Ernie Ball Cobalt guitar strings are made of a new alloy formulation that gives you higher output, better sound, and longer life. Cobalt strings' special iron/cobalt blend attracts the magnets in your pickups better than any other alloy. When you string up with Ernie Ball Cobalts, you'll immediately notice the incredible comfort these strings offer - silky and pliable under your fretting fingers; your pick will seem to glide over the strings, letting you execute fast passages effortlessly. And when you plug in, you'll get increased power, beefy yet defined lows, improved midrange focus, harmonics, and sustain, and crisp highs. Try a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt strings - you're gonna love 'em!

Typical Ernie quality

By O. Barrios on October 27, 2017

Typical Ernie ball quality. I love the cobalt series, but the actual string guages was just a tad bit heavy for my taste. I'm going to drop to a little lighter guages as in the beefy skinnies and go from there.

My go to set!

By Joseph Smith from Texas on April 2, 2019 Music Background: played bass for a single practice session, and have been playing guitar for years. rock and metal.

These strings are one of the most important parts of my sound other than my les paul, as I am tuned down to drop B, and with that much slack, I need something heavy that can take the abuse, but still be thin enough to bend/depress, and these strings do the trick.
Without this set, I'd most likely be paying twice as much for a brand that I don't trust nearly as much.
My only two complaints are that the 24 plain is a bit of a pain to get used to and can buzz every once in a while, and that the 12 tends to be quite brittle in most packages that I've found, so I recommend always having a few spare sets.

Great for anything played with a dirt box

By Frank Jones from Fort Worth, TX on July 28, 2016

Just slapped these strings on my Les Paul trad and they sound fantastic. I play with a standard D/Dropped C tuning and the clarity these strings provide are completely worth the price. 9th and 13th chords are well defined. If you're familiar with that nice dry growl of a Warwick bass, well, it kinda reminds me of that. I'm interested to see how they hold up. If you play rock/metal, chances are good that these will work for you. As long as they last a while, I will definitely buy these again.

MUST BUY!!!

By Malik Ore from Joplin, Missouri USA on November 6, 2013 Music Background: Guitarist for 6 years, drummer for 4 years, bassist for about 4

I went up to a music store in town and i decided to buy some cobalts cause i heard good things. There were right, i can guarantee you will get better output from these babies doesn't matter if it is power slinky or whatever you like, it is a whole lot better than regular nickel wound or stainless steel.

Solid strings!!

By Deven Jason from ND on January 24, 2019

I loved this set! I just had to stop using them because the 24 is plain which makes zero sense. It's uncomfortably larger than a 3rd should be and goes out of tune (typical of unwound 3rds)

Rusted Quickly

By A.J.S. from Cleveland, OH on October 4, 2017 Music Background: Guitarist, drummer, engineer, over a decade of experience

I bought these from Sweetwater along with my new guitar. Sweetwater no longer carries the not even slinky standard set, and only has it available in the cobalt or paradigm versions. I've always used the standard slinky strings with zero issues, but I needed this gauge so I decided to give the cobalts a shot. Big mistake. Ernie Ball claims these strings are engineered to last longer, sound better, and resist rust. After 1 week and being played twice these strings have a thick coat of brown and red rust. They are unusable. My guitars are all kept in a humidity controlled studio, and I've never had a problem with rust on standard (non cobalt or paradigm) slinky strings of any gauge. In fact, my other guitar was restrung with standard non cobalt slinky strings in a different gauge at the same time, and they still look and feel brand new. It's beyond me how Ernie Ball can make these claims about these strings, and charge double for them when in reality they sound no different but last less than half as long. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for, and simpler can be better.
