Bought this sub to to go along with my cms 65s and tighten up the bottom in my home studio, and it performs amazingly well! I feel like I have to re-mix everything I've recorded. I do a lot of keyboard playing with my Yamaha motif and thees8027e sound quality of instruments like the accordion cello bass and even piano have been mouthwatering! Shout out to my man Marcos Sanchez ext. (1331) who never steers me wrong!

    Better in a Bigger Room

My Sweetwater sales engineer recommended the Alpha 65 speakers plus the CMS sub for our church recording studio when our current mains weren't doing the job. Our control room is small (14'W X 10'D). The Alpha 65 monitors are great (see that review), the sub is a little overkill.
The CMS is too tall to fit under our desk, so it had to go to the side. It does a great job of filling out the lower 20-50 Hz missing in the Alpha 65. But I barely have to turn it on to do so.
I like the selectable frequency crossover. I can set it right where it needs to be. The mute switch is handy. I'm sure the foot pedal feature would be nice, but the owner's manual doesn't tell us which type of pedal to use or give options of pedals by others manufacturers that will work.
Nice sub, but if you have a small control room or project studio, it is too much.

    Super sub

I have a system of five speakers, three HR824s and 2 BM5as, which does pretty well. I added the Focal CMS sub to clear up the bass. I have the R & L speakers going through the sub, which pulls off the lowest frequencies.

The sub really gives a clear bass I've never heard in many recordings. It can be thankfully subtle as well as rocking, depending on the needs of the music. It does take a lot of messing around with it to get the settings right with the other speakers in the room. One really needs two people--one adjusting the knobs and the switches, and one listening in the sweet spot of the speak array.

The speaker is quite pricey and an extravagance, except for those who really need a clear bass.
