Kick up the heat with a pair of active EMG humbuckers

When the first Explorer rolled off the factory floor back it 1958, no one ever imagined sticking a pair of red-hot active humbuckers in one (heck, they hadn't even been invented yet). Loaded with a pair of EMG active humbuckers, this 1984 Explorer EX delivers the hard-hitting tone that practically defined modern metal. Back at the bridge, an EMG-81 ceramic humbucker gives you the high-output punch you need for hard riffing and driving rhythms. The Alnico-based EMG-85 at the neck, on the other hand, lays on liquid-lava lead tone with the kind of sustain you need to drive home distortion - even through extended passages. Put them together, and there's no stopping the kind of tone you'll get from your 1984 Explorer EX.

Solid mahogany body delivers lightweight feel and heavyweight tone

When it comes to solid rock tone, nothing beats the naturally warm and harmonically rich sound of the 1984 Explorer EX's slim mahogany body. But one of the things many people don't know about the Explorer body style in general is how comfortable it is to play. That's because it's balanced extraordinarily well. In other words, once you start rocking out with your Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX guitar, you'll neither want to nor have to put it down again for hours.

Heavy-duty hardware provides epic stability and performance

In addition to its solid mahogany body and hand-fitted mahogany neck, the 1984 Explorer EX gets a ton of stability from the choice hardware Epiphone gave it. On one end, you've got a LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and a stopbar tailpiece - a combo designed to give the 1984 Explorer EX incredible response and sustain. Shoot up to the neck and you'll discover a set of Grover tuners, which make tuning fast and stable. All together, you'll have a hard time finding an axe that gives you the same kind of performance as the 1984 Explorer EX for the money.

Epiphone 1984 Explorer EX Solidbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • A new take on a classic guitar style designed to give you the solid metal tone you crave
  • Stripped down and simple setup that's focused on performance and tone

Great guitar

This guitar is amazing. That's all there is to say. And if you want an old James hetfield replica, this is the way to go

good job epiphone

This guitar is definitely worth every penny I spent on it. I was hesitant to buy because I've played several epiphones that just didn't suit me for one reason or another, however this guitar has became my go to axe. Its light, has a great tone and is a quality instrument. I can honestly say its my favorite guitar I own or have owned. Metal is my choice of music and of course the emgs produce harmonics and that chunky rhythm and bright crisp lead tone most metal heads love. Also dealing with Sweetwater was a joy in itself, the guitar arrived promptly and just as described overall its an amazing instrument accompanied by amazing service.
