Create new depths of distortion by layering overdrives

The Red Witch Famulus pedal lets you create killer overdrive sounds by combining two separate gain circuits. Gain A has a definite bite and crunch to it, and can go from almost clean to high-gain distortion. Gain B has a similar gain structure but is voiced with a pronounced midrange punch. The Alchemy control lets you blend these two gain circuits together to create unique and limitless sounds. Stack a cleaner sound with a high-gain tone for great punch and definition, or combine two milder gain settings for smoking overdrive. The only limit of the Red Witch Famulus is your imagination.

Internal control for additional customization

Like many Red Witch guitar effects pedals, the Famulus has a hidden secret inside. Pop the case open (it's easy, and encouraged by Red Witch), and there's an internal slide that lets you adjust the gain of the Famulus. Adjusting this control changes the gain of Gain A, letting you match the gain of Gain B. It's an innovative way to fine-tune your Red Witch Famulus effect to suit whatever style you're going for.

True-bypass design for pure tone

When not in use, the Red Witch Famulus's true bypass design takes it completely out of your signal chain. It doesn't run your signal through the entire pedal, but directly from the input to the output. This keeps your signal pure, and your precious tone unaffected. The Red Witch Famulus is awesome even when it is turned off!

Red Witch Famulus Distortion/Overdrive Guitar Pedal Features:
  • Dual distortion/overdrive circuits in a single pedal
  • Combine both overdrives at once for subtle or over-the-top distortion
  • Internal control to boost the input and slightly change the tonal character
  • True bypass design to keep your signal intact when not in use
Create amazing layered overdrive sounds with the Red Witch Famulus!

Incredible for guitar & bass

If you can only have one dirt pedal, this thing would keep you satisfied. This is everything you expect from a great OD pedal and the dual-gain / alchemy feature gives it a lot of range. As you crank it up, it easily gets into distortion territory (like an Fulltone OCD, for example), but does not get insane like a MetalZone or Fuzz pedal. My favorite thing about this pedal is the attack. It has a really crisp bite even at full gain, and plays nicely when I send it into other overdrives. I can also get this to overdrive by bass and bass amp wonderfully, but expect a drop in low-end. The alchemy (blender knob) feature is awesome because you can set one gain high and the other low, and get some very unique grit sounds blending them. Think the intro of "Drown" by The Smashing Pumpkins - clean sizzle!

Nice Overdrive

This is a really sweet overdrive, but a little lackluster as a standalone distortion. When overdriving the gain channel of a tube amp, the Famulus gives a nice punch to the mids and highs, not really overwhelming you with lows. How the gains interact with each other is also pretty cool. The box itself is well built, and the paint is durable enough for my toddler to smack it with a patch cable without leaving a mark (I just about crapped my pants though). Something pretty odd about it is that the tone knob is backwards: counter-clockwise for brighter, clockwise for darker. Not really inconvenient, but worth mentioning. Summary: I love mine. It adds mid-punch to my lead channel, and I like that. As a standalone distortion, a little lackluster (I play metal though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt).

Great sound, poor quality

While working, this pedal was great. You can dial in any sort of grit you could possibly want, thanks to the two different gains coupled with the ability to blend them together.. however- this pedal has given me nothing but trouble... after very light use, Gain B died on me... completely. I sent it back for free repair, to New Zealand, and received it back roughly 2 months later in good working order, or so I thought.. After a 2 days of "just to be sure" sessions Gain B died completely again, needing a pedal for a show I decided to just make use of Gain A and then send it back for repair again after the show... in the middle of the show, Gain A died completely... so now, I have a useless pedal that cost some serious $ and I have no peace of mind that it will be fixed whenever I send it back for repair... I am now experiencing the same issues with my Pentavocal Tremolo... poor quality
