    Great 12 String

I already own a Gretsch 6122 1959 and I really like it for its sound and ease of playing so be aware I may be prejudiced.

I have a 12 string Washburn acoustic guitar and love the unplugged sound, but it is more difficult to play than a 6 string acoustic.

I happened upon a used 6122 12 string for about 40% off the new price and snapped it up.

It sounds so nice through any of the amps I've used - Roland VGA 7, 60watt Fender Supersonic head and 4x12 Fender Cabinet and even the el cheapo Monoprice 1x10 practice amp.

It's also so easy to play. I almost don't have to press the strings down the action is so low. I am careful not to strum the strings hard to avoid buzzing, but I have an amp for loudness unlike the acoustic 12 string.

Fit, finish, and feel at all 5 stars IMHO.

    This one is a keeper!

Gretsch does suggest to tune the guitar a half or even a whole step low to reduce tension on the neck from the 12 strings and then use a capo at the first or second fret to bring the tuning back up to standard tuning.

    A Finely Crafted Instrument

This guitar is loosely based on the one-off, customized axe that Gretsch produced for Michael Nesmith in 1967. The main differences between the two are the walnut finish (Mike's guitar was a blonde.) and the fact that this guitar has "simulated F-holes" vs. actual F-hole cutouts. However, don't take that as a minus - the solid exterior actually seems to enhance the sustain, while the heavily routed interior adds some wonderfully nuanced tones to give this instrument a true hollow-body sound. The HS Filter'Tron pickups provide the characteristic Gretsch twang. And the various controls offer wide flexibility. This is one of the easiest-to-play 12 strings I've ever had the good fortune to own. The 6122-12 is made in Japan, and is crafted like a fine piece of furniture, with all the attention to detail that you'd expect from a Gretsch. If you're in the market for a 12-string electric, this is the one to get.
