A Handbuilt 335 with Vintage Looks and Tone

The legendary ES-335 is sweeter than ever in the 2016 Gibson Memphis edition! Advancements in vintage coloring, a sustain-enhancing historic tubeless truss rod, and PAF-evoking Burstbucker pickups make this 335 look, play, and feel more like an original '58 than ever. From soulful blues to smooth jazz to gritty rock, there's just no substitution for the vibrant sustain and all-night comfort of the 335's contoured maple body with feedback-fighting center block. A more stable redesigned neck with rolled binding gives the Gibson Memphis 335 a smoother feel, and an adjustable ABR-1 bridge with titanium saddles helps accommodate the roughest to the most delicate of playing styles. Experience the instrument that shaped the sound of rock 'n' roll: the Gibson Memphis ES-335.

Gibson Memphis ES-335 Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:
  • Handcrafted in the Gibson factory on Beale Street
  • Burstbucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone
Handcrafted in the Gibson factory on Beale Street

Nobody makes a semi-hollowbody guitar like Gibson. This superb 335 is handcrafted in Gibson's Memphis Custom Shop on Beale Street for quality craftsmanship you can count on, and from a city that knows how blues should sound. Carefully selected maple and poplar tonewoods give the Gibson Memphis 335 its signature bark, and a carefully calipered body cavity with Titebond 50 glue joints and a maple center block give it its controlled howl and haunting sustain.

Burstbucker pickups deliver vintage PAF tone

Handwound Burstbuckers give this ES-335 the tight low end, complex midrange, and sweet highs of Gibson's vintage PAF ("Patent Applied For") pickups with extra clarity and power. Historically mismatched rhythm and lead pickups give each position a unique flavor for chords and leads, while pairing the pickups together unlocks a sweetness that even Gibson purists will appreciate. For a vintage 335 experience without the price tag, Sweetwater guitarists recommend checking out the Gibson Memphis ES-335.

This is it, the only one you will ever need.

Been playing for 15+ years, have owned and own more than 10 guitars. I never thought I would use this as my main axe, but I cannot keep my hands off this thing. Sounds amazing for recording, nice and full, plays like a dream. I have not picked up my LP, Strat, Tele, any of em since I purchased this one.

Guitars i own - 1. Les Paul custom hollow body (BEFORE THEY RELEASED THEM built by HAND) with Bigsby tailpiece - folks listen I had a friend Dave who built me this guitar from the GROUND UP. The headstock says "Gibson Custom Shop" the inlays look like smoke or dragons throughout the fret board, it has all gold hardware with a bigsby tailpiece and its HOLLOW BODY BEFORE GIBSON RELEASED HOLLOW BODIES!!!!2. Telecaster (I DO NOT LIKE THESE please understand its just a matter of taste i know everyone loves tele's)3. American Deluxe Strat (no longer being made) (got from SWEETWATER)4. Les Paul 57 Reissue black beauty with bigsby tailpiece gold hardware three gold pickups (got this in 2007 cannot find em anywhere new) solid body5. PRS 30th anniversary 10 top 24 fret (REALLY NICE GOT IT FROM SWEETWATER)6. Gibson SG with Maestro Tailpiece (VERY RARE TO FIND A MAESTRO TAILPIECE ON AN SG)7. Les Paul Black Beauty HOLLOW BODY with Bigsby tailpiece gold hardware three gold pickups (VERY RARE)and some other ones as wellon a 57 Reissue Twin Tweed Fender Amp hand wired hand made in CA, 4 preamp tubes, 2 power tubes, 2 rectifier tubes ALL NOS. dual channel (normal, bright) treble, bass, presence the volume goes up to 12 (about 150 dB LOL) using two tube screamers (occasionally) wahzoo pedal, ernie ball volume pedal, compressor (ross comp based), boost, overdrive/distortion, digitech whammy pedal, and much more.and now this ES-335. Folks I cannot stress to you enough how integral this guitar is compared to all the other guitars I have listed above. OMG is all I can say. This guitar is for sure going to be the go-to guitar for all applications. I originally bought it because my favorite band "The Grateful Dead" rhythm guitarist Bob Weir LOVES Electric Spanish guitars from Gibson. I LOVE that sound. I really am speechless. Seriously if you want one butt kicking guitar GET THIS RIGHT NOW BEG BORROW OR STEAL (don't steal :) or do whatever you can to get this. I PROMISE you you will not regret it. No buyers' remorse here. And thanks to Chris Sanders my sales engineer for giving me great advice on this guitar. I love Sweetwater, I love my amp, pedals and this amazing guitar. (p.s. action is perfect, no dead frets, beautiful body, long resonance/sustain, great pickups, nice inlays, AND DOUBLE CUTAWAY!)

Fantastic instrument!!!!

As a very young man I had a Fender and amp from the same company. Though I have attempted many instruments since I have always wanted another "electric" sound. I circled around Gibson for several years but more recently, after long discussions with Carl at Sweetwater, and the folks at Gibson in Montana, I pulled the trigger on this ES-335. It was inspected and set up by the folks at Sweetwater, expedited shipping to accommodate my schedule, and I could not be more pleased. This is a beautiful instrument with great sound I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thanks to Carl at Sweetwater for a great deal on an awesome instrument.

I'm giving it five stars because I can't give it 20!I've only had guitars that cost 1/4 of this in the past. Some fenders, some gibsons, all pretty good. Then I got the es-355. Nothing that I have ever played comes close to the build and sound quality of this guitar! It was also great that the guitar came setup and play ready from Sweetwater!

Dream Guitar

I hemmed and hawed for a couple of years looking at remakes, copies, used originals and every other brand on the net, and some not! When I saw this particular ES 335 in faded Lightburst, I loved the color. Sweetwater, my sales rep Carl, is a great help and made the sale on my Sweetwater credit card with no interest program an irresistible combination. My Gibson arrived expedited Fed-Ex at my request in perfect condition. Plugged into my new Line 6 Firehawk 1500 amp the sound and tone was more than I could ask for. Congratulations to Gibson Memphis and the team at Sweetwater. They will be my "go to" for anything musical in the future. This guitar is a real "Dream Come True" for me.
