    A dream come true...

For the longest time, the Gibson Firebird was my dream guitar...but I wasn't going to pay a Firebird price...
Now I have my Firebird, and it exceeds all expectations. Initially, I though the bigger neck was going to be a problem, having small hands and all, but once I got used to it, it was great...gives me a work out, and it is a very fast neck. The thing is, it is such a quality guitar, I felt I was playing an older, vintage instrument...it has that lived in feel. I know, weird. But it's true. Also one of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played, sitting or standing. For it's size, it's a super-light guitar. (Although, after playing my FB, picking up my Parker is almost like playing a mandolin) An amazing acheivement for an American company to sell such a fine guitar for such a fair price. Thanks, Sweetwater for you superb service. The candy is a nice touch!

Sweetwater AWESOME!!! Gibson QC NEEDS NEW PEOPLE!

Let me start by saying Sweetwater is a GREAT place to buy! Brent Leuthold was a big help and is very knowledgable about the products. My Firebird was ordered at 10 am yesterday and came TODAY at 2 pm.

As for Gibson!?!? I have been playing Gibson guitars for 40 plus years. I have 4 other Gibsons, but this Firebird and a Les Paul Jr. that I got 2 years ago both had quality problems. Not anything with the body or neck, just hardware.

The Jr. had loose tuners and the jack nut fell off when I went to plug in the FIRST time out of the box!!!!!

The Firebird had 2 loose tuners and the bridge pick-up was instaled backwards. (It leaned back toward the bridge and not level with the strings)

These problems where easily fixed with a good set-up and adjustments, BUT they never should have made it out of the Gibson plant in the first place!

The Firebird is a good value at this price point.

    Big Guitar Sound

I will start by thanking my sales Engineer Jim for how well he kept me informed of my order. I will also mention the fact that the Sweetwater 55-point must the real deal because the Gibson shipping box was opened and the guitar play great right out of the box!

Nice gig bag was provided, but I don't trust gig bags for set neck guitars!

I know that some people do not like the Satin/Faded finish, but I do and this particular guitar when played un-plugged has great acoustic properties in part due to the thin finish (Satin Red). The action is very nice and the fret ends were well dressed enough for there to be no drag, but there is still a slight amount of work that I know will need to be done once the guitar is older. The frets are almost perfectly leveled; I can detect a slight buzz on the higher strings near the nut, but I bet that can be eliminated by raising the action a teensie bit! Yes, the action is so low that the guitar almost plays itself, but I play slide so it will get raised.

In terms of tone, these pickups produce a very complex set of sounds depending on your approach. Hit it hard and they scream, play it gentle and they chime. There is less mud than I am used to from Gibson humbuckers and this is a good thing. The pickups balance well and there is a tonal difference between.

This is my first Firebird. It plays like butter and has a great big sounds with mucho sustain. Thank you Sweetwater!
