Makes my clavinet come alive!

By Tony Mann from Seattle on March 29, 2019

I have a vintage Model C clavinet that would play radio stations at full volume if I hooked a Cry Baby to it. So on a rep's suggestion I thought I would try this pedal instead. It sounds amazing! Super clean and funky. I love the rocking motion, so fluid and natural. Totally cool!

May Make the Ideal "Adaptive" Design for the Disabled

By Craig from USA on February 1, 2019 Music Background: Guitar player

This may be considered an unusual, perhaps not even an actual review kind of review. I am going to, for now, call it a *2-B Review." As a paraplegic and founder of D.A.N.A. (Disable Artists of North America), a new and much-needed organization supporting disabled artists across all mediums, including: Music, Photography, Painting, Film/Video, etc., I am always looking for adaptive alternatives giving dialed artists access to tools and techniques needed to convey the messages their art is meant to share with the viewing, listening, touching public. While I have created an alternative to foot pedals, easily connected to a pedal which allows arm/elbow engagement, this seems like another alternative. I would like to see more pedals with this functionality for the musicians segment of our organization. If it would be possible to try a pedal out to decide if this is an optimal solution for pedal control, I think that would be outstanding. I may try to pick one up on the "cheap" via a used outlet. Keep your eyes and ears open and let me know if you see something that will work. I will get a review posted, asap, and will give the pedal away to a lucky member.

New advancements on an old idea

By 89HFzcr from West Richland on March 5, 2018 Music Background: Guitarist, Singer/Songwriter

This Wah works great,.. not sure why some reviewers balk at the new out of the box design?
Another reason to appreciate EHX as far as I'm concerned. If your really need it attached to a pedal board, get the cradle.. I had no problem with it walking around the floor, easy to calibrate, easy to use, bomb proof design, and no more dirty pots to worry about or changing sweep parameters. Oh and the sound is great, I actually like it better than my trusty GCB 95 really does have a good tone. Great work on improving an old design and truly making it better.

Very good pedal, with a few qualifications

By William from Florida on November 20, 2015 Music Background: long-time amateur

The possibility of not having noisy potentiometers drew me to this pedal originally. Now I have to be concerned about noisy cables and plugs because the whole pedal does move and noisy cables will make themselves heard. But the sound of the pedal itself is quite nice: good sweep, good response. There seems to be a tendency to have a bit of a volume boost when the device is activated, though that may just be the high end of the sweep slicing through like any wah.

The electro-harmonix Next Step Crying Tone Wah Effects Pedal

By Jon Sieberg from Chico, CA on November 3, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist, Semi-Pro

I have been using wah, Fuzz, and Volume pedals for 20 years on my bass rig. I have had custom cry baby's and even a Foxx wah/fuzz/volume *modded*. For the price I don't think you can beat this little guy. It has the cradle for pedal boards, and is light and easy to use. The bypass helps you, since unless you want to do swells you don't need a volume knob. (I use the one on my bass) The only downside is, you can turn it on by accident if you hit it trying to turn something else on your pedal board, and to change bypass and fuzz it is hard to see if you don't have a light source. I'm a big synthase sound guy, and this pedal has a lot of things it can do on its own, and with other pedals. Great pedal, save some money and get this one. Don't spend 200.00 up on something that will break or stop working if you are ruff on pedals.

Crying Tone Wah Pedal

Nice range of tone that blends well with my other effects sounds. Overdriven, it holds a nice even spectrum of high to low.

EH Wah

By Gary from Daytona Beach, Fl. on March 14, 2013 Music Background: Hobbyist/Semi Pro

I just got this delivered and am ecstatic in my money spent. I've been using wah wahs for 30 years. First Duncan Crybabys and then Vox. The Vox has been a great unit as far as the sound I wanted. Unfortunately, the pots always burn out and I have a half dozen useless units. I purchased an expensive boutique one used on eBay that did a lot more, but the sound wasn't right. I read about the EH unit, and was intrigued it has no moving parts and the logo lights when turned on. I wanted something as low tech as possible as well this time around. I plugged it in, followed the directions to calibrate and I'm playing through the best wah sound I've ever had. This is the "better mousetrap", a true 21st century innovation. For an old time player like myself who knows what he wants, this thing kills. If you have any doubt coming from a true wah wah if you will like this new design, leave your doubts at the door. Knowing I never have to replace it is nice to think about too. I'll be giving out the old ones for paper weights to loved ones at Christmas. Buy this!!!!!!!!! Now time to play "No Quarter".....

Electro-Harmonix Crying Tone Wah Effects Pedal

By Frank Francois from Fenton, MI USA on January 18, 2013 Music Background: Recording Engineer-Hobbyist

I've been playing music for a long time and this is one of the slickest ideas to come along. You rock the pedal forward for bypass or leave it lay flat to play. No click of a button and no noise. The sound is comparable to any wah pedal out there, and the lighted name is really a nice touch. It even comes with a battery. The construction is solid and I cant see how it could get damaged. For the price you get a lot. Sweetwater had this pedal at my door the next day after I placed my order and as always I can't thank them enough for taking care of all my musical needs as they will for you too. So if your looking for a great wah pedal you won't go wrong with the Harmonix.

What a Nice Surprise

By Ernie from LA, CA on December 21, 2012 Music Background: 45 years Musician

Very happy with this wah.
I have two issues with wahs - switches that do not properly engage or noise introduced. I have tried many wahs in the past 40 years.
This wah alleviates both issues.
Now, add to that the pedal has a nice range of sweep - i.e. it sounds great.
When you examine the workings of the pedal it is natural but by feel, it is not...It does take a second to get used to its operation.
When it sits flat and is engaged; that is the pedal all the way down, full treble.
A dip of your foot to push it just a bit passed flat and it is on or off. No 'ifs,' 'ands' or 'buts.'
It also plays well with other pedals - a chorus does not make it squeal.
The only caveat is transporting it on a pedal board. In that you have to get creative.

Crying is Good Tone, Baby

By Closet Bluesrocker from Tempe, AZ on September 21, 2012 Music Background: homey jammer, gear slut

I had a 535Q Crybaby that I hated - I could never get it under control, no matter where I placed it, it was extremely noisy and it obliterated my high end, which I thought wahs were supposed to accentuate-Enough about the one I didn't like. I LOVE this Crying Tone pedal-it does what I expected it to, feels very natural even though it is un-traditional in having no separate moving top. I have mine on the floor-not sure how you would use it on a board. It's completely silent when off, boosts treble significantly when left on and flat on the floor, which can be useful. I use mine after the OD and dirt but I tried it out front and it was also very good. I'm extremely satisfied.
