A priceless addition to a project studio
I'm a guitar player/vocalist, not a drummer. When I write songs for my solo work, I use Superior Drummer 2.0. However, when I record songs with my band, I record my drummers kit. He has an amazing professional level custom kit and we use good microphones and good preamps (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20). Still, It's tough to capture amazing drum sounds in a living room. Drumagog saved the day. I'm actually hosting Superior Drummer inside of Drumagog (vst hosting is one of the features of the platinum version)for my kick and snare sounds and I'm using the Supersonic Samples add-on for tom sounds. I couldn't be happier. My mixes are now comparable to major studio productions and I couldn't have done it without Drumagog. Thank you Sweetwater for the awesome price at the right time (while I'm mixing my band's EP).
Don't Tell The Drummer
Quite often I am dissatisfied with drum performances and drum tones when tracking. No more. Using Drumagog I can morph the worst sounding kit into the most amazing sounding kit with a few mouse clicks. I can line things up to make everything sound tighter than a pair of leather pants. I DO NOT tell the drummer I did this - they would object out of some sort of misplaced pride over the sound of their kit - I just do it, and they always think "Wow, I am an amazing drummer, and my kit is fabulous".
Drumagog 5 Platinum
extremely helpful software for any musician. i couldn't be without it
definitely blown away
problem solver
bad micing? phase issues? poor drum tuning? problems solved. use this. you need it. you can even use third party samples.
Drumagog works great.
I get a pretty good drum recording using just mics and preamps but kicks and snares just never get the sound they need on their own. with drumagog I can quickly and easily replace an or reshape the sound of the kick or snare to a punchy sample in minutes.
Line up problems
Here's the problem. No matter if you put drumagog on a snare track that you created, or if you put it on a track created using drumagog, this same problem occurs. The new samples do not line up all the time. And a lot of times they are just slightly off which causes faze problems. Everytime I use this product I end up going through the entire song, and moving every single drum hit to line up the sample and the faze. This takes hours. It might be acceptable for the home recordist, but takes far too much time/money in a professional studio environment to move all of the samples. Especially on an entire kit. It seems like they should be able to line this up simpler. I have tried this plug-in in both Sonar and Cubase and have the same problems. I have tried every single alignment setting in the plug in. I have made sure all the lattice settings are correct. It's not an all the time issue, sometimes it's just a lot of the time issue. But you have to go through the entire 300 hit song to find the 50 or 60 hits that are off. They really need to tweak the alignment. It should be a cinch, especially on tracks that are actually recordings of their samples.
