Gibson ES-335 Dot Plaintop - Vintage Sunburst Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Body and Top, Mahogany Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Hardshell Case - Vintage Sunburst

Few guitars can match the Gibson ES-335 for sheer star power. It's been seen in the hands of guitarists as diverse as Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, B. B. King and session legend, Larry Carlton (who has his own 335 Signature model). And of all the ES-335s Gibson has made, the one with the most magic is the 1959 Dot-Neck. With its arched top, f-holes and solid maple center block, the semi-hollow 335 has all the raw power of a solidbody, but with the refined elegance of a traditional Gibson archtop. The ES-335 is the perfect guitar for practically any musical setting. It's as perfect a fit for jazz and fusion as it is for blues, hard rock and beyond. Later models had block inlays, but the dot-neck will forever hold a special place in the hearts of most guitar players.

BEING A FENDER PLAYER FOR MANY YEARS I DECIDED TO TRY THE GIBSON ES-335 AND NOW IT'S MY MAIN GUITAR!!!

I returned mine

Bought one of these 2 days ago brand new from my local Gibson Dealer. Awesome tone! There is no better overall sounding guitar IMHO. The real deal. 57 Classics have tone to die for. Beautiful Red Laquer, like holding history in your hands. Took it home and plugged it in. I was amazed by the tone. Playability was a bit off so I took it to my local Pro Luthier. Seems it had a slight hump in the neck where it joined the body that would not allow the action to be set correctly. No problem so far, straighten the neck a bit, raise the bride and file the few high frets. He removed the truss rod cover and found that the truss rod was already tightened to the breaking point. he said he would not dare tighten it any tighter as it could snap. Relief was at .014 on the Bass side. This was obviously noticed at the factory when it was shipped out. The nut looked almost rounded off. So much for "pleking". Then he measured the relief on both sides of the neck. .007 more on the bass side. (.007 Treble-.014 bass) The neck was also twisted. The neck was also set at such a deep angle that the bridge had to be screwed almost flush with the body for correct height. I was pretty dismayed. If I didn't know better, I would think I had bought a cheap Countefiet. Add this to sloppy grover tuners that seemed like they were off of a cheap Epiphone, Poor quality neck binding, sloppy Gibson inlays on headstock and dots on the neck. I returned it to the dealer who was more than cooperative. I'm sure Sweetwater would have taken it back with no trouble had I bought it from them. But what an overpriced guitar. I had an Epiphone Sheraton with Real PAF Gibson 57's in it that I now wish I would have kept. I'm appaled that Gibson would let this guitar out the door. I'm Not saying that Sweetwater would let one like this pass, but this is not the first issue I have had with overall Gibson quality.
