Nail Eddie's Tone

The EVH Frankenstein humbucker pickup instantly gives you classic Eddie Van Halen guitar tone. Superhuman chops aside, Eddie forged his unmistakable sound through incessant tinkering with guitar parts and pickups. Eddie experimented so much, in fact, that his main guitar - a mishmash of disparate parts - became known worldwide as "Frankenstein." A direct replacement for all standard humbucking pickups, the Frankenstein humbucker lets you nail Eddie's classic tone: stinging, singing highs, snarling mids, fat brown sound and all. Equip your axe with legendary Eddie Van Halen tone, with the EVH Frankenstein humbucker.

EVH Frankenstein Humbucker Guitar Pickup Features at a Glance:
  • Nail Eddie's tone!
  • Direct replacement for all standard humbucking pickups
  • A hip alternative to "usual suspect" replacement humbuckers
  • DC resistance: 14.4k

Bad*** Pup!

I just put this on my PRS SE and Wow! This thing is rich with harmonics. They say it is a medium output pickup but seems pretty hot to me. Metal is my genre of music and this pup fits the bill very well.

My favorite humbucker in the world

I had this installed in my project guitar, along with YJM Fury's, in the neck and middle positions: could not be happier with this setup. I've used a SD JB (TB4) in the bridge, SD stacked single coils in neck and middle, for years, on my Jackson DK1, and it's done everything pretty well, but this Frankenstein is like I took the JB and dropped pixie dust on it. It's not hype, this pick-up really is something special. You can back off the volume to play clean, rhythm parts, and crank back up to play your lead lines. It sounds absolutely phenomenal. For neo-classical lines, I prefer the neck YJM Fury as it's just beats any traditional humbucker, but that's just a preference. If I could only have one pickup for a guitar, I'd go with the EVH Frankenstein for heavy blues, rock and the like, no question. You can do EVH, Hendrix, SRV, and Jimmy Page tunes and it sounds great. Match this pickup with a great amp and you'll be blown away. Simply inspiring!

10 out of 10 perfect!

Great pick up! Perfect for playing those riffs from the late 70's. I put it in a fender modded to look and sound like Eddie's actual guitar. I used that pick up to record all of my guitar tracks in my bands EP. It's a nice pick up with an amazing tone to it. It has that ring and sustain that all music genres need. If I were to record another album, I would use that same guitar with that pick up it!
Music background: Rhythm guitar in small local ban called Inhuman Wrath, been playing for nearly 8 years.

Absolutely terrific pickup

After about a month of ownership, I'm thrilled with this product. My main guitar is a Japanese superstrat from the 80's. it's a wonderful guitar to play, but I've gone through a succession of humbuckers as I've attempted to get a better sound out of it over the years. The search is over. Played through my Marshall, this guitar roars. When on the overdriven circuit, you can get a number of different shades of tone out of the pickup, from metal to classic rock to the obligatory VH-esque "brown" sound. It punches through the effects chain, refusing to muddy up the notes. In fact, I've noticed some sloppiness in a few of my songs that I really didn't hear with the previous pickup (a Schaller). I'm also impressed by it's clean sound- it cleans up nicely. Roll off the volume a bit, and you get a nice, warm, clear, mellow sound. Put up the volume all the way and you get the slightest hint of overdrive through the amp. Between this pickup, the Dunlop Echoplex pedal at the front of my signal chain, and the MXR Carbon Copy on the back of the chain, you can recreate your own early EVH sound with ease without spending a ton on your effects loop. I ordered this unit from Sweetwater when a competing music store kept changing the expected delivery date. The customer service at Sweetwater was terrific, My "sales engineer," Paul, kept me in the loop every step of the way regarding my purchase, and followed up to make sure it was to my satisfaction. The sales experience was very different from other large music stores that I have encountered. I'll definitely buy from Sweetwater again.
