Forward-thinking design on an affordable guitar

Seagull spares no expense in the design and craftsmanship of their Entourage Folk QI acoustic-electric guitar. Innovations such as Seagull's select pressure-tested tops, the compound curved top design, and their proprietary Integrated Set Neck construction allow this guitar to rival much more expensive instruments in terms of tone, playability, and durability. It's this commitment to outfitting their instruments with powerful construction methods and features makes the Seagull Entourage Folk QI well worth an audition.

Unique compound-curve spruce top

Robert Godin, owner of Seagull Guitars, has never been satisfied with good enough. His tireless search for a better guitar has created quite a few innovations that are found in every Seagull guitar. For instance, the Entourage Folk QI's top is pressure tested for rigidity and stiffness to ensure maximum harmonic vibration. Its unique compound-curved construction adds structural integrity to the guitar and allows for thinner bracing. This method frees the spruce top to vibrate more freely delivering the most harmonically rich acoustic tone possible.

Innovative neck construction

Seagull has taken extra care to ensure that the Entourage Folk QI's neck offers and effortless playing experience. Their proprietary Integrated Set Neck design takes advantage of tennon and dovetail-syle designs to provide stable and consistent action that also reduces warping and twisting. Thanks to this integrated system, the Entourage Folk QI's neck pitch is perfectly set. This Seagull design assures optimized sound and playability with great consistency from guitar to guitar.

It is what I'd hoped it would be

Seagull Entourage Rustic Folk QIC ...hoisting the black flag to the dreadnought navies of the world... This is my everyday guitar. Had it about a month now. It arrived perfectly set up, good action, no buzz anywhere even when played fairly hard. I want a guitar with balanced tonality. I'm NOT a finger stylist, I'm a flat picker; but I do a lot of cross picking, lead frags over riff, and dynamic effects. About the size of a concert hall guitar, with a classical guitar shape. Learned to play on an OM style Ibanez lami-top (insert derisive exclamations and eyerolls here). I'm not "small in stature", but find dreadnoughts annoyingly awkward unless I'm standing with a strap. The sound is bright & sings hammers and pull-offs, accentuates A, D & G strings. I believe it ships with Godin standard light strings (probably D'addario made). But anyway, the bottom E is the easiest to hit hard when you want it. (I might experiment with balanced tension strings out of curiosity. Standard string sets seem to be made for dreadnoughts- low E-strings are typically tensioned about 20% less than the other wound strings. I read a post somewhere from a custom guitar builder saying that standard string sets give balanced impedance rather than balanced tension- in other words string set gauges were determined for ELECTRIC guitars.) It's a short scale length, 24.84" (vs long scale, 25.5"), the same as my electric, a Les Paul Studio. The neck is slightly wider (1.72") then the LP (1.695") and Ibanez, and it actually cleaned up my cross picking. This guitar is solid spruce top, laminate sides and back. I believe the Maritime series is Seagulls lowest cost all non-laminate. It has no pick guard. This is no longer an issue for me, but in my wild period I wore the sound hole down to the cross-ply on my Ibanez, even with a pick guard. This is a dark finished guitar! Almost black in dim light, Seagull website photos are done under bright light. Sweetwater photos are pretty accurate. The minimalist Seagull headstock in black really suits it. The built in tuner is more gratifying than I anticipated... Concerning Continent built guitars- Can't compare to a Martin because I don't own one, but pricewise the Canadians have some built in advantages: 1. Wood: it's what they do. 2. Health care and retirement are built into their tax/wage structure. 3. Built in a small guitar town (literally!) where, perhaps, $ is not the fundament? Verdict: A ravashing guitar, in sound and appearance. It might change the way play a bit if you've only played dreadnoughts. _______________________ Seagull Guitar Measurements: Folk Body Depth: 4.5" Upper Bout: 11.14" Waist: 9.46" Lower Bout: 14.76" Body Length: 19.6" Scale Length: 24.84" Nut Width: 1.72" Concert Hall Body Depth: 4.0" Upper Bout: 11.19" Waist: 8.92" Lower Bout: 14.93" Body Length: 19.375" Scale Length: 25.5" Nut Width: 1.72"

Really Liking this guitar!!!

The sound is big even though the guitar is smaller. It's also beautiful and lovely to play. I'm very happy
