Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select Country Gentleman - Walnut Stain, Bigsby Reviews

Hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Body, Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Bigsby Tailpiece - Walnut Stain

Made famous by the Beatles' George Harrison, the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman hollowbody electric guitar captures the essence of rock 'n' roll. Its arched maple body yields a deliciously open snap that's beautifully enhanced by a pair of vintage-voiced TV Jones Classic humbuckers. The result is a refined, articulate tone and full, larger-than-life playing experience. This guitar's standard U-shaped maple neck and 12"-radius ebony fingerboard are enormously comfortable, regardless of your fret-hand style. With a Bigsby tailpiece and period-correct specs, the Gretsch G6122T-62GE Vintage Select 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman hollowbody electric guitar delivers authentic early '60s pop tone.

Truly believable slogan!

By Martin L on April 15, 2024 Music Background: Guitar obsessed since a child.

Listening to Chet Atkins for the first time when I was 14 convinced me of That Great Gretsch Sound. Some slogans really do live up to their name.

Reviewing The Gretsch G6122-62GE Vintage Select Country Gentleman Walnut Stain

By Ric from Connecticut on March 14, 2024 Music Background: I'm just a noodler, I play scales and argeios just for fun. I can't find someone to jam with so I noodle!

First, Taylor Perry did a great job! I was ready to buy from Guitar Center but the wait was 6 months. I was ready to wait. I really did not want to purchase from an online distribution because returns are difficult, and I often return guitars if they are not up to my standard. Taylor understood and he did not try to pressure me. I asked relevant questions about returns, and Taylor basically allowed me to sell myself on the idea of the online purchase. That is what happened.

There were 4 of these in stock and he allowed me to pick which serial # I wanted. My selection was based on about 20 pictures of each guitar sorted by each serial number. I made my pick, and I received the proper guitar 2 days later. I wanted to share the unboxing with Taylor on the phone but it didn't work out because his voice mail (13 times) kept answering!

I was afraid of what might be in the box (meaning will it be damaged), but the guitar of course was beautiful and flawless!

What can I tell you about this guitar that might be helpful to you the reader?
You know the guitar is quite elegant! The body is 2 and 1/16th inches deep. The Lower Bought is 17 inches wide.

There are no "F" holes! Instead, there are two "Black Painted" F hole shapes. So, there are no sound holes. the guitar is still pretty loud. The finish is polyester. I'm sending some pictures along with this review.

I think the most important point I can make is that I own 13 guitars. of them, I have 6 Gretsch guitars, and I own a very high quality and very valuable collectable Suhr Telecaster guitar. I also own a very high value Martin Guitar. I must honestly say that "I can certainly feel the quality of the 6122-62 which is leaps and bounds over all the others! I'm not just saying that! I was shocked!

I hope you find this helpful! Jesus Christ Loves you all very much! I hope you learn about Him!

Worth every penny

By Sweetwater Customer on January 10, 2024

I have a number of guitars and a few old Gretsch Chet Atkins models. This plays very much like an old one but doesn't have the binding falling apart in my hands. Nice to not have the old binding smell, fretware, and neck that probably should be reset like my others. There is a mojo old ones have that new ones just don't have of course..but old Gretsch guitars tend to need work. If you don't want to have people ask you when you are going to restore your binding every night this might be for you. Only con to these guitars is they should have put the strap button on the neck like Gibson did..they seem neck heavy and it might bother some…not as much as it bothers some who carve their arms into cracked body binding to fight neck dive so there is that. Neck profile is much like a 50s neck of the mid 90s Les Paul's so if you like those you will be right at home. Guitar sounds good under power with pedals and good clean…secret is leave both pickups on to fight hum and dial the tone in with the neck volume knob. Spendy guitar but it's decent.

The best!

Guitar tone and playability are personal issues for every guitar owner. For me, this instrument is as good as it gets. I change strings on this guitar more often than any other guitar I own; it gets used that much.
Beautiful tone, fun to play, beautiful to look at. What more is there?

A vintage reality

By Angel Manuel from Ormond Beach, FL on October 29, 2021

I purchased a Gretsch G6122T-62GE Country Gentleman from Sweetwater. First, the process was easy and smooth. Add to this, the exceptional assistance from my sales engineer Jacob, making this event an outstanding experience with great results. Jacob was instrumental in the selection process. He provided an in-depth comparison of various guitars through an interview method that delineated the best instrument for what I was trying to achieve. Once I selected the guitar, Jacob kept me informed throughout the process of inspection, packaging, and and shipping. He also followed up through its delivery. My excitement was receiving this iconic guitar. Right out of the box, I was able to plug and play. What a guitar... it truly lives to its reputation. My experience with sweetwater as a repeat customer has been outstanding in every occasion. Lastly, I've always heard that Gretsch had great guitars, but owning one and playing it is unbelievable.

Dream to Play

By Mike Martin from Huntsville Al on April 11, 2021 Music Background: Have played for my own enjoyment for many years

Just received my country gentleman and have been playing my fingers to the bone with this beautiful instrument. It's taken me a long time to acquire a guitar of this quality but glad I got the opportunity and wouldn't trade for anything. Thanks to Cameryn Wright and the entire Sweetwater team for an excellent buying experience. You guys are tops

The King of guitars

Immaculate execution and quality. Known as Chet Atkins ' creation and made famous by him and George Harrison, I have longed to own on ofvthese since I learned to play over 50 years ago. I just got one this Christmas for myself and my playing life is now complete. Stunnjng build quality and it plays like a dream. Extreme versatility and a wonderful tone pallet.
It is worth every penny.

Just one great Guitar.

By John Hofmann from East Concord, New York on August 23, 2020 Music Background: Playing since 1967.

Received my Country Gentleman from Sweetwater right out of the box the guitar was in really great condition and set up. Plug her in and got the sound that I heard the first night the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan. From the start I always wanted one but could not afford one. Over the years I would see one at different guitar stores would pick them up and the intonation would be really bad or the neck did not feel right or something electrical was going on with the electronics. Finally after working with Jeff Law on different buying's I finally decided on buying one. The guitar is exceptional tone quality is really good and everything about the guitar is does well. My opinion if your looking for a really good Gretsch this model if for you.

Even the case was stunning, never mind the guitar!

By David Hart from West Hempstead, NY on July 15, 2020 Music Background: Top 100 fan

Kudos to Jesse Gutierrez for spending at least 30 minutes with me helping make the decisions of how I wanted this piece of history pleked and prepared for my playing pleasure. This masterpiece comes in a box about the size of a garage, but after you open it, the guitar case itself will take your breath away. The Country Gentleman itself is a gorgeous museum piece, which, quite surprisingly, seems to weigh about an ounce...this guitar is LIGHT, and has enough knobs and switches on it to please any 21st century techie. The HORROR...the B string was half a note flat! If you're going to buy a guitar, you must buy it from Sweetwater as they take care of you as none other.

George's Guitar

By Robert D. Roach from TX on June 30, 2020 Music Background: 58 years playing Guitar and keyboards professionally and now recreationally

Bought this guitar because I wanted a replica of George Harrison's guitar from the Ed Sullivan show.. Did not disappoint.. Was gun-shy since made in Japan, but don't know why: they make Lexus.. Anyway, this thing sounds great and looks great.. The cushion on the back side is also nice for an old man like me..

History in your Hands

By Paul A. Schacherer from Illinois on April 24, 2019 Music Background: Britsh Invasion, Country and Western

This guitar is not for the feint of heart. True, the name implies a "Country Gentleman" but this beast will rip the house down if you so desire. On the other hand a western ballad will bring tears to the eyes of even the toughest ranch hand. Some guitars desperately want to be iconic but very few are. This guitar wears that title well and will always be connected to names like Harrison,Petty,Atkins,Setzer the names go on and on. No, my name won't be connected to this beauty mentioned above and the best I can do is to be a good custodian to a legendary guitar and know that Iam extremely lucky to own a jewel like this. Sweetwater made this purchase a breeze and Mr. Shillday was the key that opened the door to a great experience that was filled with great professional advice and wisdom. It has been said that, "it is a poor musician who blames his instrument "this guitar does not need to be even played to sound great! You can close your eyes in front of it and hear "Raunchy" "That boy" and "Stray cat strut" Thanks folks ..You will hear from me again.

Gretsch is Great

By Bill Mallonee on November 19, 2018 Music Background: Professional singer/songwriter, guitarist & recording artist.

Simply an incredible, marvelous instrument. Highly inspiring & playable. (The standard U-neck is perfect.) This is a songwriter's dream guitar.
I've own this guitar for 3 years now, written numerous songs on it and made many albums with it.
The core sound is pure & clean; The word "regal" comes to mind.
Each note (and I mean anything in the first, second or third positions) is evenly weighted & gorgeous.
I run this through an old Fender Twin or one of the recently acquired Fender Blues, Jr IV.
the guitar, the tones, the sound is ever inspiring. I always end up with new songs, new ideas.
As I said, the guitar's play-ability is excellent.

The Gretsch Country Gentleman in particular was such a signature sound of the 60's & '70's
(I'd wanted one ever since I was a kid and saw and heard Michael Nesmith play one with the TV band The Monkees!);
From rock, to country, to psychedelia, to the early offerings of the then fledgling West Coast Americana scene, it was Gretsch that brought it's "country soul" to every song.
In addition?
This guitar plays well with any pedals: Modulations, Overdrives, Delays and Reverbs, you name it.

Much "Thanks" to Sweetwater Sales Rep Aaron Regenold for continued goodwill, prompt responses to all my questions on gear and professionalism.

An Amazing Instrument

By Steve Ambrosini from Concord, NC on December 15, 2016

I purchased one of these four years ago from Sweetwater. In every regard, it is an amazing instrument and I seem to like it more every day. I have owned a plethora of Gibsons and Fenders over the years and continue to hold those in high regard as well, but this guitar has such a great personality and a feel and a sound all its own that I consider it a uniquely "singular" instrument. I have wanted one of these for years and regret waiting so long to get one. I highly recommend adding this guitar to any collection. This was my first major purchase from Sweetwater and they were excellent from start to finish. The guitar arrived set up perfectly.
