Outstanding!

There are no superlatives that can describe the tone I get from my now modded 83 MIJ. Be patient, have a Dremel ready, and you'll be blown away. Clean, it's very spatial and rich, and as I told my Sales Engineer, Wayne Davis (great job again mate!), punch in a little gain and the sound is like a Willy Wonka contraption that just belches a gooey brown glob of overdriven bliss. The tone rolloff pots are amazing. Fully recommend this mod to any bloke who wants a different Strat tone.

Great sound, after a complete rewire of unit

The Install in my 1978 CBS-era Strat took much longer than the EMG video indicated. Had to drill out the hole from the jack rout into the pickup cavity in order to pass the quick connectors through. After completing the install, none of the pickups worked. Eagerly plugged my guitar into an amp and got nothing but crackle. Removed the pickguard and examined the wiring between the pots, switch and pickups. At least 5 of the connections had been incorrectly made (C'mon, where is the Quality Control, EMG?). Good thing I can read schematics, otherwise I'd have returned these. How do the pickups sound? Amazing! Stone quiet, abundant tonal flexibility, and I can execute massive David Gilmour-ish string bends with zero loss of fidelity or balance. Highly recommend the kit.

EMG DG20 Pre-Wired

I've now owned three set of these.Perfect Stratocaster tone for any type of music. These pickups allow you to get the most out of your amplifier and effects. The same is true for your DAW and plugins. The pickups are practically noiseless, which makes DI work very easy. For live performances, the boost "tone" nobs are great for going from rhythm to lead without having to always go to your pedal board.

The Most Interesting Pickup Ever Played

First of all, these are not your average run of the mill pickup designed to do one thing well. These pickups represents a whole new (old) approach at shaping sound. At second glance you would be very satisfied with not using either Mid range boost or bass and treble boost tone knobs. I dial in some interesting tones without using either SPC Presence or EXG guitar expander controls. Just having the extra EMG boost the signal (with or without distortion) adds so much value compared to the stock American Fender Strat PU that it's worth the $300 entry price. Now when you add a little of either while you playing it's like being able to change your amp EQ settings on the fly which is the "priceless" part about owning these PU. And third, having owned just about every type of Strat pickups on the market, these are the most versatile. The key to using these pickup is to set you amp EQ and these Pickup SPC, EXG together as one unit. For example, I allow these pickup to control the Presence setting by turning off the Amp Presence setting and just using the SPC knob when I want Presence. It's quicker, easier to dial the right amount of Presence from the guitar SPC knob versus reaching for the Amp. You got to experiment more with these pickup than any other. They different but worth the investment in $$$ and time spent dialing the right tone.
