If you're interested in setting up a network for a multi-room studio operation without having to run wires, only to have to dig them up later and replace them when protocols change, the Apple PCI Express Wireless Upgrade Kit enables you to take advantage of connecting without wires via AirPort wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR technologies. The kit can be installed in an open PCI Express slot on any Power Mac G5 Dual or Power Mac G5 Quad.
Bluetooth works with short-range devices like the Apple Wireless Keyboard, Wireless Mouse or to sync a PDA or Bluetooth-enabled cell phone. AirPort Extreme technology connects you wirelessly to the Internet or to other computers from almost anywhere in your home, classroom, or business - up to 150 feet away.
Internal Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate)
Apple's iSync application and Bluetooth allow users to easily synchronize address books and calendars with mobile phone and Palm-powered PDAs without even having to plug them into the computer. Additionally, users can manage many mobile phones features from their computers. By linking a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone with Apple's address book in Mac OS X, users can dial contacts, send SMS text messages, and managing incoming voice calls right from the desktop.
Bluetooth unplugs digital peripherals and makes cable clutter a thing of the past. Bluetooth is an open specification for wireless data transmission that operates on the globally available 2.4GHz radio frequency. Bluetooth devices can communicate with each other within a 30-foot range.
AirPort Extreme enables a Power Mac G5 to join a wireless network, share a network connection wirelessly with another computer, or even stream music from iTunes to a stereo using an AirPort Extreme base station.
AirPort Extreme is the next-generation wireless networking solution from Apple that enables users to achieve wireless data rates nearly 5 times faster than the original AirPort. Connect to the Internet or to other computers without wires, additional phone lines, or complicated networking hardware from almost anywhere in a home, classroom, or business.
AirPort Extreme is based on a wireless technology called 802.11g with data rates up to 54 megabits per second (Mbps). AirPort Extreme allows an AirPort Extreme-enabled Mac to communicate with local AirPort Extreme networks or other Wi-Fi certified 802.11b networks, including earlier versions of Apple's AirPort Base Station. AirPort Extreme devices can communicate with each other up to 150 feet away.
