Fender CD-140S - Mahogany Reviews

4.5 stars based on 5 customer reviews

    Better than my last guitar

All I know is that this guitar sounds better than my seagull entourage. Good build quality. This is one nice looking guitar. The pictures you see online does not do it justice. It looks 10 times better in person.

Triple the price to find better

I auditioned 15 guitars one day. I run a lesson studio and a modest recording studio. My acoustics and my student's acoustics just weren't cutting it in the studio. I found a guy at Guitar Center who was just chillin playing some acoustics so I asked if he'd mind playing the same three chords on every guitar I handed him. We both had a blast. Anyhow, after auditioning all those guitars I couldn't find a guitar under 7-8 hundie that bested this one in any way that would matter on a track. So I got this. Everyone who plays it loves it. They all strum a chord and then hold it out and inspect it. You know what I'm talking about.

There is a natural finish version (the one I have) that I believe is slightly better but you can't get them any more apparently. They probably changed the letters and doubled the price. But some students of mine have this and it's stunning looking and if you didn't A/B it with mine you'd never know the difference.

Absolute best in this price range

Really fantastic guitar. Don't spend $300 or more when $200 gets you really rich sound.

    A Real Bargain...and that's an understatement!

I recently was doing an A/B comparison on acoustics in the 200-1000 price range. I played several Epiphones (really liked the Texan), a Taylor 114 and 214, a couple of Ibanez, a Breedlove and a Seagull and a couple of the Martin DX series guitars. The CD 140S was the least expensive and to my ears, the best sounding of all of them. It is an incredible guitar for playing open chords, with a very full, warm sound. I think that it's probably the nicest solid top, laminate back and sides guitar that I've played. I've found, though, that the sound can be somewhat inconsistent from guitar to guitar as I've tried others that sounded good but not as good as the one that I wound up buying. So, I would recommend trying before buying. That's the only reason that I gave it 4 and 1/2 stars instead of five.

    Amazing for the price...

I own the Tim Armstrong Hellcat which is basically the same body size. This guitar is every bit as warm and full bodied. Play ability is good right from the box. Great guitar.
