Fat and Crisp Tone
5-string bass are mostly meant to play for deep bass tones. But then when you want to do occasional slap bass solo, the nickel plated strings just don't cut it. And so I went to search for that perfect string that can be used for both finger style pop/rock and slap bass funk jazz. I have tried several brands of steel strings but they all lack that fat tone. Then I tried this "DR Fat Beams" and WOW! the tone is a robust fat bass with really nice crispness. And all this at flat EQ. This probably is THE BEST STEEL STRINGS out in the market. The string is built on a round core, so, it has long sustained tone and has less tension (softer) which is nice when doing occasional bending of strings. And with Marcus Miller putting his name and reputation alongside this type strings, you can't go wrong with this one.
