EJ's Signature Fuzz Sound in a Pedal

Without a doubt Eric Johnson is one of the modern masters of tone. Part of his favorite lead tone is the sweet sound of classic fuzz. To get the perfect fuzz tone, Eric Johnson got together with fuzz-tone mastermind Jeorge Tripps and together they developed the Eric Johnson Fuzz Face. Inspired by the tones of Johnson's prized Fuzz Face collection, this hot rodded fuzz pedal uses hand-selected BC183 silicon transistors for higher gain and features custom '68-'69 knobs and a vintage-style hammertone finish for a one-of-a-kind look.

Dunlop Eric Johnson Fuzz Face Features:
  • The sound of Eric Johnson's favorite fuzz tone in a pedal
  • Designed around Johnson's personal collection of Fuzz Face pedals
  • Created by Fuzz Face master engineer, Jeorge Tripps
  • Hand-selected BC183 silicon transistors provide extra-high gain
  • Unique look includes custom '68-'69 knobs and a vintage-style hammertone finish
The Dunlop Eric Johnson Fuzz Face gives you the fuzz tone of a guitar legend!

Way Exceeds Expectation

I just got this and was expecting a good pedal, but this Fuzz Face is way fantastic! My chain went Fender Stratocaster > Fuzz Face > Boss DD-5 Digital Delay > Boss Stereo Chorus > Fender Super Sonic Twin Combo set to clean. I cranked both the volume and fuzz on the pedal and went at it. When you play notes semi-fast and run slides and whatnot, it has that classic violin feel (to the sound) that Johnson is so famous for.....and I'm not even that great of a guitarist! This was playing with my amp WAY down. This pedal is good enough to be used in place of most distortion pedals; great for lead and on to shop for an analog delay.......

This is the one!

This pedal into my 5150 III half stack on channel 2 with a ej start and tc flashback delay on the tape echo is sonic delight. If is very smooth sounding and worthy of the name on the pedal. It looks awesome. But make sure you get the correct battery or you will sell your self short! I know it sounds crazy but you can tell a difference. Remember garbage in garbage out! Good luck!

Excellent fuzz face

I'm a bit of a fuzz face freak. I own several, including the Bonamassa, Hendrix, Fulltone 69 and 70 (big box) and MJM London Fuzzes I and II. Each as its own character, though the differences can be subtle at times. For further reference, I play single coils 95% of the time. This is a high gain fuzz face, higher all the others mentioned. Maxed out, it literally feels like the amp is going to blow up. It's got that kind of power to it. Great articulation bite without being brittle. Easily provides the classic violin-like tones and sustain of its namesake. It does not clean up quite as well with the guitar's volume knob as the lower gain fuzz faces I own, but that is to be expected with a high gain fuzz face. This is the only reason I deducted a half point. Cosmetically, this is a gorgeous pedal. It goes without saying that it can eat up a lot of real estate on a pedal board, so if this is important to you look elsewhere. I personally like large pedals and the retro style and finish of this pedal is, in my opinion, pure eye candy. If you are a fuzz fanatic, this is a must add to your collection. It is different enough from the other production fuzz faces out there; it has its own (strong) voice.

Eric Johnson Fuzz Face

This is a great pedal, It has the true fuzz sound that you may expect, I would suggest using this pedal with another Overdrive Pedal or Compression Pedal. I use an Eric Johnson Strat, 65 Reissue Super Reverb and combine the EJ Fuzz with my Zendrive or my MXR Dyna Comp and can deliver some nice warm tones. The Ej Fuzz is very volume sensitive so you will have to play around with the pedal's fuzz and volume and also your guitar volume. With your guitar volume on 10 you will get that great classic fuzz but if you slightly roll back the volume to 8 it becomes a smooth overdrive. I had swapped out my Zendrive 2 for this pedal and I can say that I am satisfied with my setup.
