Amazing value - terrific tone and build quality

I have been playing 12 string instruments for over 40 years but acoustic models. 12 string is my preferred choice for most of my solo guitar writing and performances. I always wanted an electric but couldn't find one that suited my taste for tone or affordability. The best ones were far out of reach.
I've always enjoyed the quality and value that Gretsch instruments provide and when this model came out at this price point I thought it was a safe bet. I wasn't disappointed. Incredible build quality and the tonal possibilities are wide. Comfortable neck and the instrument is very well balanced for sit down or stand up playing. An absolute winner. On top of that, as usual, Jesse my Sweetwater rep and the staff at Sweetwater delivered on time with a perfectly set up/inspected instrument.

    Beautiful in every way

I've had mine for about a month, now. And I gotta say that my first impression from when I pulled it out of the box still holds true. This guitar looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, and feels beautiful in the hand. Smooth like silk. And with the Sweetwater 55 point inspection, it was ready to go as soon as it arrived (after a little bit of retuning - totally to be expected). Just about every day, I walk by where I have it hanging on the wall, and I can't stop myself from pulling it down and playing it for a while. It has a very rich clean sound. And it also sounds wonderful with a little reverb and/or delay added into the mix. The guitar is also successfully making me clean up my technique because of the decreased space between strings and the need to cleanly depress two strings at a time. Love it, love it, love it!

How did I perform with out the 5422 - 12

I have a difficult time separating my enthusiasm and the feeling of being "blown away" I feel as if I am in sensory overload. The Gretsch Hollow body 12 string in Sunburst is my second Gretsch which are equal in fit, finish and beauty. The fact that both instruments are worthy of being framed and shown as object de art is astounding. I have been playing for 50 + years and have gone through many guitars Taylor, Gibson, Framus,Washburn, Hagstrom, Epiphone etc and have never have two of the same brand (different models) be so perfect in finish wark. I find them breathtaking in beauty. The sound which is capable of many voices, particularly when put through a Fender Mustang floor modeling amp, is always clean and distinct, a 12 string is usually prone to become "muddy" loosing the individual string clarity, but this Gretsch sounds fantastic on every EQ I have tried thus far. I was also absolutely blown away by the individual, friendly, dedicated and honest approach exhibited by the assigned sales engineer. This is my first encounter with sweetwater and will certainly not be my last, Sweetwater is the first retail store that I felt comfortable sharing my budget, trusting what was recommended all while not having the instinctually need to hold on to my wallet ! I cannot sing the praises of Sweetwater enough to begin to describe my elation.
I have owned 4 electric 12 strings 2 of which were vastly more expensive than The Gretsch, but they did not deliver the tone, playability nor construction quality . I am totally overjoyed that I finally found my 12 string soul mate. The gretsch brings me back to my early accoustic days when I played a Framus Acoustic 12 which in todays dollars would be in the 12-2500 range. The biggest negative I can find is my delay in finding Sweetwater and finally getting, what I consider one of if not the best electric 12 on the market. I would strongly recommend the Gresch 5422 12 to an one contemplating adding an electric 12 to their repertoire and getting to know Sweetwater along the way.

Twice as good as Six strings!

Love it.... Feels good, plays great, wonderful range of tones at a fraction of the cost of a Ric. Even will jingle jangle for you. As always, spectacular Sweetwater service making the guitar perfect right out of the box.

If you're sitting on the fence.........jump!!!!!!!!

most reviews online seemed to be geared towards acoustic 12 string so ii was hesitant about this guitar and its capabilities. i was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and i opened the case and strummed it....awesome . Pictures don't do this guitar justice , it is utterly beautiful, perfect binding all around. The intonation was spot on,so i am able to enjoy playing before i send it to my luthier for a set up, which by the way was pretty darn good out the box, low action with no fret buzz at all.( unlike some of my high dollar made in u.s.a. guitars) majority of reviews on other sites have complained that the pots are non existent as in either all the way on or all the way off. This i had no problem with, i was able to gradually change the tone with no problem. When u research 12 strings online you get "good for stairway to heaven", beatles fans or the monkees. Thats all fine and good but i have no interest in playing those. This guitar sounds amazing with fuzz pedals and other over drives. This guitar is you tactical nuke!!! I can't wait to experiment with flangers and such with this amazing instrument. i was worried that i may not use this much but just in the first hour with this guitar i know i will go for it daily. And my last comment about people complaining about these being made in korea... get over yourselves, this guitar is built with better attention to detail than my high dollar made in u.s.a. guitars. (you know who I'm talking about) i guess in korea they appreciate their jobs ,come to work on time and represent the company they work for with quality craftsmanship. My only gripe is they don't come with a case????

    Comfortable player with great sound.

I was looking for an electric 12 string with a slightly larger neck, which felt a little more like my acoustic. This guitar looked great right out of the box, and has the bright sound I like for playing 60's and 70's music.
The only problem I had was the intonation was way off on one string, and it took a little time to find the right compromise with two strings per saddle. Enjoyed it right from day 1 - a great value.
