A Versatile and Distinctive Semi-hollowbody

The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe is one of the most versatile and distinctive semi-hollowbody guitars that we've seen at Sweetwater in awhile. You'll love the thick, resonant smoothness that you get from the Blueshawk Deluxe, that's balanced perfectly by a strong midrange and brilliant top end. A pair of phenomenal-sounding P-90 Pro single-coil pickups, plus a 6-position Rotary VariTone circuit only add to this remarkable semi-hollowbody's tonal flexibility. After a few minutes with the Blueshawk Deluxe's ultra-comfortable '60's SlimTaper neck, you'll find it difficult to put this semi-hollowbody guitar down. With the upper bout curve and cutaway of a Les Paul but with small f-holes like an archtop, the Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe is an impressive semi-hollowbody guitar!

Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-hollowbody Guitar at a Glance:
  • P-90 single-coils deliver gorgeous, vintage-tinged tone
  • VariTone control makes dialing in the perfect tone as simple as turning a knob
  • 1960s SlimTaper "D" neck profile provides comfortable playability
  • Epiphone - a brief history
P-90 single-coils deliver gorgeous, vintage-tinged tone

The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe semi-hollowbody electric guitar is fitted with two P-90 Pro pickups. With its biting treble and high output, the P-90 cleans up nicely when you roll back your guitar's volume pot. And when you hit your amp hard, the P-90 really wails. It's an amazingly versatile pickup (more so, arguably, than most humbuckers). On top of that, the Blueshawk Deluxe has a hum-canceling dummy coil mounted between its pickups, providing you with hum reduction when the neck or bridge pickups are used alone.

VariTone control makes dialing in the perfect tone as simple as turning a knob

Epiphone's VariTone circuitry is a truly unique beast, and it's part of what makes the Blueshawk Deluxe semi-hollowbody electric guitar such a fun and distinctive instrument to play. The VariTone control works by letting you reduce frequencies at set points within the BluesHawk Deluxe's overall frequency spectrum. As you crank the VariTone control, the filter shifts from higher to lower frequencies. Controls include volume and tone with an easy-access push/pull VariTone true bypass.

1960s SlimTaper "D" neck profile provides comfortable playability

Sweetwater guitarists - and indeed, players worldwide - appreciate Epiphone's 1960s SlimTaper "D" neck profile for its fast and smooth playability. Thinner than '50s-style necks, this neck profile stays out of the way of your fast lead playing, while still being substantial enough for comfortable rhythm playing.

Epiphone - a brief history

The spirit of innovation that drove Epiphone to push the boundaries of guitar design over 125 years ago can also be seen in those who chose to play Epiphone guitars. Visionaries such as George Van Epps, Howard Roberts, and Joe Pass made music history with their Epiphones, as did blues legend John Lee Hooker. The most recorded song ever written, "Yesterday," was recorded with Epiphone guitars the Beatles purchased in 1964. It is an incredible legacy that continues today with Noel Gallagher, Lenny Kravitz, and other artists who choose to make their music with Epiphone guitars.

Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe Semi-hollowbody Guitar Features:
  • Mahogany/maple semi-hollowbody design delivers resonant, balanced tone
  • P-90 single-coils deliver gorgeous, vintage-tinged tone
  • Dummy noise-canceling coil for noiseless single-coil performance
  • VariTone control gives you unprecedented sonic flexibility
  • 1960s SlimTaper "D" neck profile provides comfortable playability
  • 3-point adjustable, string-thru body bridge for amazing sustain
The Epiphone Blueshawk Deluxe is a versatile and distinctive semi-hollowbody electric guitar!

What a great guitar! Get it!

First of all, thanks once again to my pal, Nick Church, for getting me such an excellent deal on this guitar--Nick, you ALWAYS hook me up, and I really appreciate it! From the first time I read the reviews and specs on the Epiphone Blueshawk, my interest was immediate. I already own several Epiphones, but I knew I had get this model added to my collection. I couldn't be happier with my decision. The action on this thing is killer, the neck is long & wonderful, and the tones are extremely cool sounding on every Varitone/3-way toggle setting (I'm still experimenting with the Varitone...So far, I'm finding a wide variety of heavenly smooth tones that make this a very versatile guitar). When it's time for soloing, this thing sustains forever, and rocks, especially going into a Keeley Red Dirt pedal with a 20 watt Bugera tube amp plus a Fender Deluxe stereo combination. I'm not too sure what the dummy coil inside does, but whatever it is, it makes this unique, semi-hollow instrument sound way beyond sweet. I own some very nice guitars, but the Blueshawk is now my new favorite gigging guitar...it's well-designed and well-built...definitely one of Epiphone's best. If you're thinking about getting one of these Blueshawks, don't think twice--do it--you'll be glad you did!

Great Guitar

Epi Nighthawks are my go to guitars - I have 2 and like them, so I was naturally interested in the Blues Hawk. I arrived well set up and perfect condition. I like the P-90s which give me yet another range of tones separate and distinct from the Nighthawk, and the dummy pickup does a good job of killing the hum. Plenty of sustain and spank too. The varitone switch is handy too The one thing I had to get used to was the pickup selector switch - it has the same throw length as the 5 way switch in the Nighthawk, but is a 3 way switch. I had to learn to move it decisively or it could find a dead spot between positions. I am used to it no and it is not a problem. All in all great guitar and great value.

Blueshawk has a great range of tone

If you are looking for a nice versatile guitar, the Blueshawk wont disappoint you. Build- Very Solid, nice finish, clean electronics. It's nice to have single coils that don't hum thanks to it's hum cancelling mid dummy coil, but still have that nice clean tone that you get from single coils.Playability- Nice Action, the slim Taper D has a great feel to it.Looks- Gorgeous! The pics don't do it justice, and the pics in the gallery here are much better than the promo shot on the Epi website. I was really blown away by how much better this looks in person that it did from the first photos that were released on it.Setup- Perfect from the box from Sweetwater. I have never been disappointed in any guitar I have purchased from here. Even though I ordered this in May and just got it today (Sept 5th) I knew that the delay was from Epi, not Sweetwater, and they kept me apprised along the way and wanted to make sure I understood when it ordered that it wasn't released yet, but it was well worth the wait! Now that they are in stock, you shouldn't have any qualms about buying one of these!

Great Guitar

I love the small size, color and those P90's. Dennis, Great job as usual. I took off the strings it came with and put on a set of D'Addario Flat wound ECG23. awesome sound, I use the same strings on my Strat and Telly.
