How did I perform with out the 5422 - 12
I have a difficult time separating my enthusiasm and the feeling of being "blown away" I feel as if I am in sensory overload. The Gretsch Hollow body 12 string in Sunburst is my second Gretsch which are equal in fit, finish and beauty. The fact that both instruments are worthy of being framed and shown as object de art is astounding. I have been playing for 50 + years and have gone through many guitars Taylor, Gibson, Framus,Washburn, Hagstrom, Epiphone etc and have never have two of the same brand (different models) be so perfect in finish wark. I find them breathtaking in beauty. The sound which is capable of many voices, particularly when put through a Fender Mustang floor modeling amp, is always clean and distinct, a 12 string is usually prone to become "muddy" loosing the individual string clarity, but this Gretsch sounds fantastic on every EQ I have tried thus far. I was also absolutely blown away by the individual, friendly, dedicated and honest approach exhibited by the assigned sales engineer. This is my first encounter with sweetwater and will certainly not be my last, Sweetwater is the first retail store that I felt comfortable sharing my budget, trusting what was recommended all while not having the instinctually need to hold on to my wallet ! I cannot sing the praises of Sweetwater enough to begin to describe my elation.
I have owned 4 electric 12 strings 2 of which were vastly more expensive than The Gretsch, but they did not deliver the tone, playability nor construction quality . I am totally overjoyed that I finally found my 12 string soul mate. The gretsch brings me back to my early accoustic days when I played a Framus Acoustic 12 which in todays dollars would be in the 12-2500 range. The biggest negative I can find is my delay in finding Sweetwater and finally getting, what I consider one of if not the best electric 12 on the market. I would strongly recommend the Gresch 5422 12 to an one contemplating adding an electric 12 to their repertoire and getting to know Sweetwater along the way.
