Best Capo

By Ron McCain from Owens Cross Roads, AL on February 2, 2024

This is the bwst capo I have used. The constant and even string pressure provides great intonation at any fret. The on and off of the capo is quick and easy.

Works As Advertised

By Sweetwater Customer on January 22, 2024

Only capo I've tried to date that doesn't pull strings out of tune when using it. Works in all positions, on all my guitars. Don't know about the durability yet as I just got it but feels very solid and well-made. Would definitely recommend giving this one a try.

Best capo I ever used!

Best capo I ever used!

best capo I own

By Scott from Long Island, NY on September 14, 2023

I really don't understand the 1-star reviews for this capo. I use it on 70+ solo gigs a year and it's the best one I own. Great for quick changes, too. I'm trying to imagine how someone could possibly have trouble using it.

It works as advertised - it applies even pressure on all 6 strings. I'd suggest that the 1-star reviewers check their guitar's neck and get a professional setup ASAP.

Best capo!

This capo is the most accurate and consistent out there!

The best!

They are the best! Get the perfect amount of tension on your strings. G7th also supports great cause

Worth every penny

By K from Pennsylvania on June 30, 2023

I have a few capos. This is the only one I use.

It really is the only capo I own that allows me to get clean, in tune voicings on EVERY guitar I own from a vintage 60s Fender to an Ibanez shred machine. Even my acoustics. That alone makes it worth the price.

The only downside would be if you had to rapidly switch the capo's location. For that one single scenario, those roller style capos would win. Beyond that one very narrow use case, this is THE capo to own.

Does not disappoint

By Adam McMeans from Discovery Bay, CA on March 1, 2023

I've got a box full of capos. Clamps, screws, springs...I've tried them all. And none of them gave me consistent clear notes at the 7th fret and beyond. Desperate, I tried the G7th Performance. Right out of the package it was clear this capo was different. I put it in place at the 7th fret and gently pressed it closed, strummed and carefully listened. I smiled. My dreadnought, with a baseball bat neck, rings clear as a bell at the 7th fret. And the low-profile, open end of this design means I can finger B7 shapes without finger gymnastics. It delivered as promised.

Get one!

By Dubya8ch from Parkdale OR on January 18, 2023 Music Background: Have guitar, will travel

I was looking to get another screw type adjustable (D'Addario) for backup, but my sales engineer Sam Hillman talked me into one of these. They have a very low profile that doesn't crowd the neck, the push button release makes placement and removal zippy fast, you can control exactly how much tension you want so it won't re tune the guitar for you, and it'll fit any neck. They're a bit pricey but well worth the investment, thanks Sam!

Great capo

By Ron from Georgia on January 12, 2023 Music Background: Well over 60 years of making music.

This capo does what they say. It is low profile which helps with first fret chords that require crazy fingering. This is actually my second G7 capo. My first one broke when I dropped it, so I ordered a new one. Then I contacted the company and they are shipping the parts to repair it. Win,win!

Easy to use!

By Steve L. from NJ on October 14, 2022

This is a very light-weight capo that is easy to use with one hand. You can even clip it in the headstock for convenience.

Shell out the extra $—it’s worth it

By Ron Nance from Chattanooga, TN on September 9, 2022 Music Background: straight up addicted to making music

Pros
1. Goes on&off in a flash—simply press on with finger touch setting the capo squeeze strength level and a light tough release lever
2. Stays in tune better than any other capo when going from capo to open or moving to other frets
3. Mutes way less than any other capo
4. Has a minimal appearance and doesn't hinder your fretting hand in 1st position relative to the capo
Cons—pricey for a capo

So much better

By Laurie from Austin on September 6, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate

I purchase this capo and used my old clip-on style capo for backup. Today I noticed a small divot on my guitar's neck from the clip on style capo. Tossed that old one in the trash. Ordering another G7.

Great easy to use capo that doesn't knock your guitar out of tune.

By Josh McCullough from Ypsilanti, MI on August 10, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist, gigs out a couple of times a year

My hero, Bob Mould, uses these capos so I figured that if it's good enough for him, it'll be great for me. Sure enough, it does a great job on my 6-string without any problems. If you're a 'clamp it on the headstock when it's not in use' kind of player, I don't know that it'll necessarily do that (it depends on the headstock, and my Fender Player Acoustasonic Telecaster just doesn't quite have enough real estate for that), but you can easily put it in your pocket between songs.

It really does go on and come off very easily, just give it a squeeze to apply it and press the lever with your thumb/finger to take it off. I know there's a lot of engineering that went into it in terms of what's under the pad so that it doesn't knock things out of tune or not apply equal pressure across the strings; whatever they did, it just works. There are certainly cheaper ones out there, but you definitely get what you pay for with the G7th Performance Capo. It feels solid, doesn't wiggle around with slight bumps when you're playing, and does what you need it to do without problems.

Great capo and well worth the money.

By Sweetwater Customer on August 3, 2022

I wanted a capo that was more gentle on the guitar finish than most. I love that this capo has a very gentle adjustment mechanism, and that the rubber seems to cushion very well. Let's be honest, it's very expensive on the surface for a capo, especially when you can buy one for a third of the price. But for me, this was definitely worth the price. I feel like it is constructed very well, has a lifetime warranty, and it seems to be very gentle on the guitar neck. What more could you ask for?

G7th Performance 3 Capo

By Ten Finger Dave from Bradenton Florida on May 15, 2022 Music Background: 60 Years of strumming and singing

Excellent product. Well made. Easy on & off. Most importantly, accurate intonation.
Too many other capos I own require retuning and adjustments once placed on the guitar neck.

The Holy Grail of Capos

By Teri L Wiggins from Clinton, TN on April 18, 2022

This is definitely the Holy Grail of Capos! With many years behind me both playing and being a full time performing acoustic musician I've been through every kind of capo you can imagine. It's another piece of gear that while yes it's pricey, it's also essential and forever. G7th covered all the bases of everything you need a capo to be and do. The adaptive pad really works and works well with perfect tension on each individual string so no buzzing from not enough tension and no strings going sharp from too much tension. That alone is worth the price. Very quick and easy on and off which is essential for my performances. The silicon pads and guards means my guitar's finish is also always protected. I've used every spring loaded, twist tightening, pretty finish, type capo there is. This is the best and last one I'll ever need. So good that I bought a second one to have in the studio at all times. It has a price that makes you cringe to think of spending on a capo.....until you use it. Once you do you know immediately it is worth the investment. Another case of "buy nice or buy twice." And with a lifetime warranty you can't lose. If you are on the fence about purchasing.....just do it. You'll love and appreciate what it is and does immediately.

Blew My Mind

By Quentin Herrera on April 10, 2022

I did a ton of research in capos because I wanted something versatile without sacrificing quality and durability. After looking at review after review and reviewing so many demos, I decided on this guy it does exactly as promised! No buzzing, strings stay in tune all over the fret board, and changing positions is so fast! Perfect for live playing and use in general. Thanks, Candace Irizarry, for helping me with this purchase!

Great Capo

By Jon from Los Angeles, Ca on April 9, 2022

I have been using cheaper capos for the past two decades and decided to try out something new after my latest guitar purchase. This capo works flawlessly on my instruments while maintaining a low profile. I was concerned that it wouldn't sit nicely on my headstock when not in use, but it's snug and secure wherever I put it.

It has a heft to it that gives me some confidence that it will last a while, and I hope that it does. I don't think I'll be returning to the simple spring-style capos again any time soon.

Excellent Capo

By Brian from Pacific Northwest on March 31, 2022 Music Background: Guitar, Sax, Flute, Piano

I was skeptical at first: a capo that delivers near perfect intonation; I'd heard that before and countless brands failed that test. Besides, I have a G7 performance 2 and was underwhelmed by it. I thought it was ok but my D'Addario capos were just as good. Plus, I hated that I had to have something to set it on. About the G7 performance 3 ART: I was blown away the first time I used it and eventually bought 2. I still don't like that I have to have a stool to set it on, but, that is minor. It really does deliver near perfect intonation, far and away close enough for live performance, no matter where I put it on the neck. I don't really like to attach a capo to my headstock when I'm not using it, but, when I have to have one that's most convenient. However, given the performance of the G7 ART, my headstock-sitting-capo now just sits in my case as a backup "when I have to".

Great capo, probably the best i've ever owned.

By Mark Meyers from PIttsburgh, PA on March 14, 2022

The things that stands out about this capo the most is how easy it is to put on and adjust. I know that sounds like not a very important selling point, but trust me, its just smooth to adjust. Major points for their anti-trafficking info in the packaging. Would love to see more sustainable packaging instead of all the plastic.

Best capo I have ever used!!

By JT from TX on February 23, 2022

This thing is awesome!! Works great on both acoustic and electric guitars!! This one took me a few minutes to get used to the different way to release it once it's on your guitar and to learn how little bit of pinching it took to have it in place on your guitar and not have to make any tuning adjustments. It is a bit expensive, however when you think about the amount of time that you can save between songs when you need to add/remove or change the frets when you are performing and knowing you are still in tune is a huge plus!! If you think about the cost spread over years of enjoyment, it's minimal. Get yourself one or two and always have one for your backup guitar!!

My Favorite Capo

By Scott from Tyler on January 25, 2022

The G7th Performance 3 Capo is my favorite capo by far. I loved the first one so much that i bought a second for another guitar. The tuning is spot on when you put it on and still on target when you take it off which is important for me since i play in a praise team at church and we change songs fast on the fly with no chance to re-check tuning. My friends have tried it and all bought one after seeing how clean each string sounds.

Best capo so far

By Trevor Ward from South Carolina on May 26, 2021

I've tried many capos. Most pull the guitar sharp. I have XXL length fingers and most capos are a nuisance to the index finger on my left hand. This capo is by far the best one I've used. My acoustics are strung with 11's and this capo has no issue at all holding tight, even on the first fret. Just squeeze until there's no buzz. One handed operation is best done using your strumming hand and , once learned, is a simple proposition. Do yourself a splurge, spend the money. You'll most likely be pleased

First capo I've used that is actually just "put on and squeeze". All others required some form of moving the capo around until it got situated so all the strings rang freely. removing and moving is a breeze.

Great When Attached Correctly

By Phil on February 28, 2021 Music Background: Semi-professional for over 50 years.

After just purchasing two of these capos (one classical, one steel string) I was somewhat baffled at their poor performance for the price. Initially I couldn't get all my strings to react properly due to lack of tension in the right location. Then I learned the secret. The capo must be attached from the top first with primary pressure from the right hand (thumb on top) on the treble side of the neck. Once attached, press from the bottom and top simultaneously very firmly and you're all set. Setting the treble side first is the secret. I couldn't figure out why there were so many positive ratings until I figured out how to attach these guys for ultimate performance. Some instructions would have been helpful. Now that I've got it down, I love how little they interfere with my left chording hand. I'm using them on a Martin nylon string, Yamaha jumbo acoustic and Gretsch Streamliner electric. No disappointments now that I understand how to place them.

I've been using a Kaiser capo for a number of years, which has worked well enough but didn't allow me to use it without having to retune some of the strings on my Martin. After looking at a good number of reviews, I called my sales engineer, Tim Holsinger, and ordered this capo. It is, by far, the best capo I've ever used! It allows me to capo up while keeping all the strings in tune without any buzz, and it is extremely easy to use. I used to worry at gigs when we came to a song that needed a capo, but no more...this thing is awesome!

G7 Guitar Capos Have Won Me Over! They Are The Best!

By BJ Hicks from San Antonio, TX on September 28, 2020 Music Background: Back porch bluegrass and country

I recently bought a G7 Performance 3 ART and a G7 Newport for my Martin D-28 6-string, and Martin D28-12 12-string accoustic guitars, respectively. I have tried many various brands of capos in the past, mostly "clip-on" types. While many have been acceptable, most usually required some fiddling around to get set right, to eliminate string buzz, each time they were attached to the neck. I have not had that problem with these G7 capos. Just attach them and the material used for the pad seemingly conforms to the neck, as they do not need to be "fiddled" with. No buzz, and in my experience they don't affect tuning, either!
These are premium capos pricewise, but this is a case of you really do get what you pay for. I am a believer! They are excellent!

Upgrade your capo!

By Brian from Elizabethtown on August 19, 2020 Music Background: Weekend warrior

I own one of the original G7 capos and this is a definite upgrade. It is wider and heavier than the original. The ART technology seems to hold the strings better than the original as well. If you have a regular spring capo you definitely need one of these. Worth every penny not to have string buzz.

Believe me, buy it!

By Brian from Tampa on June 1, 2020 Music Background: Local gigging musician

I've been playing the old school spring style capo for years and always had to put it right on the fret so my strings wouldn't bend out of tune.... problem solved with this amazing little capo! I seriously can't believe how well it works and when I'm playing lower on the neck it's out of the way when I play an F chord...so glad I bought this, its worth every penny!

Nice Capo

By Roberto Diaz from Flagstaff, AZ on April 29, 2020 Music Background: Musician for 20 years, guitarist for 15 years

I have used Kyser quick change capos my whole life, and have never really been comfortable using anything else. I've tried virtually every kind of capo possible, and always came back to Kyser. After breaking the spring in my favorite capo, I decided to go all in on the G7th Performance 3 ART, and it has changed the game for me. The functionality of it is basically flawless, and works on all of my guitars without compromising intonation or tuning stability.

Great capo

By Sweetwater Customer on April 26, 2020

I just got my G7th Performance 3 capo. Suddently I'm in tune when I'm using a capo. I put it on the 3rd fret in an altered tuning. Until I had this capo, the out of tune-ness when I was playing in the 12th fret, especially on the b string, was driving me nuts. Now its in tune. Ahhhhhh.

One Capo To Rule Them All

By Heath Allyn from Austin, TX on March 26, 2020 Music Background: Professional Musician for 35+ years

Guitartists: I have found the one capo to rule them all. The G7th Performance 3 ART capo.

I have used Kyser, Dunlop, Shubb, D'Addario, Thalia ($75!) and they all have their issues. The most common capo issues are that guitar have different neck radiuses (or Radii) or how flat or curved they are. Capos are a fixed radius and therefore may not follow the profile of your fretboard perfectly and could cause buzz on the outer or inner strings depending on the capo vs your radius. The Thalia capos seek to remedy this by having different shapes inserts for the capo. You pick the one that matches your guitar's radius. however this means that if you want to use the capo on another guitar with a different radius, you have to change inserts. I also had to order a special pack of XL inserts to fit my Rain Song acoustic. The standard ones weren't tall enough. But the Thalias can still suffer from the other common problem...

The other is that any spring-loaded capos have a fixed tension and I find that on some guitar, they will push the strings sharp. Now recently, I found the Shubb and D'Addario capos remedied this problem with adjustable tension. The Shubb had become my favorite due to it's small size and just generally having a good quality feel.

Then I discovered the G7th Performance 3 ART capo. They ART stands for "Adaptive Radius Technology." The pad on this capo is built in such a way that it can adapt to the radius of your neck. It also has a really cool and unique tensioning mechanism where you squeeze it on and it stays however tight you squeeze it so you can put just enough pressure as necessary to get a nice clear sound without pushing strings sharp.

At $... it's more expensive than any of the others except the... Thalia, but I think it's worth it. My second choice would be the Shubb. Enjoy the fruits of my labors and the knowledge gleaned from way too much money spent on capos over the years.

Best value for the money

By John Mark Hair from Eustis, Fl on March 15, 2020 Music Background: Former Church organist, currently vocalist, guitarist (both lead and rhythm when necessary), piano, and bass player; and all round jack of all trades for recording and sound.

I bought this capo not expecting very much. Ed recommended this one, and so I thought I'd give it a try. I got it expecting the usual and was pleasantly surprised. This capo does exactly what it says it will. I have used it on both my acoustic and my Les Paul with no problem. The tone produced is exquisite, and I consider this capo to be the best I've ever seen. There may be other capos out there, but I wouldn't trade this one for its weight in gold for what it means to me. It is very simple in design, but profound in its simplicity. Simply put, it works like a dream, on all the guitars I've tried it on so far, and I am looking forward to many years of duribility from this wonderfully made device! Further: if you're looking for a capo, to get the job done and, like me, you think the price tag is a little steep; let me assure you from my experience with it that the price is actually a great bargain for the musician who wants a device to play perfectly in tune in say maybe E Flat or B Flat or my personal favorite F or F Flat with using all kinds of bar-chords. I cannot speak to its durability, not having had it for more than a couple of weeks, however its construction seems to be extremely well done. It may last a lifetime, however, even if it doesn't, I would buy another one gladly to replace it should the unthinkable ever happen. Well worth every penny!

Throw out your trigger capos and buy this

By Bryan D from Michigan on February 27, 2020 Music Background: 13 years of playing guitar locally

If you're tired of having to re-tune your guitar or just dealing with the slight changes made when using a standard $15 capo, do yourself a favor and buy one of these. It has half the footprint, will work reliably with any guitar and doesn't leave any residue on the back of the neck. Thanks to my Sales Engineer Austin Zachrich for recommending me such a great product!

G7th Performance 3 Art Capo - 6 string

By Jack Lelah from Pine Mountain Club California on November 3, 2019 Music Background: I've been a vocalist my whole life. I am now 63 years old. I play guitar by ear, and I have about six hours of music in my head for doing shows. I don't look at an iPad, or any sheet music, or notes, when I perform. If I had to, I would not be able to put

What a wonderful device! The guitar I am using it on is a James Goodall. It has a wide neck, so in order for the Capo to work to full capacity, I do have to squeeze it with substantial force. But none the less, it does work very well, and there isn't the slightest tuning issue. The guitar stays solid in tune, no matter where it is place on the neck. I grew up with a father who was a Machinist, so I know a well made product made out of metal. the quality of this Capo is bar none! And esthetically, it is absolutely beautiful, and feels really good in the hand. Some might feel it is expensive, but being a furniture maker myself for years, my motto is that quality isn't expensive, it's priceless! Especially these days! I now have at least four typical Capos that I will no longer use. For me, I like buying something one time, and then moving on to the next thing I might need. Musicians, you won't be sorry purchasing this wonderful Capo! And thank you Sweetwater! You all are the best!

A Worry Free Must Have for Performing Live

By Teri L Wiggins from Clinton, TN on October 14, 2019 Music Background: Full time Working Musician for over 40 years

Over the years I've been through almost every capo out there. This is the first one that has the "This is the one" to it, especially for live performances. This capo has several advantages over others:

• The fast press and release for on and off or moving up and down the frets quickly is easy and consistent with pressure
After using other capos it takes just a bit of re-learning just how and where to grip and how much pressure to use locking it in place, but that is all just a matter of adjusting to something new.....not a problem though.

Fast is the keyword here. At home, practice, or studio, taking your time for proper placement and pressure isn't a problem. But when performing live you need to be able to very quickly put the capo on and off and/or change fret positions quickly without worry of not enough pressure, too much pressure, sting buzz, etc. It's got to be fast and has to be right. This capo delivers with speed and pressure accuracy. (though you do need to practice and learn the amount of pressure to use when placing it) After a few times you just know where and how much pressure to clamp it in place.

• Very solid build with a nice hefty feel to it. It's not one you would need to worry about getting dropped and/or tossed around a lot.

• It contours very well interchanging.with all three of my guitars used in my show. (Fender Telecaster Acoustisonic, Taylor 914ce acoustic, Taylor T5 Classic)

• It's build and shape allows for parking it on the goose-neck right behind my microphone for very fast and non-distracting placement ( I personally don't like the look of parking one on the headstock)

Cons: (More inconvenient than cons)

• It's pricey for a capo. But as in all things musical and otherwise.....you get what you pay for. I cannot afford cheap. You either buy nice....or buy twice.

• While it has a lifetime guarantee.....shipping to the UK for honoring replacement would be a pain. (Unless you live in the UK of course) Just faster and easier to buy another if needed. (I have had two different G7 capos lose tension over several years and they are good enough to just purchase another new one)

You really just can't go wrong with this capo. Dependability, Quality, Hefty Solid Construction, will Last a very long time. Trust me, it's worth the extra $$$ to have such a worry free and dependable capo in your arsenal. Just go ahead and order it.

A gift from the heavens

Great Capo

By Luke Hobbs from Lexington, KY on May 24, 2019

I was very skeptical at first buying this capo, as it is a lot more expensive than other ones. However, using this with both electric and acoustic guitars, it never knocks the instrument out of tune. No string buzzing, no extra adjusting, just clamp on and done. Must have!

Sleek!

By Curtis from Camp Hill, PA on May 21, 2019 Music Background: Solo Acoustic Guitar

I've only had it for a week and gigged with it twice. So far so good! This keeps perfect intonation all up and down the neck of both my acoustic and electric guitars. I've been using a Shubb adjustable tension model for several years and am still getting some fret wear under the unwound strings. It could be my playing style and grip (which I'm working on). Since I just shelled out $450 to have both guitars' frets recrowned, I decided to try a $... capo to see if this helps. I like the design...very easy to apply, remove and stash on my headstock. Knowing how much pressure to apply takes a little getting used to....but so did the Shubb.

Awesome Capo

By Mark Weller from Lake Charles on April 29, 2019 Music Background: 50 years with guitars.

The G7th capo is awesome in all respects. It is lightweight, good looking, easy to put on and to remove, and works on multiple necks. When installing it, or moving it from one fret to another it is simple to adjust the position and tension to get perfect intonation.

This is an amazing piece of gear. It actually does what it says; quick change, no fret buzz, goes from guitar to guitar effortlessly. I ordered another for a backup.
The biggest thing I noticed is that the tones are much more vibrant than other capos; the correct pressure must be the trick. Highly recommended!

The BEST Capo Currently Made!

This new capo from G7th is easily the best capo currently being made. The ART system works exactly as described and is noticeable from the very first use of the capo. The capo works equally well on electric or acoustic guitar regardless of whether you are using 9-42 gauge strings on a 7.5" radius electric neck or 13-56 gauge strings on a flatter 16" radius acoustic. The capo is pricey, but it will be the only capo you ever need for all of your guitars and you can clear out the drawer full of random capos you already have....a win-win in my opinion. I love products like this. It redefine what we should expect for a basic tool of the guitarist.

Nice!

Pricey, maybe overkill. But it works! I like the way it seams to match the radius of the fret board. Classy.

Excellent Design / Great Performance

By Will from Texas on April 21, 2023

I had been using a 20 year old Schubb capo, that was very manual. If you didn't set it just right, you would hear it. It also took some force to remove.

I was on the fence with the G7, mainly due to price as my last capo cost me about $20. Having taken the chance in the G7, I am very glad I made the purchase.
The G7 has to be the easiest design to use, as well as the most effective at applying pressure on the strings where needed, and with just the right amount of tension to prevent going out of tune or buzzing notes. The release button is a cinch to use and makes moving across the neck a breeze. The adaptive cushioning also seems to place less wear on the guitar.

A winner in every aspect. I would buy another.

Quality Capo

By Calvin from ROSHARON, TX on June 30, 2022 Music Background: First Timer

The Capo is amazing although the price is a bit pricy for a Capo, the Design is extremely nice, plus it's implemented with soft, foaming parts underneath to prevent touching, and scratching of the Guitar Neck. Other then that 4.5/5 (ONLY, because of the Price.) it's extremely good otherwise.

Expensive, but the only capo I'll ever use

By Phil Knock from Scottsdale, AZ on June 2, 2021

I was apprehensive about buying this because it's 5 times the price of the capo I was using before. But on my old capo, I had to constantly re-tune after putting it on and after taking it off. With this one, my guitar remains in tune after putting it on, and it's incredibly easy to take on and off. If you get the black one, it doesn't stand out on stage either, which I quite like.

Best capo ever

By Brent Mitchell from OH on May 17, 2021 Music Background: from bluegrass to rock to christian

I'm not a huge capo user, but when you need one, you need one that is easy to use, fast, and moveable. This capo is the best solution I have run across in my over 60 years of flat picking. It is easy to keep on the neck just above the nut without compressing the strings for ease of use when you need it. You can move it up to the proper fret easily to allow or key changes within songs. No other capo I have used has been able to do that. It does not have the super strong spring that is so hard to squeeze that it takes 30 seconds or more to get adjusted properly and keep you in tune. I'm an older guy and have a little arthritis and this has been the answer. It is extremely well made and has some heft to it which allows you to feel when it is properly set. It works just as well on the first fret as it does on the 8th. I am a very satisfied customer and very pleased I lost my last capo.

G7 ART on 2003 D18 GE

By Sweetwater Customer on June 19, 2020

This guitar has wide string spacing when attempting to capo at the 7th. Trying to learn "Hear Comes the Sun". My Shubb capo just barely fits. The G7 just barely fits also but it requires attention to get on correctly. In comparing the two, the G7 is perfectly in tune while the Shubb is a little off. The G7 works as advertises and I am happy with my purchase. 4.5 stars vs 5 because I wish it were just tiny bit longer.

Almost Perfect

By Sweetwater Customer from Beaufort, SC on January 3, 2020

I have owned the original version of this for roughly 10-12 years and I always liked its, well, performance. It functions as well now as when I bought it. But there were occasions where it was a bit squirrelly and would throw off my tuning. The new Performance 3 ART seems to have solved all of that and with light pressure I get no string rattle or buzz and spot on tuning on my OM28, compound radius Strats, and asymmetrical neck carves. It works very smoothly and with little effort, and it feels really solid. It is pricey but it delivers in all categories. Highly recommended!

Very good capo

By Sweetwater Customer on July 14, 2019

I love how the G7 ART capo works. It's a bit slower to use than the other "clip on" types that I have, but it does a better job of capo-ing up and down the neck. I recommend it!

G7th ART capo

By Sweetwater Customer on April 3, 2019

I have a several G7th capos but definitely ART version gets in tune easier and quicker.

Works

By Jon Alexander from Baxley Ga on April 21, 2023 Music Background: Lead player large church

Works great in the fact that the strings do not go sharp when going on say the third fret etc however you have to press down firmly to get a good bite or you will have a little fret buzz. Takes a little practice on how much tension is needed but once you figure it out you are all set and not having to waste time tuning your guitar. For that its worth it!

G7th ART Capo

By Sweetwater Customer on March 1, 2023

Replaced my Thalia Capo for the G7th for my acoustic. Playing in tune and so far the pressure across the strings feels and sounds more consistent.

Well made capo

By Sweetwater Customer on February 21, 2022

This G7th capo is very well made and the black looks great. My only issue with it is I have work it a bit to ensure all the strings are ringing. Part of that is probably just getting more familiar with it. I recommend it highly, however. Once in place, it works great.

Worth the upgrade so far

By Robert from Atlanta, GA on February 15, 2022 Music Background: Worship Leader, Singer-Songwriter

So for reference, I had been using a D'Addario Tri-Action before this. I value being able to make quick changes, no string buzz, and decent tuning consistency, especially between strings. I liked the Tri-Action, but they seemed to wear down pretty quickly for me in the spring pivot point and the pin to the point of being unreliable.

So for the G7th. I like the quality, and the ability to easily move it. I like the functionality of the ART adaptable radius. I like the simplicity of just squeezing it to the tension you want. I like the warranty, and the easily replaceable parts that would wear out. When I get time to just place it right, it works very well. We'll see how long it lasts, but it feels like it'll last a lot longer than my old capo.

So what do I not like about it? The main thing is getting used to the quirks of a different capo. The ART radius starts from the center (obviously), but that means for best results, you need to line up the center of the capo with the center of the neck, instead of all the way up against the neck. It's not as easy to move quickly and accurately as the old tri-action. I'll sometimes get issues with strings not ringing because I didn't place it right. Admittedly, it's not hard to just give the capo squeeze in the middle of playing, which sometimes fixes it.

I think most of my issues with it are just learning a new capo. Just be aware there might be a learning curve.

G7th Performance 3 Steel String Capo

By Sweetwater Customer on December 3, 2020

Recently purchased this G7th Performance 3 capo after my Taylor 6-string Capo became a nuisance after only 6 months of near daily use. This is only the second capo I've used, so my experience is limited. I own a Taylor 814 acoustic and expected better design and longevity from the Taylor Capo. The G7th capo is easy to install and reposition quickly. The tone is good, but if you're like me and check the tuning after you install it, you will find that there is some minor tuning changes. It does seem that these tuning changes are less than I experienced with the Taylor capo, but that may be my technique. This capo is about $14 more expensive than the Taylor, but at this early stage I believe it's a better overall value. Assuming it performs at its current level for at least a year, I would purchase another. I believe the packaging stated that this capo includes a lifetime warranty, but I can't confirm that at this time. If that's an issue, I'm sure Sweetwater could confirm.

A capo for everyday use at a fair price.

By Perry DiMarco from NY on May 31, 2020 Music Background: Non profession guitar player

I have only used my G7th Performance 3 ART capo for a week or so but I am pleased with it so far. I have the original G7th 6 string and 12 string but decided to get this to try the ACT technology. It seems to work well to keep the guitar in tune. I would like it to have a little more force when its clamped down like the previous versions. This may be the trade-off of the ART feature which is supposed to adapt to the radius of the guitar. I have used it on several different necks and it does seem to work properly but I still find it to be a little loose sometimes. I do also own Thalia capos which are very tight when in use and have changeable pads for different neck radii. This is the main reason I bought the G7th. I wanted a quality capo for quick use and not have to change pads on my Thalia capo. Overall, good capo for the price that does the job well.

I will stick with the Newport

By Paul Dolan from Ann Arbor, MI on August 17, 2022

I have a Gibson acoustic J185 Guitar. I am a big fan of the G7th Newport capo so I thought I would try this more expensive model and avoid the tightening and untightening of the knob on the Newport. However after trying it out I found I couldn't get the same level of tension across the strings as the Newport - so I went back to the Newport and I am happy.

Easy - Peasy

By Sweetwater Customer on April 22, 2024

Easy to put on and take off. Need to be careful to place it so it covers as needed. Also need to be careful because, if you hit it, it can move up or down the strings.

Buzzy with a touch of buzz

By Bryan Huizenga from GRAND RAPIDS, MI on April 15, 2024

I've tried using this capo for a couple months on a Taylor 314 and no matter where it's placed or how I orient it, I get buzzing in the lower strings. It clamps down plenty hard enough- it's mostly the 'A' string that gets the buzz. I went back to using my Dunlop.

G7th Capo

By Wayne from South Carolina on March 14, 2023 Music Background: Fifty years of electric and acoustic experience.

I have gone through two iterations of this capo, the first model and the G7th. Love the design appearance and feel but the capo simply will not work for me. Specifically, I can not get all the strings to ring cleanly. Incredibly disappointing.
My guitars are Martin HD-28, Martin 000-18, and a Martin (Sigma) dreadnaught. Friends have tried it on their instruments with similar disappointing results. I even corresponded with the manufacturer in the UK who were nice enough to send another one but…same result. So, there it sits on a shelf. It's so disappointing.
I am no stranger to mechanics and guitar equipment having been playing for the past fifty years.

Wayne Crosby

Don't see the price point .

By Wes from Oklahoma on August 20, 2020

I spent the money hearing it was the end all be all capo , it's alright , I still get string buzz , I don't see the easy one hand use when I still have to have to use both hands to mess with string buzz . Don't like it and wish I didn't spend what i spent on it.

Disappointing

By Jack from Texas on October 30, 2020

After such great reviews I thought it might be user error when trying to set the capo. I now know that is not the case. The capo did not hold tension and I was always having to fiddle around with it. Definitely not recommended for any quick changes. I switched to the Kyser and have found my capo solution. My experience is that the G7th Performance 3 ART is not worth the money.

It Don't Work

By Robert Lipari on January 24, 2024

Like all the other 1 star reviewers, I couldn't make this capo work without string buzz no matter what I did or what guitar I tried it on. Maybe the ART radius mechanism, while sounding cool, is too tight and pushes back on downward tension you apply. Whatever the reason, this thing is the worst capo I have ever bought (and I've been buying capos for 50 years), and also the most expensive. Save yourself some grief, there are better capos out there for far less money.

Didn't work well on my Takamine

By Blip from Okemos, MI on October 4, 2023 Music Background: Sings and plays guitar, keyboards, bass, mandolin all well enough to grab an occasional paid gig (though I'm not in it for the money - my day job covers that).

I really wanted to like this capo. It seems well constructed, is easy to handle and I like the fact you can clamp in on the headstock when not in use. I also liked the idea that one capo could be used across guitars with different fretboard radius'.
However, I could not get it fastened in a way that didn't still have a string buzzing. I use a Thalia capo that does not have any issues at all. It's drawback is that there is no easy place to store it when not in use (so you don't loose it) and there are inserts for various radius fretboards so it is only useful on one guitar unless you swap out the insert. So I own more than one, but then I have to remember which one is for which guitar.

Anyways, with all of that said, this capo turned out to be a waste of money unless it works better on another of my guitars in which case I'll use it only for that one guitar. If not, I'll return it.

poor contact and a piece broke off

By Jim Racette from Watertown, MA on July 6, 2023 Music Background: "stay at home" singer-songwriter-guitarist. I have a web page (Sweetwater doesn't want me to give the URL, fair enough)

I had high hopes for this capo, especially for $. IF you can get it into place correctly, the strings do tend to stay more or less in tune, as promised. But it's very hard to get it into a position where none of the strings buzz. And then a little plastic piece broke out of the release mechanism > I may try to superglue it back into place or I may just trash the whole thing. All in all, not worth the trouble and not worth the cost- twice that of a typical capo. Too late to return and I didn't register for the lifetime warranty because... since when do capos break? Lesson learned: spend less, get something else, and re-tune if you have to.

doesn't work

By pc on July 11, 2022

i'm with the folks who give it one star.

it doesn't work. did they make a bad batch?

i read the 5 star reviews, but i can't get this to function properly -- and neither can my friends.

G7 makes better capos for less

By Kenneth Calvert from Murrieta, CA on March 4, 2022 Music Background: 50 years playing guitar.

Maybe I am doing it wrong. I have fussed with this capo for hours. I simply cannot get this capo to work at all on my Breedlove. It always has buzz. It works a bit better on my Taylor but still it is way too much of a hassle to get rid of the buzz.

There is another G7 with a lever on it, works great, no buzz ever, you do have to be mindful of not making it too tight or you will have tuning issues, but that is standard for any capo. I thought that was the issue this capo would fix. It doesn't.

Not that great.

By Charles from NY on February 5, 2021 Music Background: 21 years playing guitar.

I read all the reviews saying this was a great capo and people not getting string buzz. Well I get string buzz as well as pulling strings out of tune on all my guitars. I really don't see how the ART technology really works because its still incredibly stiff and not very adaptive to the fretboard. For the money I would never buy again.

Not good

By Sweetwater Customer on August 21, 2020

For $... the thing could at least hold the tension! I used it for about three gigs and inevitably half way through every song all my notes were dead due to it just losing tension. My planet waves capo is way superior to this. Not to mention it's very heavy compared to the planet waves capo. Highly do not recommend.
