i purchased a pair of c480s with ck61 capsules to suppplement my SD condenser selection for chamber music recording. i already owned pairs of neumann km184s, schoeps cmc64s, AT4051s, royer r-121s, and had previously owned several varieties of less expensive mics such as rode nt5s, akg c391b's, c1000s, etc. i can truthfully say that the C480s are extremely well crafted, with high-end components, and solid build quality, and these mics can easily hold their own against the most expensive SD condenser mics made today, including DPA, schoeps, neumann, sennheiser, and josephson. while there are applications where i will use other mics from my collection, the C480s have become one of my first picks for all types of acoustic instrument recording in a studio setting, and they make an excellent main stereo pair in ORTF in a nice live setting. the C480s couple well with most of the high-end preamps on the market - i currently use millennia media HV3, which really brings out the best in the C480s. they are also among the favorite mics for the DAT-heads and tapers who i know.
