Classic style with loads of irresistible vintage appointments

At Sweetwater, we're highly impressed by the number of eye-catching vintage appointments that Epiphone packed into the Inspired by 1966 Century. A stunning, aged gloss finish blankets this archtop's hollow maple body, which is framed by ivory-colored single-layer binding. An elegant rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays tops this guitar's rounded C-shaped mahogany neck, which features a sloped dovewing headstock with historic gold Epiphone logo. A '60s-era "E" logo adorns a black-and-white layered pickguard. Another classic touch is the replica blue soundhole label that's visible through this guitar's upper F-hole.

P-90 Pro single-coil delivers accurate vintage tones

The Epiphone Inspired by 1966 Century is fitted with a P-90 Pro pickup. When crafting this pickup, Epiphone employed 18% nickel silver covers that were retooled with historically accurate bobbins, Elektrisola magnet wire, sand-cast Alnico V magnets, and pole shoes manufactured with properly spec'd alloy. This pickup is vintage right down to the last detail - it utilizes plated brass base plates like those used in '50s- and '60s-era Gibson P-90s.

Solid classic-styled hardware achieves great performance and playability

The Wilkinson Vintage 3-in-a-row machine heads on the Epiphone Inspired by 1966 Century feature plastic ivory buttons with a 14:1 tuning ratio. This archtop hollowbody's dual-action truss rod is embellished with a '60s-era black Bullet cover boasting a white vintage "E." A floating adjustable rosewood bridge and traditional trapeze-style tailpiece round out this stylish electric guitar.

Epiphone Inspired by 1966 Century Hollowbody Electric Guitar Features:
  • A reissue of a classic '60s-era hollowbody archtop

Great guitar

This is an amazing sounding guitar! I've recently really gotten into the looks and sounds of archtop guitars so I thought I would give this one a try. Like said, it's no Gibson, but it can really hold its own, especially for an Epiphone. This IS indeed an electric/acoustic guitar because it can be played electrically (P90) or acoustically using the f-holes, as many archtops are designed. I gave it a 4.5 because it's not a perfect guitar, but is spectacular based on most Epiphones.

Epiphone Inspired by 1966 Century

Wanted one of these as soon as I saw them announced. Paul Allen at Sweetwater hooked me up with a great one. The finish is a soft matte - feels great, looks cool, and would probably buff up nicely if you wanted a shine. Played OK out of the box - action was a little high and stiff for me. After a pro setup, the action is low and slinky - feels and plays fantastic. The P-90 is better than I expected: it's not exactly a vintage Gibson or a modern Lollar or Fralin, but it's way more detailed than the Epi/Gibson P-90s on my IBJL Casino. Acoustically, this guitar rings out like a deep body archtop. It's fun to play, provides some great tones, and is most definitely a keeper for me. For the money, this baby is an incredibly good value. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I'm afraid people would expect more bells and whistles for that kind of rating, and this is a dead simple guitar.
