The TASCAM CG-2000 video sync/master clock generator utilizes a high-precision OCXO (oven-controlled crystal oscillator) to provide you with an ultra-stable clock signal for your digital audio/video system. Because it is not influenced by the temperature of the environment, the CG-2000's OCXO is able to generate a clock frequency precision of an unprecedented 0.01ppm and a word output frequency stability of ±0.005ppm or less per day. Lesser clocks utilize a TCXO (temperature-compensated crystal oscillator), which doesn't account for temperature at all, resulting in highly-frustrating synchronization errors. On top of that, an external input connector allows you to connect the CG-2000 to a rubidium or GPS clock for even more precision.

Jitter management circuit improves sonic performance

TASCAM's original jitter management circuit incorporates a high-performance video clock generator engineered with a FPGA (field programmable gate array) and PLL (phase-locked loop) circuit with a discrete filter. The result is that an ultra-stable clock signal is provided to the CG-2000 master clock generator's video and word clock outputs, providing you with an exceptionally stable system. Also, the CG-2000's glitch-free relocking circuit prevents the noise, dropouts, and skipping sounds that often plague inferior clocks.

A plethora of outputs to tackle systems of all shapes and sizes

Not only does the TASCAM CG-2000 video sync/master clock generator give you 12 word clock outputs and 4 video outputs, you also get 2 AES3/AES11 and 2 S/PDIF outputs, making the CG-2000 fit seamlessly into a broadcasting and post-production studio. On top of that, 2 of the CG-2000's word clock outputs also support x2Fs, x4Fs, and 256Fs output, making it easy for you to integrate the CG-2000 with Pro Tools and other DAW software.

The Best Word Clock, Period

I've been using the CG-2000 for a few weeks now, and I'm completely blown away by it. It's not the only low-jitter device available, but it beats them all as a seriously useful tool. Its analyze functions are the very best of the lot. All, and I do mean all, parameters are very clearly displayed - frequency, phase, signal levels, terminations, et cetera. Everything you could possibly want to know is shown on an alpha-numeric display that can easily be seen anywhere, from a brightly lit room to completely dark. If you're working with video, there are two sync inputs, and it will cleanly fail over to the second. If you lose both, it cleanly continues on its own, and cleanly resyncs when one is restored. Yes, I test this stuff to be sure I won't get whacked by something beyond my control, heh. It is twice the cost of the Big Ben (or, not much more were Apogee's extra cost SD video only sync card still available), but it actually does fail over properly on loss of external sync, locks to all video formats including tri-level (HD) sync, has twice as many outputs (twelve outputs mean no need for DAs), displays termination errors much more clearly (can't do that on the far ends of a DA), and has a built-in spare power supply (especially handy if you, like me, need redundancy for live recording). As well, TASCAM's support is definitely as good as it gets. I haven't needed it for the CG-2000, but they were extremely helpful in adding some features for me to their HS-8 CF recorder. So, I can say from my own first-hand experience they absolutely know their stuff, and care enough to get things done right. To sum up - it's not often I'm so happily surprised. Highly recommended.
