I was shocked when I first played through this pedal, it really sounds more like an overdrive than distortion to me, and an outstanding overdrive at that. Especially for the price, this can't be beat. Very amp-like dynamics and surprisingly quiet for how much overdrive-distortion-crunch it's capable of. It won't go all the way to modern high gain, but gets to about 80's cranked JCM800 crunch. I like this pedal better than some $200-range overdrive-distortion pedals I own. Can't recommend highly enough

Rock and roll in a box

If you can't rock with this pedal, you should sell your guitar on ebay. Or craigslist. Nuff said.

    Excellent for grunge

very warm distortion excellent for grunge or even for a Hard rock.... it's so nice warm tone that I can use for Solo too

    Best Distortion I've Ever Owned

I agree completely with the 1st review. I run a Dunlop DC Brick to alleviate the battery hassle. Also, this pedal is better run in-line rather than thru an FX loop. Great well built pedal, perfect amount of distortion. Metal heads would most likely be disappointed.

Simply put, this thing rocks! It goes from a sweet touch of bluesy overdrive through 70's style rock tones to a 'modern rock' distrtion with a decent amount of gain (although not enough gain for modern metal sounds).
It's got a nice 'warm' sound to it and isn't as harsh as some other distortions. It won't muddy up your tone either, so you can get a lot of sustain and still have clarity in your sound.
The only problem is that you have to unscrew the bottom of the pedal to change the battery, but this pedal is worth the trouble and you can always use a 9volt power supply if you have one.
It's built tough and could take a beating on stage.
All in all it's a very versatile pedal that sounds awesome.

    This May Be...

This may be the droid you're looking for. If you're after a Tubescreamer type sound with more gain this will definitely suit your needs. Not a bad pedal by any stretch, just not quite what I was looking for. But for <$80 it's hard to pass up. Just don't expect anything other than a heavy overdrive

    Great OD/Distortion Pedal!

I put this at the front of my dirt section on my board and I absolutely love it! I use it as a clean-esque boost, a TS-9 style overdrive, and everything in between! Built like a tank like all MXR pedals are!
