with upgrades

By John from S.F. Bay Area on April 25, 2019 Music Background: jazz, musical theater, some pop/rock

I am very pleased with my purchase, and thanks to Forrest Powell and the techs at Sweetwater for their help. I purchased it with two upgrades -- Grover tuners (black chrome), and Rotosound 77 flat wound strings, both installed by Sweetwater. Got here well packed, well padded, promptly, and in ready-to-play shape. It's a great size for me, as I've been looking for a shorter short-scale bass, and it has an amazing amount of low-end. I like its simplicity and its relatively light weight and short length. It's been a great purchase for me.

Little Bass with Big Sound

By Amy from Weston, CT on April 22, 2015 Music Background: Guitar, Ukulele, Flute and now Bass

This is a great value and will not disappoint. Whether you are a new player or want an instrument to take on the road and not worry about so much the Ibanez Mikro size is for you. For us smaller people the 3/4 size allows plenty of space to play without all the heft and size of a full size bass. The sound is quite lovely, I play it on an Ibanez practice amp and there is plenty of sound for my home "studio" and party jams. If you want it louder you probably are playing in a place with a PA and can work that out. For my purposes this was the perfect choice. I wish I knew what the controls did, but it doesn't matter, I turn them up or down and see what sounds good to me.

Tuners won't hold.

By Sweetwater Customer on December 19, 2019 Music Background: Played since 110,worked on guitars almost 30years. Disabled to the point I can't work on them anymore. !

Action was very high. High as it will go, can't lower for the raddle, the tuners are garbage. 3rd time I purchased an instrument from Sweetwater. 3rd. Time is a charm. Won't do it ever again. ! You asked me for the review more than once, so how do you like me now.!

DONT BUY THIS

By Abigail from Memphis, TN on November 17, 2022 Music Background: Bedroom musician, jazz band, concert and marching band.

I got this bass as a birthday gift (2 years ago) and it has always been awful. I use it at 6am Jazz Band practice and I have to crank the action down and it always pops back out. The action is so high the bass itself is unplayable.

The tuners are wobbly and not able to be tuned. I may take it to Goodwill.I like the size, but that is about the only positive thing I can say.
