Don't know how I managed without one of these until now...

By Ken from Michigan on November 17, 2021 Music Background: Keyboardist, organist, composer, sound engineer (studio and live)

When I bought my Kross2 a few years back, I noted the collection of pedal controller ports on the back panel. At that time I purchased Korg's half damper pedal which has been amazing in its own right, but I figured someday I would add an expression pedal. Lately I have been doing more composition for short films, and producing mock-ups of the final score. Most of my VI's really shine when expression data is included in the performance. This pedal does that very well. Also I have more frequently needed to use my Kross2 as an alternate to the actual pipe organ I play weekly, and this pedal allows me to adjust my mod wheel with my foot, freeing both hands to play while employing an effect similar to the crescendo pedal of the organ.

I have read a couple of reviews in different places that have found this pedal to be extremely (i.e. "too") quick in response. While it does not have any slop in its range of motion (which makes the response feel immediate, and to some that could feel like too much), I have not found it's response curve to be unexpected or difficult to manage. It has very quickly become a regular part of my pedal lineup, as indispensable as the half damper pedal.

Not only Keyboard

Great pedal for guitar volume as well. I use it at church and it has a great sweep range.

Good Pedal!

The pedal is pretty good. Solid build. Works well. Has a great orange cord as well. I use it with my Korg KRONOS , and it works great. If you own a Korg keyboard, this is the pedal for you.

Great pedal for Korg gear

By Sweetwater Customer from CLEVELAND, OH on March 1, 2023 Music Background: Weekender

Got the Korg EXP-2 pedal to use with my Prologue 16. Works great, and fully compatible, as you would expect, for a unit that is made by Korg for use with its keyboards.

Prologue (and other synths) has lots of options for using the pedal. It can be used for expression, but the synth allows for lots of alternate settings when the pedal can control sweep or other effects. Range and sensitivity are good, providing lots of options for tweaking sound on the fly.

Others have commented on the amount of plastic in this pedal, but it has a similar build to expression pedals from Roland, Yamaha or Kurzweil that I have owned. It does have plastic and metal parts. But most all of them do. Unit it sturdy and stable and should last a while.

Works well with my X5 Korg

By Larry from Greenville South Carolina on March 27, 2016 Music Background: Use to be a pro. Now I play for myself.

Just what I wanted. Did not realize needed to be programmed into key board to work. Once done worked great. Motion on pedal is a little stiff.

By Mike bishop from Los Angeles on April 29, 2015 Music Background: Professional Musician/Music Teacher

I am quite pleased with my new Korg Expression pedal. It does double duty. Volume and Expression. I'm looking forward to using it alot. We'll see how long it holds ups.

Does what it should

I've had 2 of these for many years. Expression pedal for controlling volume of some synths. It works

Perfect hard to find replacement

By Sweetwater Customer on December 30, 2016

Perfect replacement pedal. (Very specific) It is about my 6th one over the years. They seem to wear out quickly and do not have easily accessible replacement parts.

My 2 cents worth

By Jack Meginniss on June 26, 2014

This pedal works just fine, but it is smaller than I had expected - and somewhat expensive if being used only as an expression pedal. An M-Audio expression pedal is about 30 bucks and approximately the same size and appears to work just fine with the Triton Extreme and D-50.
I assume that the input and additional output on the Korg EXP-2 is provided so that the pedal can be used as a traditional volume pedal. Perhaps that and the fact that the pedal is an authorized Korg pedal drives the price.
I haven't tried the pedal as a traditional volume pedal, but as an expression pedal, it functions as it should.

Don't Buy This Toy

By Sweetwater Customer on March 6, 2017

Inaccurate, non-adjustable, and wears out easily. You'd be better off with something like a Yamaha FC-7, which is built like a rock and is 100% compatible with this. Korg used to have a better quality expression pedal, but it's no longer available. Their loss.

have not figured out how to use yet

By Scott from phz AZ on August 7, 2014

So far no effect on my PA3X
I have not figured out how to use it I had hoped it would default as a master volume but no such luck

Requires additional stereo TRS cable for pedal-to-amp

By David Fales from Norwalk, CT on June 15, 2014 Music Background: semi-pro keyboardist, Kork Kross 61, Yamaha P105

There's no instruction sheet IN the box. Look for the instructions are printed ON the box itself.
It comes with a short stereo TRS cable to connect from pedal to keyboard included.
BUT you can't use the pedal until you have/buy another TRS *STEREO* cable, long enough to connect to your amp (not included, and hard to find locally.)
Advice to Korg: include instruction sheet in the box
Advise to Sweetwater: offer to sell the additional stereo cable at the time of purchase of the pedal.

Very poorly made

By Mark J. Gabel on April 14, 2020

It's all plastic but even worse it won't last. I'm on my third one. After a few months they all interrupted the sound making it next to impossible to play without rhythm or even with it sounds are are all interrupted.

After my third one I spoke to Korg and they sent me another without any questions - they didn't even ask me to send back the bad one... kinda says it all don't you think? They know it's a crappy product. I'm sure this new one will succumb as well.

You'd think that they would re-engineer or create a new one that works longer than a few months!

It broke in a couple months

By Sweetwater Customer on April 16, 2010

I thought it was metal when I bought it, but only the underside of the case is. It started to squeek after a week and then a couple months went by and it would cut out as mid-press. The thing is all plastic, so I should have known. Don't waste your money on plastic pedals, spend the money on all metal so you won't have to replace it.
