Let me Sound Off On Two Things
Having moved into a new church building we needed to upgrade the preachers microphone to one with a more cardioid pattern . The Countryman E6 Directional Earset Microphone fit seamlessly into our already existing Shure packs and we could not be more satisfied. After weeks of trying our old models we regret not making the change earlier. We have had no feedback from the mic, but plenty of positive feedback from people who noticed the difference --especially from the sound team.
The help and input from Jay and the team at Sweetwaters has been wonderful. So four stars for the mic, and four for Sweetwaters.
Nothing But Trouble
We've had nothing but issues with this mic. We originally thought,"hey, these other 'knock-off' mics don't sound that good, let's get the best and get a Countryman." So we sprung for a $460+ E6.
Within months we were having issues with distortion and poor sound quality. I thought maybe our speaker got too excited and hollered a little too loud and possibly overloaded the capsule. Note, we had it placed in proximity to the mouth as suggested by the manufacturer's instructions. I sent it in and Sweetwater sent it through to Countryman. Countryman claimed that we operated it without the "protective" capsule cover, however, we never operated the mic without the "directional hyper-cardioid" capsule. They said the earpiece had to be replaced for $175.
We got it back and it worked great for a few more months. Then, out of the blue, we started getting loud pops, clicks, and crackling from the mic. It was unusable...again. This time, the issue seems to be emanating from the connection between the earpiece and the cable. We've tried re-seating the connection, tried taping the connection for strain-relief, and even told the speaker to reduce head movement. None of this worked. So now the mic is being sent in for repair...again.
Sweetwater has provided exceptional customer service throughout all of this. However, I will never buy another Countryman headset mic again. I will also look elsewhere for direct boxes. Countryman has proven to me that they overcharge for a questionable quality product and remains silent on the customer service front (emails sent directly to them remain unanswered).
