The Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe is the best overall delay I've ever heard. While it can do some crazy effects, if you're like me and don't need poly-rhythyms, and other crazy effects, this pedal does the absolute best recreations of my favorite vintage pedals. I use mine for the Memory Man sounds, along with great tape delays like the Echoplex and Space Echo. Regardless of your need, the Echolution can do it and sound better than any other delay in the process.
The Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe delay system is a dream come true in my rig. As an analog enthusiast, I appreciate that the front and back end are both fully analog. But What really makes this pedal unique is the variable digital clock which allows me to subdivide the taps into different time divisions - including the golden ratio! I can very easily get some very cool polyrhythmic delay lines going. In my rig, the Echolution 2 is almost always doing something, whether it's adding a subtle sparkle or taking my tone to "parts unknown" while using the halo setting. An expression pedal with this is a must, I love being able to assign the expression pedal to control literally anything on this unit.
Simply the best delay pedal I've ever tried!!
With the Echolution 2 Deluxe, I can design my very own delays just as I imagined them! There's so much you can do and the filters just sound perfect! Another thing that blew my mind is that it can be updated for free, store your presets on your PC or Mac and can have full midi control (I use my iPad for that)
Beautiful Sound and Design
When it comes to delays, we are truly spoiled for choice right now. Some of the delays Iíve used in recent years include steals such as the MXR Carbon Copy and TC Electronic Flashback and heavy hitters such has the Eventide Time Factor, Strymon Timeline, Pigtronix Echolution, Diamond Memory Lane 2, and the Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. Of all of these, I find the Pigtronix Echolution 2 be the best for me. The Echolution 2 works equally well with cleans and overdrives, is easy to dial in and storing custom presets takes only a couple of clicks. The sound quality of this pedal is right up there with the best, but what I like most about it is the ease of use. Instead of fiddling, I am able to systematically build the delays I want with this pedalís unique system of buttons and LED banks. Applying various filters, taps and other delay features, such as ducking, feels like a natural process instead of a laborious system of menus. Itís worth noting that youíre not limited to one choice per LED bank. Best of all, the delays are as musical as any Iíve heard.
I've not even scratched the surface with this thing yet, but the presets sound excellent!!
Sounds Fantastic, but...
UI needs more work, difficult to store programs or even know what bank and preset you are on, footswitch interface gives access only to 4 programs in a bank and not an "up/down" paradigm as one would expect.
LFO sweep between stereo outputs does not seem to be implemented.
Software program basically just shows the functions on the face of the unit, when a "block flow" diagram for delay processes would make much more sense in a unit of this complexity.
Multiple technical issues with this pedal: Loud popping noises when changing filters or presets, possible damage to amplifier and/or amplifier speaker, adaptor prong came loose inside enclosure, rubber seal not glued properly, output jacks not connected properly causing amp hum, bank 5 presets vary greatly in volume output, some presets causing screeching feedback at loud volumes, no LED display so cannot easily set number of repeats, BPM tempo, LFO sync mode, Good sound, poor UI, lousy testing, inexcusable engineering flaws
