    Love the sound

I play keys (primarily AP voices) in a duo with a bass player, and was looking in this price range for a slab that had its own speakers, did AP, as well as some EP and the ability to layer a pad like sound if I wanted. Weight was also an issue and I wanted to keep it under 40 lbs. After some Q and A on Keyboard Corner, the consensus led to 3 keyboards. The Yamaha P255, Roland FP50, and the Casio PX560. These are all great boards, that played slightly different in their actions,(all a little on the heavier side) but I adjusted easily.
I did not need another workstation, as I am happy with my Yamaha MOXF8 for that, but wanted to upgrade from my Yamaha P105, keeping a simple interface. The keys on the Roland feel great, and I just love the sound. It is just what I need for my gig. It has a great sound with it's internal speaker system, but hooking up the Center Point Stereo SSv3 I purchased from Sweetwater as well, really spreads the sound out nicely to fill a room. Very happy with the sound and feel of this keyboard. My Sweetwater rep Jeff Hollman was huge help to me during my research and purchase.

    Love this keyboard

I am a semi professional musician, meaning I have a full time day job in a different industry! I do play in local restaurants for fun! The sound quality and touch of this keyboard far exceeded my expectations. I have owned half a dozen digital keyboards over the years and was going to buy a different brand. After talking with the Sweetwater consultant, I took his advice and tried this one and am very happy. I told him I did not want to have to be a PHD to learn the keyboard. The only downside is Roland insists you can only use a proprietary USB flash drive - we are still trying to obtain one.

    The Best Keyboard For Me

Let me begin my review by saying that there are an overwhelming number of choices of keyboards on the market but there are only a couple ones that fit each person's specific needs. In order to find the right keyboard, it is important to play several different keyboards and find out all of the options available. The next thing is to determine what things are important to you. I won't list all of the possibilities because my next point will answer that. The final thing is to have a conversation with the keyboard staff at Sweetwater. I have come to depend on them for many decisions that I have needed to make regarding my equipment. My most recent purchase was for the Roland FP50. I consulted with many people and tried out many keyboards. However, my final decision was based on the advice that I received from Sweetwater. Now I have the best Keyboard that meets my needs. I am a professional entertainer. This keyboard can be used by anyone but it can satisfy any professional's standards. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive keyboard that was light to carry. It also had to sound and feel like a grand piano. The keyboard needed amazing piano sounds. I also needed weighted keys. The Supernatural piano sounds and Intelligent Rhythm features on the FP50 are amazing. The FP80 keyboard offers more things but it wasn't right for me. It is heavier and more expensive. It also includes things that I will never use. More expensive keyboards with additional options are not always things that a customer wants. My church has the RD-700NX Version 2. The keyboard is amazing but it isn't the best keyboard for me. No keyboard is perfect for everyone. However, the FP50 is perfect for me. If I could have any keyboard for any price, I would choose the FP50. Now it is up to you to find the keyboard that is right for you. If you want to find that out, ask the staff at Sweetwater.. They're the best!!

    It's Just What I Wanted!

Considering both my musical background and experience, and my very
traditional Victorian-style home (I have alot of antique furniture and
decorative pieces), my black Roland FP-50 perfectly fits into my lifestyle! I purchased the FP-50 because it has both piano and organ
features, extensive rhythm features whch are easier to use than my old
Casio keyboard, and looks terrific [with a minimal number of selector
buttons above the keys] sitting on my 19th-Century writing table in
my living room! With this instrument, while playing hymns, I can easily
"switch" from piano to organ; or easily "switch" from one rhythm back-up sound to another for popular music., and it even includes various
sound-effects that could be added into unusual fun popular song
arrangements. I can also record my performances to work on improving my technique or arrangement for a specific piece of music
I want to learn/or work on. As I understand it, the next Roland keybord
"up" would be the V-Piano beyboard, which would have been great,
but of course doesn't include organ features, which I also wanted.
So if you want a really versatile keyboard, to play a wide variety of
music, I'd say the Roland FP-50 is the one you'd want!

    Nice

Great playing and sounding piano with quite a few extra features. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of a USB output for MIDI. I had to buy a Roland UM-ONE to make it work with my DAW. However, the feel of the keys compared to the many others I tried with USB ports still made me go with this one.
