    Great module with sound layering

    Yamaha's latest offering with VST and sound layer make this a solid buy for a hybrid or electronic set. The sound quality is great with numerous parameters for altering/adjusting each voice. Programming two voices per pad allows a much bigger sound and makes a stereo instrument field sound huge. I have been a Roland guy since 1999 and love Roland's dual bank sounds on their multipads, but having a sound module gives much more flexibility and higher quality samples. For the price, this is by far the best buy in the industry right now. Before I bought this , I read a review where one drummer said he liked this more than his Roland TD15, which is priced around $1000. Be prepared to use the manual because it is an advanced piece of equipment that can do A LOT of things.

    An excellent Drum module!! AAA+++

    After I install this module it left me totally amazed, the sound quality and expandability that yamaha implement in this new DTX 502 is just perfect.I totally recommend it, one hundred percent.

    Because Iím Happy!

    Having just upgraded from a Yamaha DTX Express IV to the Yamaha DTX502 drum trigger module.
    Swapping the two units was seamless and the differences in sound and playability are immediately noticeable and dramatically improved. Theyíre more realistic and more dynamic without any editing.
    The ergonomic layout, logical menus, back-lit buttons and front mounted digital volume controls really seal the deal and Iíll never look back.

    Very cool! Improved dtxpress iv style

    Used a dtxpress iv kit for fun and recording for many years, and this was a economical way to update the kit. When you turn it on for the first time, you can pick your kit, or no kit. My old dtxpress iv kit was a pre-programmed set in this new unit! Plug and play. It has a differet menu system than my dtxpress, but with a little help from the manual, learned everything is adjustable. Sounds are more complex, have improved depth and less digital white noise.

    One laughable thing is all the songs built in. You're in for a treat.

    Buy it!

    Excellent module for the right price

    Using this module only in my home studio, and as a replacement module for an Alesis kit that no longer plays nice with Windows 8.1. All the other drum hardware I am using is Alesis, all of which was plug and play compatible with this module except the HH pedal. The Yamaha requires a continuous stereo TRS cable, so I had to axe the Alesis pedal.

    Module is used mostly as a USB trigger for my DAW (Sonar) and so far it is working great (perhaps even flawlessly). Had a bit of a latency problem in the stand alone version of EZDrummer, tweaking it seemed to help, but I never got back to it since we use it in the DAW most of the time. The included sounds are high quality, and there is plenty of space to add your own (I would do this in the DAW but still a nice feature to have).

    Good sounds, solid performance, and lots of ins and outs and configuration options for the price.
