Gretsch G5420T – Fantastic Guitar
I recently purchased this Gretsch G5420T (in black) from Sweetwater. All I can say is WOW! I am totally amazed with this guitar. I just can't seem to be able to put it down. I've owned a lot of electric guitars in my 40+ years of playing, and this Gretsch is by far the best of any I've ever owned. I even owned a 1959 Chet Atkins Gretsch for many years and it never played or sounded like this Gretsch. The fretting on the G5420T is smooth and only requires an easy touch. It has that distinctive Gretsch sound and then some. I primarily play fingerstyle, (progressive Chet songs and Jazz songs, etc...), so most of the time I use the neck pickup and back off the volume a little bit and put the master tone at about seven. I play it through my Fishman Loudbox Artist (also purchased from Sweetwater) with all the EQ knobs set at neutral (center) and I put a set of D'Addario EXL115w Nickel Wound Medium (wound 3rd) strings on it. With this setup I get a very sweet and warm sound that I've always heard in my head. The only thing I had to do to this guitar is adjust the intonation on the low E and A, they were way off, but the rest of the strings were spot on. To sum it up, this is one of the best purchases that I have ever made. I would recommend this guitar.
