Great Speaker!

I've installed (5) of these Celestion G12-35XC speakers in Deluxe Reverbs, from orig '64 to the new '65 Reissues. Every owner absolutely loves them! WAY better than the OEM speakers that come with the new re-issues. (The '64 came in broken and no speaker). A pair was installed in a 2x12 5F6-A Bassman repro I built and it is a fantastic sounding amp! These are some of the best new 12" speakers available on the market right now!

Awesome speaker

I swapped out the stock Vintage 30 in my Cornell Plexi 7 with a G12-35XC. The V30 had about 15-20 hours of break-in and while it somewhat mellowed out during that time, the pronounced mids were fatiguing my ears. I bought the G12-35XC under recommendation from Dr.Decible at Celestion. Right out of the box, the G12-35XC assured me that my tone was moving in the right direction. I initially perceived a greater low end range that was not flubby and there was more overall texture, balance, warmth and clarity. The harsh frequency range that contributed to the ear fatigue was gone and the treble was clear yet sweet, warm and very pleasing to my ears - might be that Pulsonic thing going on. After approximately 15 hours of playing, it simply sounds superb! The sensitivity of the G12-35XC is rated at 100db which is same as a V30, but the 35XC sounds quieter as if the sensitivity is slightly lower; it has more Greenback grind then the V30 and it sounds great clean and dirty too. Dr. Decible informed me that the G12-35XC has "many similar characteristics to the Vintage 30, but is a bit more musical and has a less aggressive high-end." I would agree with his assessment and add that the tone leans more towards a Greenback in warmth and it is definitely more musical then the V30. The tone now is more vintage then modern and it suits my Plexi clone very well.

Great for gigging

This is a great speaker for gigging when you need to play a bunch of different styles, without having to switch cabs. It's got a nice combination of clean tone and vintage Celestion growl. The cleans are more chiming like an Alnico, and they don't take your head off like some Celestions can. I've run this in a 1x12 for small gigs and in a 2x12 paired with an A-Type, which is becoming my best combination.

Just the sound I needed

I bought two of this speaker after watching the video demo Pete Thorn did online. I dropped them into a Marshall 2061 cab and am ecstatic by the sound improvement. The speakers have very articulate highs but are still warm and add just the right amount of crunch to the amps tone when breaking up. Absolutely a superb speaker.
