Electrodyne is Back!

The Electrodyne 501 500 Series Mic Preamp fortifies your rack with great-sounding "Golden Era" technology. Electrodyne consoles juiced some of the hottest hits of the late '60s and early '70s at top studios like Capitol, Warners, Stax, Decca, and Motown. This 2-stage, discrete transistor, transformer-coupled preamp is built. The amp stages are individually optimized using selected original-spec components. The transformers are made by Electrodyne's original manufacturer to exacting factory specs. The onboard active DI circuit presents a nearly immeasurable load to finicky musical instrument outputs. Electrodyne preamp is excellent

This Preamp by Eletrodyne is fantastic. The 500 series format has a lot of choices. This pre has a lot of function on any task. Great for any source, the DI facility is powerful for keys, DI Bass, and beyond. The pre offered a really amazing sonic when paired with a dynamic mic in the studio. It immediately felt electric, thusly making the dynamic mic mirror the best qualities of a tube mic.

Wow! It IS possible to love inanimate objects. "Why didn't I try her out before", is all I could repeat in my head. The 501 killed on everything I stuck her on...Bass DI, GTR DI, OH's (Royer 122), VOX (SM7), SNR(57)...all lovely. Love my pair. Thanks Pete and Friends!!!

In my top three favorite preamps of all time

In my opinion, AMAZING piece of hardware. I rented one as a demo unit not too long ago and ever since, I haven't been able to stop thinking about how badly I want one. I recommend it to everybody, all the time, and up until now I've had to direct folks to the Pete's Place homepage. I called my Sweetwater rep and requested this last year and they told me that they didn't carry it......and low and behold, here it is, finally!!! My favorite thing about this preamp is the impedance button. So many preamps leave this feature off so this is a wonderful feature to have for dynamic mics. When I tested this doing some vocals with an SM7B, I pressed the impedance button (it being a dynamic mic and all) and the low end of my voice got heavier. It felt like I had added some weight in the low end by simply pressing a button, and I immediately knew that this thing was special. I love, love LOVE this preamp. It's so good. If I could afford an entire rack of these, I'd do it. I've used it on guitars and vocals and it just delivers for me (YMMV). Seriously, for under $1,000, no preamp that I've ever used has made me so satisfied with my results. I'm starting to sound like a salesman so I'll stop now. Yay to Sweetwater for carrying this underrated piece!
