An Incredibly Responsive, Vintage-voiced Humbucker

The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary bridge pickup melds precise articulation with impressive output, delivering incredibly sweet tone and a beautiful blend of warmth and clarity. When we tested the PAF 36th Anniversary here at Sweetwater, we were stunned by how easily you can take this responsive pickup from clean to dirty with a subtle change in your pick attack. The PAF 36th Anniversary mimics the magnetic field of a 1959 Les Paul's humbuckers, allowing your strings to vibrate longer, while yielding amazing, single-coil-like definition. A 42-gauge custom-coated wire puts this pickup's frequency response right in the sweet spot. The DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary bridge pickup has all of the characteristics of the legendary humbuckers of yesteryear.

Better Than My Custombuckers!

I replaced my Gibson Custombuckers with these DiMarzio PAF 36th Anniversary Humbuckers and I couldn't be happier! My Les Paul still has that classic PAF sound but more refined, clearer, and with more harmonic content. Overall the guitar is far more pleasing and inspiring to play. This is the tone everyone has in their minds when we imagine and hear those legendary burst Les Paul guitars from the 50's and 60's.

Love the 36th Anniversary Pickups in Neck and Bridge

I'm not a pickup expert. but I've got a good ear for tone and these pickups eliver...in spades! I've lost count of the various pickups in my Les Pauls over the years. Some were good; some not so good. But when I went to put upgraded pickups in a Les Paul like guitar someone suggested the 36th Anniversary PAF's. I loved them and put them in my Les Paul Classic and my Les Paul Studio. IMO they are well balanced and can easily do 'chimey' / bell like tones up to and including overedrive snarl and bark! I can afford and have used Fralin PAF's (very good but pricey) various Gibson Offerings, and Seymour Duncan's humbuckers and, IMO- the Dimarzio are the ones that best them all.

I regularly get compliments from other experienced guitarists on my 'great tone', 'exquisite tone'. My playing isn't always mentioned but my tone is...LOL.

You DO have to learn to use the volume and tone knobs. After all- they go from 1 to 10 for a reason. Use the knobs and get the pickup heights right for YOUR guitar / amp / playing style and I'd be surprised if they didn't become a favorite of yours, too!

A very nice, slightly hotter PAF-type bridge pickup

This is my first Dimarzio humbucker and I'm quite pleased with the sound. A nicely balanced, slightly hotter PAF-like pickup at a reasonable price. I have an Eastman T386 semi-hollow that's very bright compared to the ES335-type sound I was after (clean and overdriven). The stock pickups aren't bad but aren't great. I've tried a variety of replacements, from SD, Sheptone, and Manlius. For the neck I've settled on a Pearly Gates neck, full, rich, and clear sounding in this guitar, but set quite low because it's so loud. Finding a versatile bridge PU has been more difficult - slightly hotter to match the volume of the PGn and warm up the bridge sound a bit, but still retaining a clear and open PAF-like sound. This 36th Anniversary bridge does all that very nicely. Initially I had it too close to the strings and the sound bordered on steely and harsh. But backing it down the sound opened up to a very nice sweet spot, great clean and matching volume with the PGn. The 36th also drives overdrive and distortion better than more-traditional PAF-types I've tried.
