A powerful audio player for permanent installation

If you play audio at your school, church, gym, or any other large facility, you know how important dependability and flexibility are. The Denon DN-501C surpasses all expectations, making it ideal for a permanently-installed media player. With support for many common media formats, you'll be ready to play back anything, whether it's on a CD, USB drive, or on your iOS device. And because the front-panel display is intuitive and easy to use, the DN-501C is user friendly for virtually everyone.

Pitch and tempo can be controlled remotely for convenience

There are a lot of different reasons you may need independent control over pitch and tempo. Aerobics instructors can adjust tempo to suit the workout goal, old recordings that are off-pitch due to mis-calibrated equipment can be re-tuned , and so on. The Denon DN-501C lets you adjust pitch up to +/- 16% in 0.1% increments, with separate control over tempo too. Best of all, you can use the Denon Professional Pitch Control App for remote control.

Flexible remote control options

Add a remote control (sold separately) to the DN-501C to maximize your audio control in your facility. The DN-501C can be controlled using a variety of remote control interfaces including an IR handset, Parallel GPIO, RS232C and Denon Professional's RC-F400S 'Hot Start' serial remote controller. If your installation project calls for maximum audio control at a distance from the equipment, call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer to find the best remote control option for your needs.

DN-501C

Pro means doing it right the first time. Denon Professional's 501C always makes an appearance on our spec sheet for 1RU CD players. The quality for the price is killer. User interface, IOS app and remote controls easy to use, RCA/XLR options, front USB and RS-232 data transmission.

Excellent D/A, Professional, but some minor quibbles

As for sound quality, it would rate a 5 because the DAC is every bit as good as my Cambridge Audio DacMagic, a highly-regarded DAC. CD functions are pretty normal and professionally rugged and functional interface on the panel. The USB audio media playing is just as excellent sounding, but: 1) they don't make it clear that you will have to have AC power to an external large USB HDD, you can't use a large portable HDD driven from the USB port's power. 2) the display screen is too small to navigate at anything less than maybe 6 feet away, depending on your eyesight. and 3) they should have added a USB port on the rear so when you hook up that AC-powered USB HDD the cord doesn't have to stick out the front of the panel. Those three factors knock off the point from what might have otherwise been a 4.5-5 star rating.

Okay...BUT...

I purchased two of these units for mobile use after a somewhat extensive search for the right media player to fit my needs. What really attracted me to these units was the high quality outputs, supposed reliability, ability to rip music from CD, and the nice overall display. Looks great on paper and in the photos! Sadly, one unit was disfunctional upon arrival and the second unit came down with the same problem a few days later - both a loading problem with the CD drive. Major thanks to Sweetwater for a hassle-free return of both units in exchange for two more! Both replacement units seem to be operating just fine, and as advertised, outstanding sound quality and so far no crashes, lockups, or output anomalies. So why only two stars? Not counting the issues with the first two units, I have several gripes about the firmware the unit runs. Most menu functions are not accessible during playback. While not terribly critical, even basic things like adjusting the output gain cannot be done while a file is playing (which is hard to do without any sound coming out of the unit). The other complaint that I have (and yes, this is a true complaint that I'm making with Denon) is that the photos of the unit depict false advertising. One of the photos in particular shows the unit with all backlit buttons. The unit in truth does no such thing. As a representative at Denon Tech Support happily informed me, in his own words, "The image is an edited image from Photoshop just used for promotion, not to show system functionality." While the four major buttons will occasionally light up along with the dial, the pleasing blue backlight seen in some of the images is false advertising at its finest. Certainly not something I'd expect to see so prominently featured in a product aimed at professionals... So yes, you will still need a rack light to operate this unit in the dark... Either way, at the end of the day it works (for now) and given a lack of other options, it'll do...
