MXR CSP202 Custom Comp Compressor Pedal Reviews

    Perfect for me

This is exactly the sound I was looking for. My experience with compressors is limited, but I can say that this does exactly what I hoped it would do. Now I can play soft or hard and have dynamics in my playing without worrying about fading out or spiking too loud. Also adds a certain quality to my sound that I can't really describe, but I love it.

Tip: Take the back off and fiddle with the attack and trim knobs. I was losing a lot of low end through it before I tinkered with the trim control. Now it's perfect.

I did like another user did and drilled two holes in the back cover so I can leave it on and still adjust the internal controls.

If you hate noisy compressors, this thing is for you. Quiet as a mouse the way I use it.

The best secret MXR has to offer.

This very affordable compressor by MXR is a very well built ,tru-bypass pedal with quality, that comes from it's NOS CA3080 IC. I find it a very attractive pedal with it's white color, and 2 knobs, one for level and the other for sustain. There are 2 easy to adjust knobs, just under the back cover, near where the battery goes. I have always been a fan of the Wampler Ego Compressor, which has more control over it's sustain ,because it has 5 adjuster knobs.

    YES!!! Finally

The best pedal purchase this year. I expected it to be good, but not this good. First, it's quiet, even with overdrive. Second, the compression range is wide and deep. 12 o'clock on all settings is massive compressor squash. Very clean and transparent. Everything is adjustable. Looks like Mxr saved us a few bucks by putting the attack adjustment, and trim knobs inside, they have a wide range also. This is just a great comp pedal. Just as good as the vintage models.
FYI, I run this into a valveking micro tube amp, and play a variety of stratocasters with different pickups single and double coil. Running this pedal after other effects like phaser, and chorus really pronounces their voicings.

    Very nice compressor

I bought this compressor to add some sustain to tapped parts and lend a more studio quality sound to my home setup. It works fantastic for that- I'm easily able to get a great compressed solo tone at lower volume levels and without cooking my tubes. It is extremely transparent and does not color my distortion or clean tones at all. It does a great job of improving note definition with heavy distortion, and does a good job of evening out clean tones as well. In my opinion, this is the compressor to get if you already like your tone and just want to improve sound quality. I tested a Keeley 4 knob for awhile before deciding on the MXR because the sound quality is just as good for half the price. The only advantage to the Keeley is all 4 knobs are on top, while the MXR has two internal pots- that's the only reason I gave it 4.5 instead of a perfect score.
