I love the Hardware, Needs an App Update as soon as possible.

5 stars for the DM dock it self, but I am very disappointed with the app, I really hope Alesis make a update to the app as soon as possible.

JUST MY FIRST IMPRESSION- DRUM SOUNDS AMAZING!

OKAY WELL SO FAR, I CANNOT MATCH MY HARDWARE TRIGGERS TO THE SOFTWARE APP. IN SHORT, THIS IS A MAJOR HEADACHE. NOW LIKE MOST MEN, I BEING ONE OF THEM, SIMPLY HATE I READING MANUALS. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE I AM GOING TO BE FORCED TO READ A STUPID MANUAL EVEN THOUGH HALF THE TIME THEY DON'T TELL YOU SQUAT. THAT BEING SAID, I ALWAYS HAVE TECH SUPPORT WITH SWEETWATER. IF I CAN FIGURE THIS SUCKER OUT THAN IT WOULD MAKE MY OLD ALESIS TRIGGER I/O LOOK LIKE SOMETHING FROM THE STONE AGE. FURTHERMORE, THE CYMBALS, AND DRUMS WHETHER THEY BE KICKS, SNARES, RIDES, CRASHES, ETC., ARE FAR FAR FAR SUPERIOR THAN WELL SUPERIOR DRUMMER AND I HAVE ABOUT 4 EXPANSION KITS. I MEAN THE SOUND OF THESE DM 10 DOCK DRUMS ARE AMAZING I JUST CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO HECK TO GET IT INTO MY ALESIS/ROLAND PADS AND CYMBALS VIA THE TRS CABLE INTO THE TRIGGER I/O. SO PERHAPS THIS IS A PREMATURE REVIEW, AND THAT BEING SAID I BELIEVE THIS MAY TURN OUT TO BE ONE OF THOSE GAME CHANGERS AS IT WERE, BUT UNTIL I GET SOME DIRECTION AND NO NONSENSE, THEN THIS WILL BE A PIPEDREAM. BUT KEEP ON DREAMIN! AND YES YOU DO NOT EVER NEED TO BUY BFD2, SD, AD, ANY OF THAT SOFTWARE WITH THIS MODULE. YOU JUST DON'T YOU GET SUCH A HUGE SELECTION OF LIKE SNARES ALONE IT WOULD TAKE YOU HOURS JUST TO TEST THEM ALL OUT AND SUCH. THEREFORE I'D SAY THIS IS THE ANSWER TO THE DRUM SOFTWARE. IT VOIDS ALL DRUM SOFTWARE AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. ANYWAY LETS GET BACK TO GETTING THIS WORKING AND I BETTER GET THAT MANUAL OUT.
TILL THEN ROCK ON AND HAVE FUN!

Hardware Works Great, Needs an App Update

This is an interesting product. Its like combining the old Alesis I/O (trigger to MIDI unit) hardware with an Alesis iPad Dock. Its great to have the ability to set your thresholds and velocity curves for each trigger input, and easy to do using the iPad as a visual input device.

The latency is a little bothersome, but not too much once you get used to it. But its certainly not as fast in response as a dedicated analog drum box.

The companion free app, DM Touch, is where this product needs some work. I tested using version 1.01 so its still early I realize. Still, they could use more snare sounds. For example, there are no brushes, only sticks. The metronome needs to send MIDI clock out so you can sync with other apps such as bass synths. Last, the app needs to be able to keep sending audio using "background audio" so that it provides audio output even if another app needs to be brought to the foreground.

On the plus side for the app, the trigger editing is easy and effective, and the ability to drag and drop different kit pieces onto the drumkit is quick and easy.

So, 5 stars for the hardware dock itself, but only 2 for the iPad app that you need to make the whole system work. But, Alesis could fix any shortcomings with updates on the app store as needed, so hopefully that will be the case!

Alesis DM TOUCH turned into the Best software 5 Stars

CONGRATULATIONS ...i LOVE your DM APP and Akesis Dock .....BUT
trigger settings need changes following OUR many years expertise :
that's how WE changed Alesis D4 eprom into best Drum machine ever !
    1) Use double notes "head/rim" sounds from stereo (no matters : a single
trigger to rim/head NEEDS 2 Different "velocity sensitivity" settings to..
    2) Get THE Natural sound and SMOOTH expressivity by ....setting new
samples adress made a little late: its attack point go back from velocity
    3) more non linear velocity curves :1/2 and 4/2 for "head and rim"sound natural from "treshold":made even layers BOTH.Made odd switches head to rim midi note:playing 2 samples(some already tune-velocity switched!)
    4) A curve "Choke" MUST play the sound velocity 0 until ....about 5(?) of its real played velocity...NO need anymore of hand trigger for choke...just press the pad and use same exclusive number ( set at DM "crosstalk sent" turned USEFULL)
    5) hihat pedal settings the usual way: while pressed (add polarity choice!)
    6) yes...use "background app" but alread plays nice inserted IAA in Auria
    7) already some sounds have velocity switch tuning (as needed !)
BUT "send crosstalk" MUST be turned into an exclusive numbers choice "
receive crosstalk is useless: should LOG 3 curve does Not play until 5 of real velocity: DM already VERY adjustable at Velocity sensitivity" while some Toms crosstalk (rim velocity curved) helps to sound NATURAL...!
8)having 10 triggers : 4 percussion images slots got more usefull than
DM so many cymbals images !

Very little bang for 200 Bucks

Iíve been digital drumming using just about every known trigger device, pedal and drum module for over twenty years. I'm a little disappointed with the Alesis DM Dock not being capable of easily interfacing with some popular brands of Hi-Hats and Hi-Hat Control input.
I also found the DMDock and DMTouch software to be lacking a visual metronome a feature found on most entry level drum modules.
Already having a spare iPad made the DMDock intriguing and the multi-layered sound seemed to be okay. I might have been willing to find another Hi-Hat pedal, but the lack of features and non-compatibility were the deal breaker.
