Killer Marshall JTM45 Tones!

The JHS Charlie Brown V4 channel drive pedal imbues your amp with the sound, feel, and the very soul of the legendary Marshall JTM45. With the Charlie Brown, it's child's play to coax tones out of your guitar amplifier that will make single-coils sing and humbuckers scream. When they designed the Charlie Brown, JHS went to great pains to replicate a full Marshall-style tone stack. When cranked in either direction, the Charlie Brown's tone controls act as cuts or boosts. At 12 o'clock, they're flat. When we ran the JHS Charlie Brown V4 channel drive pedal through its paces here at Sweetwater, we were able to conjure up warm cleans, natural bite, thick crunch, and high-gain overdrive.

Charlie Brown Rocks

I had been researching this pedal for quite a while before I took the plunge, and it completely met my expectations, and then some. I run a very humble rig; a Fender Stratocaster through a Fender Blues Jr with an assortment of pedals, and the Charlie Brown can really sing through it. I personally found the biggest factor to dialing in good tone lies in the mids control. It handles the classic mid-scoop extremely well and packs lots of punch when turned up. All three of the tone stacks work perfectly to help you dial in the sound you seek, and helps the pedal to adapt really well to any amp it is running through. The drive is very versatile. You can get a wide range, from subtle dirt to full-on classic rock. What I really like about it is that I can still tell I am playing a Fender Stratocaster even when the drive is cranked, which is important to me, as I love the Strat tone. I run three overdrives on my board and I am now using the Charlie Brown as my drive #2, between a Fulltone OCD and a JHS Angry Charlie. If all I had was this single overdrive, it could handle the workload very well. I highly recommend this pedal and I believe it is worth every penny. Charlie Brown has never been so cool!
Music background: Guitar player / Tone lover

I was never a big fan of what people called "Marshall" tone before. However, after initially trying this pedal, I'm really starting to hear why people like it. After using it for a few months now, I'm now using it as an "always on". It does subtle, preamp tone, all the way to fuzzy Clapton. There really isn't a bad setting that I've found yet. The three band EQ gives you everything you need to get a great sound in any amp. I usually stick to the edgy clean tone, but love the drive too!

Great Marshall Sound

I couldn't get a bad sound out of this thing. Great overdrive sounds all the way to light distortion! Basically a Swiss Army knife of Marshall tones.

Did not do much for me

I was really impressed with the build quality and sturdiness of this pedal. As you would expect from a jhs product there were no corners cut. But my pleasure stops there. I was really excited to try this out when it arrived and when I plugged it in I almost questioned if the pedal turned on at all. I am using it with a fender blues deluxe, which usually takes pedals very well. However the match up between these two was not favorable. I'm sure it will work great with some other amp combinations but for me it just was a dud.
