Perfect amp for the size

By Sweetwater Customer on February 14, 2024

I bought this amp for my kid to practice in their room without bothering the neighbors. This does exactly that. It can get plenty loud for personal use and sounds fine. But keep your expectations in check; a small amp can only do so much. That said, we're happy with this amp.

Love it!

Having a blast with this little practice amp! Thanks to my sales rep, Austin Childress for all of his help.

Just what I needed

By Mike Richardson from GA on December 20, 2022 Music Background: Bass,Pedal steel and some guitar

My amp shipped in just 2 days.I was very pleased to see it packed very well.I needed a amp for my earphones and something small and this fits the bill.I am a pedal steel player trying to learn six string guitar all over again and I did not want to wake my wife at 4 in the morning.

Good for the price...

By Frank Queen from Bronson, MI on December 14, 2022 Music Background: 50 years old, playing since age 14. Mostly a hobby player these days.

I actually bought it 4 years ago, but realized I never wrote a review. It's surprising how light it is, almost felt like a toy. That being said, it's sturdily built, just very, very lightweight which is quite nice.

I do mostly clean channel playing, not really much into heavy rocking much anymore. For clean channel playing, this little amp has a great sound. It puts out quite a bit of volume. I have used it playing for church and was more than enough volume to be heard with folks singing.

The distortion is just okay, which is what kept me from giving the amp a 5-star review. But, most folks who want to rock out, probably aren't going for a 10-watt amp anyway. The distortion is decent enough for use in practice or playing along to your own music collection.

Fender Frontman 10G 1x6" 10-watt Combo Amp

By Sweetwater Customer from VA on April 30, 2022

Great for Beginners

A good little practica amp .

By Sweetwater Customer on April 3, 2022

This little amp has all the power that you're likely to want for practicing... and then it fits almost anywhere out of the way between times .
To achieve what to me is a good sound balance however ,the bass needs to be cranked up and the treble down ,
so I suspect that the similar Martial version has a warmer tone which I would have likely preferred . It all depends of what sound you're after . Removing the back of this Fender amp , I found it has two 40mm vent holes in the bottom corners of the front panel either side of the speaker.
I found that a couple of pieces of standard 40mm diameter pipe about 9 cm long fitted perfectly to make bass reflex tubes which improve the cabinet's bass response . If anybody cares to try this then I guess I should say that you should be sure to unplug the amp before removing the back . That health and safety warning out of the way , fitting the tubes is about a ten minute job.

All in all I wound say that this is a good little unit .

Me And My Shadow

By Michael from Vermont on October 19, 2021 Music Background: Dedicated amateur

I needed a highly portable amp to take out onto the porch without a lot of fuss. And it needed to be one that if the dog knocked it off, into the bushes, it would not be a tragedy. Just a little volume and power for my guitar.
The Frontman is not much larger than a shoe box and lighter than a guitar. Perfect.
But, it's actually pretty decent. Good clear tone on the dry setting, and nice sweet growl on the overdrive setting. The cable ports are tight, no rattle or hum. The bass and treble eq work well. With an 1/8 male to male cable I was able to run backing tracks and streamed recordings from my Mac through the speaker while playing the guitar. Now, I'm dragging it around the house from room to room whenever I have an extra half hour and need to be in a room other than my studio. Last night I put the football game on mute and watched while playing in the living room. And it looks like a Fender (only miniature).

NOT made in China

By Sean L. from Washington State on October 8, 2021 Music Background: Long-time semi-pro musician

Lots of good small amp choices out there these days, of course, and I haven't even received this amp yet, but I'm quite confident that it will work perfectly for my needs. But I'll tell you that a big -- BIG -- selling point was that this amp is not made in China -- it's made in Indonesia. Sure wish I could find something like this made in the US, but anything other than China is a decent choice -- we have to stop enriching countries that are hell-bent on destroying us. Sorry, but that's the way of the world. Anyway, really looking forward to playing my Strat, Tele, Jag and Getsch (mostly Sweetwater purchases!) through this little baby...

Inexpensive and small

By Sweetback from US on August 2, 2021 Music Background: novice

This is fine for a starter to get you interested in playing, which it did for me and I am grateful to have had a chance to learn for a low entry price. As you start wanting to dial in on tone and want to experiment with sounds, it falls flat. The speaker is a tinny, the OD is weird, and it is really difficult to find the right volume when playing with gain. There is no low volume area that sounds ok unless you play fully clean.

Great Amp For Travel

By Ted Bauer from MA on December 17, 2020

As usual my Sales Engineer Mike Wright was a great resource to sort through options available, and there are many. I was looking for a small portable amp that had a big sound. The Fender Frontman absolutely filled the bill.

It comes in a small package, has a big classic Fender sound, with ample tone range options for a good price. I find myself plugging into this amp quite often even when my larger amp is next to it. Great way to spend more time with practice as I can grab it and go into another room if others are trying to do something else.

You know, for kids

By Sweetwater Customer on November 14, 2020 Music Background: Professional cellist learning to rock

The clean sound is ok to good at quiet volumes. The overdrive sound is really not very good at any volume: very gritty and artificial. As part of a starter rig for a kid, it'd probably be great. (Cheap, small, light, not too loud, easy to use, etc.) For an adult who can afford a bit more....go ahead and talk to a sales engineer about something you'll be happy with past the first month of playing. I wish I had.

So glad i made this purchase

By Russ Cooper from KS on July 27, 2020

I gave my grandson my Epiphone Les Paul Special for his birthday and needed a practice amp to go with it. I ordered a Fender Frontman 10G from Sweetwater. This was my first experience with this seller and was blown away by the response time, support and followup. First rate all the way...I will definitely be back next time I need some gear.

It's what it is.

By Sweetwater Customer on July 5, 2020

It's a practice amp. You're going to get exceptional quality for the price and it will produce a clean tone from you guitar with an optional overdrive setting that isn't bad. Also, this amp can get fairly loud for it's ampage it has. All in all it will produce okay sound at a cheap price and that's what I got it for.

Review of my Fender Frontman 10G 1×6 electric guitar combo amp.
My name is Craig Steven Anderson and I am using my LG phone to write this review so I will be brief. I purchased and received my Fender Frontman a few days ago April-29 and May-4, 2020 respectively... I also purchased a Behringer TO800 distortion pedal and D'Addario guitar strings although for this review I will focus on the Frontman.
To begin with the Fender Frontman is simple to operate the controls are basically on off switch, an overdrive/clean selector switch, and individual control pots for gain, volume, treble, and bass.
Furthermore, the Frontman is portable affordable and accountable. As well as a user friendly combo amp for the purpose of practicing. Likewise, of utility having great sound suitable for multiple Sui generis of music. And, for guitarist at most any skill level.
Similarly, from my perspective at this point in my guitar journey I am on the intermediate path. I play a country rock hybrid style and guitar. Specifically, a Fender Squier classic vibe 70s Thinline tele. And, I noticed immediately upon use, the improved difference the Frontman made in my music. Before the Frontman I had a similar combo amp as far as the size and features i.e. a BC. But, as far as the sound the two are not comparable. The Fender Frontman is of extreme overall quality and performance for the money likewise delivering the true colors of my music i.e. timbre. Therefore, the Fender Frontman benefit is much greater than cost.
Respectfully, Craig Steven Anderson

Great Beautifully made Amp.

By Allen Whitaker from Acton, MA on August 8, 2019 Music Background: Beginner

The first thing you notice upon unpacking this amp. is it's exceptional build quality. The sound and range of this mighty little amp. is truly remarkable, enabling all the nuances of your guitar's sound to come through naturally. The compact size and wide range of sound tailoring makes it ideal for home practice. The headphone jack is great for quiet practice and helps me identify areas of my play that need attention as I learn to play. Patrick, my Sales Engineer did a great job helping me pick out this Amp. as part of my first kit and stayed in regular touch to keep me updated regarding delivery of this Amp. as it was initially back ordered.

Great office amp!!!

By Sweetwater Customer from North Carolina on May 29, 2019 Music Background: Drummer/Guitar player

I've been playing my 2011 Fender Modern Player Marauder that has a Jazz Master style neck pickup and a triple bucker bridge pickup through this amp for two years. It produces all the volume you'd need for office/home play. I play with all levels on 10 and it gives a great sounding distortion crunch with no added peddle. Turn down the gain and guitar tone and it is as smooth as all get out. It's light, loud, and looks great. You won't regret it.

Minimalist Amp

By George on February 13, 2019

Neat little amp, but very tiny and is limited by the speaker size. Plenty of volume, but not much body to the sound. So small I have it tucked into a bookcase. Worth the money, but pay attention to the dimensions. I ordered a slightly larger amp for my original need. Kept this one though, so there it is. Ideal for a dorm room or any very small environment. Or for a kid's first amp.

Great Little Amp-FENDER TONE

They pack a lot of tone into this little amp! I bought this for my step son who needs to be able to practice and carry his stuff over to a friend's house, his Dad's or wherever.

Not going to play bars with this, but that isn't what it's for.

I think the price is right on this, too!

By Dennis from SC on January 26, 2018 Music Background: once pro, now so-so

I wasn't expecting quite so full of a sound. It has the typical Fender clarity. I've tried other mini amps and have to say 10 watts, 6" speaker for this price? It ain't out there, except in this little Fender. I bought 2, one for my wife's violin and she is quite pleased also. The volume knobs are numbered 1-10, no 0 and nothing happens until you get to 2, that's my only irrelevant negative. You should gitcha one!

I bought this for my nine year old daughter who finally decided she wanted to learn to play. It's a great little practice amp for the price and good for any beginner. The drive is horrid as you can imagine but has a decent clean tone.

Again, for the money you can't beat it for a small practice amp.

A compact amp that fits perfectly in my cramped music room. It's my very 1st ever electronic purchase for my 1st ever electric guitar, and the price was within my budget. I'm not an over-powering guitar player by any means, so this amp has exactly all that I need.

Gets the job done

By John K from pine grove, pa on July 16, 2016 Music Background: Gigging musician, classic rock, country.

This little SS amp is going on vacation with me so I can keep practicing. Checked it out and it does what I expect. Loud enough to annoy people in the same house but nice and clean. It takes my pedals well despite not having a loop. I did not expect to get a loop at this price point. Definitely NOT for gigging, though it might do a small coffee house type thing. If it lasts a couple years with modest usage, I'd say it's a great buy.

Yeah, great little practice amp for under 100 dollars. Very light weight but solid. Plugged in an acoustic electric and also a les paul, it does them justice. For its size, it's loud and clear but mine has an audible "click" when pushing the gain button but dial gain control down then turn back up after you press the button. Highly recommend for just about any small event.

OH YEAH!!!

By JD from South Park CO on April 16, 2016

I traded a buddy for a 10g, 15 watt rumble, and a Yamaha fg kid sized acoustic. Mostly I wanted the fg for a friends 2.5 year old little girl. During a break in rehearsal I plugged my Epi Les Paul Special 1 into this little gem. I dialed in some clean tone and it sounded decent. The real surprise came When I dialed in the drive channel and set the volume on 9,Our drummer(who is annoyingly good on most instruments) was drawn right back in to our studio. HIs eyes popped out of his noggin when he saw the 10g parked in front of my Princeton Chorus(great sleeper amp for little money). Then his jaw dropped when I told him "no pedals" just straight into the amp. Well he held his hands out like a kid on xmas so I went to the kitchen while he ripped some fusion and blues. Our lead player got a huge smile when I told him it was the frontman. I have a ton of gear from cheap to moderately priced. The tone I got from this setup was good enough to be mic'd and put through a pa. As good as my American deluxe stat thru my blues deville 410, not hardly. In terms of value it is good enough to where I am looking for a speaker upgrade, as the stock one is sure to receive more abuse than it can take.
.

Perfect for My Needs

By Jim from Brooklyn, NY on January 31, 2016 Music Background: Intermediate guitarist

This little amp exactly suits my needs. It's small and easy to tote around, but it's amazingly powerful, and delivers a clean, crisp sound when I play my acoustic-electric through it. I play in a small venue, and it's loud enough to play along with an electric piano and electric guitar and still be heard. Best of all, it's the perfect practice amp. But the BEST part of my purchase was Sweetwater's legendary customer service. This is first order from Sweetwater, and though I've heard of their excellence, this is the first time I experienced it myself. Dylan, my personal Sales Engineer, patiently and fully answered my many questions, and he made great recommendations. Best of all, the amp arrived just a few days after I ordered it -- and that's despite a 30" snowstorm! I'd recommend this amp, and I especially recommend Sweetwater for all your music needs.

What a Great Little Amp!

By Jim Buscemi from Massachusetts on March 2, 2015 Music Background: hobbyist

This little amp packs a lot of power in a mighty small package. True, compared to my Champion 40 it just doesn't have the power to compete, but it's a tough call when deciding on a practice amp between this and the Champion 20. The 20 has more features (and twice the power) however this little dynamo sounds great, really surprises you in overdrive and is extremely portable, making it a wonderful practice amp.
No you won't quite get the same volume you get from a Champion 20, but you get as much volume as you will need in a practice amp. The 'overdrive' basically is an on/off switch for the gain, which you can increase or decrease using a rotary knob. I really love the bright, clear, clean sound that this amplifier provides with the overdrive button in the 'off' position, but it's also a lot of fun to turn on the overdrive, turn up the gain and play a little Hendrix.
In power, sound quality and overall quality of this little amplifier is actually quite amazing.
In fact it is hard to believe this little guy only packs a six inch speaker - as the Frontman 10 packs some big sound.
Great for the bedroom, office, basement or to carry to lessons. And at this price you will be very pleased. The Frontman 10 is a Fender product, and this little guy is built with the same great quality as the big Fender amps. I've yet to own a Fender product that I haven't really enjoyed, and this amp is no exception. In fact although I also own two larger & more expensive amplifiers, the Frontman 10 is the amplifier I enjoy using the most, due to it's crystal clear, clean, bright sound - it's actually quite extraordinary in an amp of this size. I highly recommend this amp!

Fender Frontman 10G

By Clark Julian from South East on August 28, 2013 Music Background: 16 years playing Rock,Punk ...20 yr. did not play.Back in the saddle again.

As others have stated very loud for 10 watts of power. The cleanest amp I have ever played through. The Over drive is Good put not gritty.
I have to run a Pod into it to get grit, reverb ect. With the volume on 1 the over drive on 5.My wife can hear me outside our brick house.

Purchased for my son for a birthday gift. He really likes it. I am enjoying it, too, because I like to hear the music he plays.

Being a beginner this packs enough sound for me. Have had to turn it down a few times as the rest of the household said it was loud.

LOUD & CLEAR

By jeffrey m sussman from n.j. on November 19, 2012 Music Background: i play guitar

I wanted one of these for a long long long time......n o w. I have one. I'm using it as a monitor with a line 6 jm4 out the amp connector and my samson mdr624 mixer running into the looper aux out to aux in....an audio technica mic and an lp 100 all also purchased atsweetwater...the mixer is handling multiple synth action with no problems.....the fender frontman 10g plays back and monitors it all crystal clear at 1/2 I can 't complain because with that work load I m hardly ever even getting any clipping....self control....the lil amp is my friend now...o wait I hear it calling me even as we speak

Baby Fender

By Vern Chandler from Minneapolis, MN USA on June 13, 2012 Music Background: Ex-Bar Blaster from the 70's and 80's that can't quit...

It's the tiniest Fender I've ever seen (or played) but it's still a Fender. I used a twin reverb for over 30 years with my explorer and had the nastiest sound you can imagine without any modern wave shaping doo-dads. This one will never take the place of that twin but it's a great little practice amp and I can actually carry it alone (by the time I got to be 50 I had to beg my daughters to help me carry the twin - ha, ha). The controls are simple so it's pretty easy to dial in an acceptable sound and the naughty button roughs up things plenty good enough for practicing. I haven't tried it with my acoustic yet (I'm not even sure why I would, probably just curious) but it works fine with my electric and also for practicing my bass at low volumes.

Absolutely Perfect

By Neal reinnagel from New York on January 25, 2012

Fender is a well known reliable name in the business and certainly holds true for this amp. The value for the reasonable cost exceeds my expectations and you won't be disappointed. The case is well made and could withstand a lot of abuse, Excellent product, two thumbs up !!!

Fender Frontma 10G

By Dallas from Philadelphia on December 1, 2011 Music Background: Student

Sounds great with my MIM Fender Strat. Its loud enough to cut through an acoustic guitar, but also has the backing in the bass department to feel substantial. Great electric guitar amp.

Small Wonder

By Robert Wilkinson from Nottoway Virginia on July 27, 2011 Music Background: In The Background

If you want a small practice amp then the 10G deserves a serous look!

Solid Product

By Sweetwater Customer on July 24, 2011 Music Background: Hobby Musician and Student

Competitive Pricing. It has great range, I've cranked it up and have experience no static or rattling, compact and portable. Audio Remains Clear even in overdrive. This is a great product made by a notable company, and sold for a reasonable price by a AAA Retailer. FIVE STARS.
