Pure Gold Tone Quality
So after reading, reviewing, reading some more and reviewing many video's, Youtube posting on which speakers to put into my Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue, I decided to go with the Gold. Now then, having read that speakers can take 60-80 hours of "break-in" time to really bring out the full tonal qualities of a speaker, I was not expecting much. I play rhythm electric at our non-denominational church, using both boutique and non boutiquen pedals as well. I'm mainly a Strat and Tele player though I do enjoy the Gibson Les Paul and some Epiphone's in the mix. That said, I decided to break in the speaker at practice the other night. WHOA is all I can tell you!!! Even our worship pastor wanted to take a look at the amp and commented on the great tone I got out of my amp. I know this is one of the more expensive speakers out ther, but I didn't want price to be my deciding factor and sacrafice tone quality. To each his own on what they feel is the best speaker as it is a personal tone preference each of us looks for. I can tell you that I do not feel the slightest bit cheated on what I got for my money. I love this speaker so much that I got another for my Blues Junior and one for my 68 Custom Princeton Reverb. Plan to get a pair for my Vibrolux as well. The only draw back I ran into when installing was that the original Jensen speaker required and the Fender amp box had "eight" mounting pins. This Gold requires and only has four mounting pin holes. I thought I would take the tolex off to remove the mounting screws from the from which is under the tolex. Glad I checked before removing the stapled and glue tacked tolex from the board as I would not have been able to remove from the top side anyway. Thus after contacting a amp repair friend, he suggested I pinch the mounting screws off. I chose to saw them off which was super easy. HINT: Be sure to first mark the pins you need so you don't saw the wrong ones off. In summary; I would encourage anyone wanting a replacement speaker to do your research, know what tone you seek, what you play and really give this Gold a listen. I would also encourage you to save up if necessary and not sacrafice buying this speaker to save a few dollars if it has the tone you are looking for.
