Connections for all of your gear

Cambridge Audio loaded their DacMagic Plus digital-to-analog converter with the I/O you need to get the best possible sound from all of your favorite gear. In addition to both optical and coaxial S/PDIF, the DacMagic Plus gives you a direct USB input, so you can connect it straight to your computer. XLR and RCA outputs provide a spread of balanced and unbalanced output, and digital outputs lets you conveniently daisy chain into external recorders or other gear.

Adapted Time Filtering provides astonishing audio

The DacMagic Plus features Anagram Technologies ATF2 Adapted Time Filtering for top-quality D-to-A conversion. Adapted Time Filtering is an asynchronous 384kHz upsampling technology that actively counteracts compression and lets you get the most out of your audio, regardless of what bit depth and sample rate it was recorded at. Cambridge Audio also gave the DacMagic Plus a 32-bit DSP-based anti-jitter processor, so you get an extremely clear 3-dimensional sound.

Made from choice components

Cambridge Audio knows that a D-to-A converter is only as good as the sum of its parts. That's why they gave the DacMagic Plus Wolfson WM8740 24-bit conversion circuits arranged in a dual-differential configuration. This tried-and-true digital converter configuration is responsible for the amazing sound you'll get from the DacMagic Plus. One listen and you'll be blown away by what the DacMagic Plus can do for your sound.

Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus Digital-to-analog Converter Features:
  • Incredible digital-to-analog conversion for all of your digital gear
  • The perfect last step before your monitors
  • Twin Wolfson WM8740 24bit DACs used in dual differential configuration provide amazing conversion quality

Worked like a charm

My Apogee Mini DAC finally died after 10 years of excellent service. I am using a RME Raydat interface with the Mini DAC attached to the S/PDIF Out. I needed a D/A converter ASAP because I had a session the next evening. The people at Sweetwater threw in free overnight delivery. I set it up and it worked perfectly out of the box and was able to record that evening The sound is solid and the bass response is better than the Apogee. I am very pleased with this product and recommend it to everyone who needs a D/A converter

Makes A Difference!

Worked easily with my MacBook and using as DAC to listen to music for both enjoyment and critical listening in the office. HUGE difference when A/B with built in audio jack from the Mac and a Scarlet 6i6. Headphone amp has no problem driving a variety of headphones including HD600's. Filters are nice feature. Solid build.

Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus

I describe this DAC as a "double character DAC". It has the clarity and transparency like a passive preamp, and at the same time, having the massive dynamic and emotional midrange as an active preamp. I am a Quad ESL lover. This Magic Plus has given me a complete natural world of electrostatic sound. My gear is: First Sound Paramount pre=-amp. Graaf GM20 power amo. Quad ESL57 speaker
Music background: Hobbyist. specialized Quad ESL

Very Nice Product

I've been using an M-Audio Audiphile 192 PCI card (onboard DAC) for a few years now, and finally switched to an all-digital approach using an RME 9652 PCI card. This meant I finally had to switch to an outboard DAC. I just got my Dacmagic Plus from Sweetwater today, and hooked it up to the SPDIF output on the RME card. PROS - Very Nice looking, compact unit. You can lay it on it side or on its end, they even give you a nice rubber boot to hold it in that direction. - Good written instructions, easy to configure - Super quiet -- absolutely no comparison to my old PCI sound card, which to be fair had the DAC's inside the computer with all sorts of noise around, which you could easily hear if you cranked it up. With the DAC Magic, I think the only noise I'm hearing when I crank things up is coming from my mixing board and amplifiers. - Subjectively speaking, sound quality is outstanding. I did not do any objective measurements, and it was almost impossible to do an A/B test, but everything I heard was excellent. No evidence of phase, frequency response, stereo imaging or distortion issues at all. Just pure clean sound through my Genelecs. -The balanced audio outs are very hot, fully +20 dBu, which matches perfectly with line-ins on most better mixing boards. You can program the volume control to adjust the level if your downstream equipment can't handle this, or you can use the unbalnaced outputs. CONS - Wall wart power supply. I don't mind this actually, especially in this case because they have taken care to put a ferrite core on the incoming 12V line and there's absolutely no trace of a 60hz hum in the output. - no way to rack mount this unit. But I suppose thats true of most DACs these days. - note that this unit can only decode 2-channel PCM sound on any digital input. It does not know what to do with 3.1, 5.1, or 7.1. Simple stereo is all I need for what I'm doing so I'm happy. Overall, very, very pleased.

Sweetwater Advice

Aaron Tremain

The Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus is a great converter. As a longtime music listener and consumer, I’m always looking for ways to enhance my listening experience. Running the Dacmagic with even low resolution files, and files being streamed via Spotify, Pandora, etc., still yield some pretty impressive sound quality enhancements. This converter is a “must-have” for anyone who does their main music listening via their PC or Mac.

When I first heard about the Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus, I was a bit skeptical that this little box could really increase the quality of my home theater audio. But I have been blown away by the crisp clarity and increase in dynamic range that this powerhouse puts out. With its amazing upsampling and conversion, my home audio setup will never be the same again!
