Legendary tone from Memphis Historic Spec humbuckers

Tonal excellence is yours when you plug this Gibson Memphis ES Les Paul Custom into your favorite tube amplifier. Loaded with a pair of Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) alnico humbuckers, which are based on '50s-era pickups and designed to enhance the sound of semi-hollowbody guitars, you'll be able to dial in chiming country tones as easily as savagely distorted rock tones. The Alnico III neck pickup gives you classic hollowbody-style tones for everything from smooth jazz to dirty blues. Flip to the Alnico II bridge pickup, and you'll command sounds covering everything from bright and clean to raw and mean.

Beautiful instrument

I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to add my thoughts. I bought the demo model of this ES Les Paul Custom. Upon opening the package, which arrived very quickly, I could not tell if it was a demo or a new untouched guitar! Absolutely beautiful. The stunning black finish, multiply binding, gold hardware and that beautiful split diamond headstock make it visually outstanding. The set up of the guitar was spot on with great playability. It is amazingly light-hard to believe you are playing a Les Paul! The combination of the MHS pickups and semi-hollow body gives it a 1960's 335 with patented number pickups sound. But, that's sort of what it is, a smaller 335. The volume pots have a nice linear feel so as not to be blasting away until you turn them up a bit. Makes for more tonal options, clean to gritty roar. As stated earlier, I bought a demo with a huge discount, so am very satisfied. And, that this is an out of production guitar makes it a bit special, at least to me. Check out the video tour on YouTube of the Gibson Memphis factory. I found it interesting. I have purchased other gear from Sweetwater in the past and it has always been a good experience, and this was no different.

New thinking !

Very happy for this particular guitar. Easy to play, light weight and sounds very good. After a couple of weeks playing, the tuning is perfect :-) Mads

Black Pickguard

I LOVE MY Gibson Memphis ES LP Custom! Looks great, plays great, sounds great. My only complaint is that the neck is a bit thinker than I like but I am getting used to it. SO... I couldn't give the highest 5.0 rating but as close as I could to a perfect rating. BTW, the pick guard in the picture is covered with a white protective covering (I suspected it but didn't know for sure until I got the guitar) and the pick guard is actually a plastic laminate, black/white/black/white, very nice looking, mimicking the binding on the edge.

You would think

I purchased this Les Paul es custom expecting top quality. I have several other customs, standards, traditional, classic, Jr's, even a sweet studio all immaculate. Well, I have had 3 of these same models and still no luck. First one the fretboard is separating from the neck, had orange peal paint among other quality issues, second was almost perfect but was cut uneven on the fretboard leaving the binding touching nothing up to headstock, and 3rd one has just as many imperfections and issues that give the proof to why Sweetwater has had to send back a dozen others just like it this month! Don't buy this guitar.
