Genuine Sitka spruce top for great tone

Yamaha chose a solid Sitka spruce top for their FGX830C for both its look and tone. Sitka spruce has a well-rounded, articulate sound with excellent projection. These qualities have made it the undisputed leader for acoustic guitar tops throughout the industry. And because it's a solid-wood top, the tone will age gracefully, with enhanced harmonics and greater tonal balance as the years go by. And Yamaha improved their scalloped bracing on the FGX830C to allow for more top movement, resulting in a larger low end and more projection.

Rosewood back and sides

The FGX830C sports a body made from rosewood. This wood is a favorite among flatpickers at Sweetwater for its warm tone with plenty of harmonic content. Its rich sound enhances the lowest fundamental as well as top-end clarity, delivering a punchy tone that is great for getting through a mix. The sound is very fast to react, too, so every nuance of your playing is heard with definition. Combined with the lively and defined sound of the spruce top, you'll love the rich and wide-ranging tone you get from the Yamaha FGX830C.

Yamaha System-66 electronics

The Yamaha FGX830C acoustic-electric guitar also has you covered when it's time to take the stage. The System-66 pickup and preamp electronics deliver the true sound of your guitar's spruce and rosewood tonewoods. The onboard preamp features a 3-band EQ with sweepable mids to help notch out unwanted feedback. It also boasts a fast and reliable tuner to keep your performances sounding great. And the battery compartment is easily accessed on the upper bout of the guitar for quick changes.

Yamaha FGX830C Acoustic-electric Guitar Features:
  • Value-packed acoustic-electric
  • Solid Sitka spruce top ages gracefully
  • Rosewood back and sides offer clarity and projection
  • System-66 electronics deliver great plugged-in tone
  • Single cutaway offers access to the higher frets
The Yamaha FGX830C packs premium tonewoods and great electronics for a great value.

Better value than a Martin. Awesome sound

Acquired one of these 3 months ago. I own 2 other FGs of various years, and have experience with Yamaha going back many years. I'm a working guy.... have a career in carpentry and construction in addition to music...and my instruments are tools...not museum pieces....so I need something that will get the job done economically and also with durability. I have played this new guy now almost daily for gigs, rehearsals and practice/fun. Rich, wonderful bass and midrange. Neck has a nice profile with a matte finish that's very easy to get around with. I use D'Addario .10 Guage phosphor bronze on my acoustics, and on this one it's a dream to play. Finish and Construction are fantastic. Yamaha builds all their acoustics in their own factory. Watch it and you'll see why Yamaha is the best value in guitars.

A Wonderfully Made Guitar with Fantastic Sound

Yamaha has decades of experience making quality mid range guitars. They are the best, period. While Taylor & Martin make great high end instruments, I would take a $500 Yamaha over a $500 Taylor / Martin any day. I purchased a FGX830C from my friends at Sweetwater and I am ecstatically happy. The solid Sitka Spruce top really rings and has fantastic natural harmonics that will get better over time. The crisp, bright sound from the spruce just sparkles. To compliment the solid spruce top, the rosewood sides & back are beautiful, and the scalloped bracing makes for a well made, wonderful sounding body. The Nato neck / rosewood fingerboard has a nice, thin, smooth feel with great action and playability. The neck and headstock binding, and soundhole inlay are nice aesthetic touches. The electronics reproduce the natural sound of the "unplugged" acoustic guitar very faithfully, and the "onboard" tuner is so convenient. Just a super guitar at a sensible price. But most importantly... this guitar is fun to play. If you're on the fence, I say get one... you will be more than happy you did.
